NBA Playoffs 2024: Semi Finals
(1) Denver Vs LA Lakers (5)

Game 1: Nuggets Take First Game

Denver came away with a 96-77 win over the Los Angeles Lakers in game 1. The Nuggets had 6 players in double digits, led by Taylor MacKenzie, who had 28 points. Stan Griffiths (11 rebounds) and Dennis Anderson scored 14 each, while Vince MacMahon was solid off the bench with 11. Borislav Perko (11 assists) and Axel Donnelly both contributed 10.

For the Lakers, the Big Three didn't really fire, but Jessie Bonner had a great night with 23 points. Theo Hadson had a below par night with 13, while Dakota Kane (12 points, 12 rebounds) and Otto Neumann (11) both had minor contributions.

With this win, the Nuggets have the early ascendency in the series.

Game 2: Nuggets Take Second Home Game

The Nuggets were too strong for the Lakers at home, winning 104-96 in game 2. Taylor MacKenzie had the hot hands once again, with 37 points. Stan Griffiths had a great game, with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Vince MacMahon was the spark Denver needed off the bench with 19, while Borislav Perko picked up a triple-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists.

After an indifferent first game, Theo Hadson stood up in this one, scoring 34. Jessie Bonner continued his fine form with 29. Steven MacMahon (20 points, 10 assists) and Dakota Kane (13 points, 13 rebounds) both had great nights statistically as well.

The Nuggets head into Los Angeles with a 2-0 series lead.

The Nuggets erased a 13 point deficit in the 4th quarter to win by 90-84 in Los Angeles. They were led by another outstanding performance by Taylor MacKenzie. This time, he scored 41 points. Vince MacMahon (22) was the only other double-digit scorer for the Nuggets, as Dennis Anderson and Stan Griffiths both recorded 8 points each.

It was another impressive display by Jessie Bonner, who scored 33. Steven MacMahon once again scored 20 points, while Archibald Sheehan had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

After coming into the 4th quarter losing by 71-61, the Nuggets out-scored the Lakers by 29-13 in the 4th. Denver is now 1 win away from winning a series against the Lakers for the first time.

The Nuggets completed the sweep, beating the Lakers 101-85 in game 4. Denver's hopes once again rested on Taylor MacKenzie's shoulders and he did not disappoint, as he dropped 49 on the night. Stan Griffiths made a meaningful contribution with 15 points and 8 rebounds, while Steven Hunt scored 12.

For the Lakers, it was a recurring theme, as Jessie Bonner top scored with 28. Theo Hadson had a better night, scoring 20, while Archibald Sheehan registered his second straight double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.

This series win is the first Denver have ever recorded against the Los Angeles Lakers.

With redemption being a keyword for the Nuggets in this campaign, this series could be described that way for the Warriors. In the 2022 playoffs, the Warriors met the Nuggets in the first round, where they were eventually swept by the Mile High City. While the memory of this triumph is overshadowed by the Nuggets failure against the Rockets that season, the Warriors will always remember.

Will the Warriors get their revenge and have a chance to win their first title since Wilt? Or will the Nuggets continue on their path of redemption?

Keys

Denver Nuggets

Taylor MacKenzie has emerged as the Nuggets MVP in the playoffs, averaging over 30. If he continues his hot form, it should be a relatively easy run to the NBA Finals.

Golden State Warriors

Johnny Williams is a fantastic scorer and they Warriors are an excellent rebounding team... but someone will need to contain T-Mac. This is where they'll rely on someone like Duncan Werner to annoy Taylor and deny him possessions where he wants them.

How do you find the progression system to be in this game (especially when there were still active players in the league)? Like what are Blake Griffin and DeMar DeRozan's overall ratings now?

And I play on starting a dynasty on 6 min quarters. What do you advise I use for the sim quarter length because I know it's a little screwy?

Congrats on the historic series win over the Lakers! Hopefully, any redemption on the Warriors' part can wait until another season; this is your year. (Y)

There is no better way to defeat a team for the first time in a playoff series than sweeping them. Considering it was the Lakers you swept, oh I enjoyed it very much. Looks like everyone took a bit of a backseat and let T-Mac handle the brooms in that series.

Progression only really affects the opposition teams. Melo's ratings went down a lot faster when he was traded than they were when he was playing for me (must be the Denver air). Blake and DMDR are both in the mid-60s at the moment.

And with the quarter length, it depends how you play. I had to make the sim minutes more than the ones I play because I play really up-tempo. 7 minutes played and 10 minutes simmed seems to be going ok. Only real problem is that I have a tendency to win a lot of 6-man awards, since bench players don't get a lot of sim love.

