Some impressive scoring performances amongst the November 5th games, led by Tony Parker's 55 points (22/36 shooting in addition to 7 rebounds and 10 assists for good measure) in the Spurs' overtime victory over the Timberwolves netting them their first win of the season. That's a new career high for Parker, his previous mark being 38 points against the Heat back in 2006 and a rare 50 point/10 assist game, no mean feat when you attempt 36 shots.
Amare Stoudemire stopped just shot of the 50 points mark with 49 on 17/21 shooting and 15/15 on free throws to go along with his 11 rebounds, 6 assists and a handful of blocks and steals for good measure. A ridiculous performance of video game proportions, it's not often someone goes off for 49 points that easily. It's great to see Amare performing at such a high level these past couple of years after a lot of people wrote him off when he had the microfracture surgery that put him out all but three games back in 2006.
ESPN Australia had the Bulls/Cavs game so I got to see LeBron James' 41, 9 and 6 game from start to finish. It looked like he'd caught a tough break in the first quarter when he rolled his ankle but he still played 35 minutes and was attacking the basket like a man possessed, finishing most of the time and drawing the contact more often than not. Most importantly he knocked down his free throws and had sixteen attempts, if he keeps playing the way he did tonight he's probably going to win the scoring championship again. If not for the rolled ankle and the Cavs' lead allowing him some extra rest, he would have hit the 50 point mark tonight.
Meanwhile, Carmelo Anthony expressed a desire to score 44 