Thanks Andrew; being the team I hate the most, it was particularly sweet. And that's my exact sentiment for the Warriors too :)

I thought you might, you and I are vehement haters of those Bryant-bitches :P

T-Mac's been huge; definitely the MVP so far.

The lack of coach hiring/retiring/firing definitely needs to be fixed in the new EA release. It would add another dimension to the game, along with some realism.

And thanks... I love beating the Lakers

NBA Playoffs 2024: Conference Finals
(1) Denver Vs Golden State (2)

Game 1: Warriors Stun Nuggets

Image

The Warriors came away with an unlikely 101-87 over the Nuggets in game 1. They were led by Kerry Bird, who scored 25. Thomas Scott supported Bird nicely with 16, but it was Crawford Wilson who was the Performer of the Game. His 14 points, along with his dominance on the boards (13 rebounds) ensured that the Nuggets couldn't get any momentum. All-Star Johnny Williams also chipped in with 12 points.

The Nuggets were once again led by Taylor MacKenzie, who scored 25. Apart from him though, the Nuggets only had a series of minor contributors on the scoring end. Stan Griffiths was the next best with 14, while Dennis Anderson and DeMar DeRozan both scored 13 each. While Borislav Perko only scored 10 points, he had an incredible night, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out an incredible 21 assists.

Golden State beat Denver at their own game, as they out-ran the Nuggets in the Mile High City.

Game 2: The Taylor and Blake Show Annihilate Warriors

Image

In one of the most memorable playoff games of all time, the Denver Nuggets came back from their game 1 loss to win 109-65 in game 2. If the scoreline isn't something to behold, then the performances from both Taylor MacKenzie and Blake Griffin are. With both players seemingly in a contest to reach 50, they both fell short at 48. They were so dominant, that there were no other double-digit scorers for the Nuggets, with Stan Griffiths being the next best with 8 points and 8 rebounds.

The Warriors simply had no answer for what they were seeing. In fact, in total, their 3 double-digit scorers only totalled 46 points. Kerry Bird once again led their charge with 19. Thomas Scott (15) and Johnny Williams (12) were the other two contributors.

You could say that was a pretty good rearguard action from the Nuggets, after the disappointment of game 1.

Game 3: Nuggets Embarrass Warriors in Oakland

Image

The Nuggets managed to blowout the Warriors in game 3 to a tune of 111-83. While the encore performance was slightly less outrageous, Taylor (26 points) and Blake (22 points, 10 rebounds) led the Nuggets once again. This time around though, the Performer of the Game was Vince MacMahon, who came off the bench with 21 points and 10 assists. Stan Griffiths (17 points, 12 rebounds) registered his first double-double of the series, while Dennis Anderson contributed 12 points.

Even though Amos Brauer (27 points, 8 rebounds) and Thomas Scott (21 points, 10 assists) both performed well for the Warriors, they lacked the depth of scoring the Nuggets had, as Johnny Williams was the only other double-digit scorer, with 16 points.

If the rest of the series follows this trend, the Nuggets will be in the NBA Finals pretty soon.

Game 4: Denver One Away From Finals

Denver were able to win the second away game of the series, defeating the Warriors 98-88. Taylor MacKenzie was red hot once again, scoring 32. Blake Griffin continued his resurgence, scoring 20 off the bench, while Dennis Anderson (15) and Stan Griffiths (14) also played their part in this win.

Golden State had the same amount of double-digit scorers as Denver, but none of them to the same effect as Taylor MacKenzie. Amos Brauer and Thomas Scott led the way with 22 and 21 respectively. Johnny Williams continued his sub-par series with 14 points, while Duncan Werner chipped in with 11 off the bench.

The Nuggets are now just 1 win away from the Western Conference title.

Game 5: Denver Advance to NBA Finals

Image

The Denver Nuggets will compete for the NBA championship, after winning game 5 by 108-87. The two G's led the way, as Blake Griffin (32) and Stan Griffiths (30) both went for 30 or more. Taylor MacKenzie was one point shy of the mark, with 29, while Dennis Anderson continued his consistent form, with 10 points. Even though Borislav Perko only scored 2 on the night, he had a huge impact of the game, coming up with a patented "Perko double-double". He had 10 rebounds and 18 assists.

Once again, the Warriors had the same amount of double-digit scorers, but none to the magnitude of Denver. Johnny Williams and Thomas Scott both scored 18 each, while Crawford Wilson (14 points, 9 rebounds) and Kerry Bird (12) also had a hand in the scoring.

The Nuggets will meet the winner of the Nets-Pacers series, which New Jersey currently leads 3-1.

Denver Nuggets Vs New Jersey Nets

Image

If you go back through the early days of TNL, you'd find the third season NBA Finals matchup against the New Jersey Nets. 12 years later, we have ourselves a rematch.

Back in 2012, the Nuggets team powered by Ty Maximilian and Carmelo Anthony swept Amar'e Stoudemire and the New Jersey Nets. Even though both the teams are completely different now, you can bet that this series will be a little more personal because of the history.

Will the Nuggets break the hearts of Jay-Z and the Nets once again? Or will the Nets win their first post-ABA championship?

Denver Nuggets

The Nuggets success in the Western Conference Finals came off the backs of Taylor MacKenzie and Blake Griffin. Look for more of the same, as the dynamic two-punch will look to force the issue.

New Jersey Nets

Caleb Jackman and Nicholas Schneider are the two stars, but I'm looking closely at Dickey Hogan in this series. At 6'6, he's a very undersized power forward coming up against one of the best in the league.

Looks like Blake hasn't lost his legs (Y) By reading the comments it seems like this was an unlikely season for you to make the Finals? And is Perko a 3 point shooter? I love stretch fours who hit threes and get the assists like Diaw and Perko. Did Perko have an above average passer rating coming into the NBA or did the assists just come natural because I've seem you're racking up more than like 13 of them a game with him?

I'll admit I was a little nervous after game 1... I started to think "NO! NOT AGAIN!", but yeah... it all ended well :)

I think there was expectation for me to get there, but the previous season I simmed and the Nuggets were the worst in the West... so from that context, it's definitely a shock to have come this far.

The only thing really missing from Perko's game is a 3 point shot. He'd pretty much be the perfect player if he had that. In saying that though, he's reliable enough from mid-range to keep defenders honest. Assists kind of come easy to me with big guys because I've always had great three point shooters. When you have someone like J.R. Smith launching open threes off the kick-out pass, then you're probably going to get a lot of assists.

It's funny that you mention Boris Diaw, because in the shootaround menu just yesterday, I had a bit of a go with him. I love his game in NBA Live 10... if only I figured that out when I started the dynasty. If I ever get around to starting a new one, I'll have to find a way to acquire him... if he hasn't retired by then... this dynasty still has a lot of life yet

NBA Finals 2024: Denver Nuggets Vs New Jersey Nets

Game 1: Blake Nets 50 in Nuggets Win

Image

The Nuggets took ascendency straight away in the NBA Finals, winning game 1 by 112-87 against New Jersey. Blake Griffin's career revival continued, as he dominated the Nets with 50 points and 11 rebounds. Taylor took the back seat with Blake on fire, but he still managed to put up 20. Borislav Perko's triple-double performance would also be overshadowed. He had 12 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists, while Stan Griffiths also had a solid night with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

New Jersey had 5 double-digit scorers, led by Caleb Jackman with 26 points and 7 assists. Nicholas Schneider (18) and Conrad Henry (17) played handy supporting roles, while Dan Garcia and Dickey Hogan scored 10 each.

Despite the well rounded offensive performance by the Nets, they had absolutely no answer for Blake Griffin, who terrorised them all night.

Game 2: Nuggets Hold on

Image

After the blowout in the first game, the Denver Nuggets just held on against the Nets in game 2, winning 101-97. Blake Griffin (24 points, 8 rebounds) and Taylor MacKenzie (23) topped the Nuggets scoring efforts once again, but it was Borislav Perko's triple-double that landed him the Performer of the Game. He had 15 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists, in what was his 3rd straight triple-double of the playoffs. Dennis Anderson also contributed 15 points, while Stan Griffiths had a good all round night, with 10 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.

The Nets were able to rally towards the end, thanks to three players with 20+ points. Caleb Jackman once again led the way, with 28 points and 16 assists. Dickey Hogan also picked up a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Nicholas Schneider added 22 and Conrad Henry scored 10.

Denver almost blew a 15 point 4th quarter lead, but they were able to close the game out from the free throw line.

In game three, New Jersey were able to pick up their first win of the NBA Finals, outscoring the Nuggets 94-86. Caleb Jackman continued to be their standout player, with 28 points and 10 assists. Dickey Hogan and Nicholas Schneider both scored 17, while Conrad Henry had 12.

The Nuggets had 6 double-digit scorers on the night, but none of them had 20 or more. Denver's wingmen led the way, as Dennis Anderson and Taylor MacKenzie both scored 17 each. Blake Griffin added 15, while both Borislav Perko (15 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists) and Stan Griffiths (11 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists) registered triple-doubles. Vince MacMahon picked up 10 off the bench.

Despite some big individual numbers from the Nuggets, Caleb Jackman was the difference in this game. If he can continue to carry New Jersey, this series could go down to the wire.

Game 4: Nuggets One Away: Taylor Drops 50

The Denver Nuggets are one win away from their 8th championship, after beating the Nets 101-76. It was a huge night from Taylor MacKenzie, who had previously under-performed in game 3. He made up for it with an incredible 56 in this one. Borislav Perko's streak of triple-doubles was broken, but not by much, as he had 12 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Blake Griffin also had a minor contribution, with 12 points.

Dickey Hogan was the high-point man for the Nets. He almost had his own triple-double with 28 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Caleb Jackman was slightly down on form, but still contributed 23 points and 9 assists, while Nicholas Schneider picked up 15 points and 8 rebounds.

The Nuggets are now one win away from the NBA championship. The next game will be in New Jersey.

Game 5: Nuggets Are Back on Top!

Image

Denver became the 2024 NBA champions, as they finished off New Jersey in game 5. The final score was 105-71.

Stan Griffiths finished off his rookie campaign by being the best player in the Nuggets last game. He had 28 points and 11 rebounds. He led a field of 4 Nuggets players with over 20 points, which also included Taylor MacKenzie (23), Blake Griffin (22) and Borislav Perko (20 points, 13 rebounds, 8 assists).

Dickey Hogan (26) and Caleb Jackman (20 points, 8 assists) were once again the two best players for the Nets. But they had little support, as Nicholas Schneider (13) was the only other double-digit scorer.

After a couple of playoff failures and a cellar dweller season, the Nuggets are back on top of the NBA. While the Finals MVP trophy will only go to one player, there are at least 3 or 4 that could make a decent argument for it.

Blake And DeMar Call it Quits

After 15 seasons in the NBA, both Blake Griffin and DeMar DeRozan decided to retire after the Nuggets triumphant NBA Finals.

Blake started the 23-24 season without a team, after leaving the Milwaukee Bucks. The alleged decline of his game and being out of shape led teams to overlook the former Rookie standout. But after working out and getting back into shape, the Nuggets offered him a deal. While he had a slow start to his career in the Mile High City, he absolutely exploded in the playoffs, with his best effort being a 50 point game in the NBA Finals against the New Jersey Nets.

DeMar's story this season is practically the opposite of Blake's. After receiving a 2 year deal with the Nuggets (second year player option), DeRozan became the first player of the Nuggets to score 50 in a game in the 23-24 season. He was elevated to the starting lineup momentarily, but his form wasn't consistent enough to hold the spot.

Both Blake Griffin and DeMar DeRozan came out of the 2009 NBA Draft, with Blake picked at number 1 overall and DMDR at 9.

Blake Griffin spent his career with 4 teams, the Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies, Milwaukee Bucks and the Denver Nuggets.

DeMar DeRozan spent his with 3 teams, the Toronto Raptors, Detroit Pistons and the Denver Nuggets.

Stan Griffiths won a ring in his rookie season? How many #1 picks have done that in history I wonder.

Thanks Manimalia (awesome screen name btw ;) ). Blake was awesome in that campaign. It's a shame he had to retire.

That's a good question. I think Tim Duncan did it in his sophomore season, but I'm guessing you'd have to go back a number of years if that person does exist.

Andrew? Can you answer this one?

LeBron Zero: The Saga Ends

Haters rejoiced, while his fans wanted to be left alone, as LeBron James announced the end to his storied career. In LeBron's 21 seasons playing in the NBA, he won three MVP trophies and had three trips to the NBA Finals. But the biggest anomaly of his career is the amount of championships he won.

He won not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, not 6, not 7... but zero. A player whose talent bordered on superhuman will have the same asterisk beside his name that Karl Malone and Charles Barkley have. So where does he rate in the grand scheme of things? Despite his lack of rings, is he still one of the best to ever play the game? And the biggest question of all; will LeBron go back to having an ordinary life with ordinary problems?

Okay, I've have my fun now.

Random fact: I wanted to change LeBron's name to "LeBron B King" if I won the 2022 championship. Aside from not winning, I don't think the game would let me do that anyway.

Congratulations! Awesome to see you back on top after such a fantastic season. :) That was certainly an interesting Finals with Blake Griffin ehaving quite the last hurrah and more triple doubles from Perko. Griffiths was a little quiet early on in the series but it was nice to see him cap things off as the top performer in Game 5.

Magic Johnson is the only one to do it to date.

I take a week off the forums and you're the champions again!

Great work winning it all. Nicely done balancing minutes between three marquee PF's. The Griffiths era is off to a great start. It's also satisfying to see LeBron finish without a ring - even with a stint in Denver.

So, that's it? No 'real' players in the league left?

Great season, turning that miserable season into a championship. You did good by signing Blake, listening to your followers really pays off. Griffiths better not have a sophomore slump. (Y)

Nicely done on another championship. (Y) Blake Griffin and T-Mac just had outrageous scoring numbers, seems like they took care of business very easily.

LeBron retiring without a ring is pretty hilarious, especially when you consider the fact that he was in the league for more than two decades.
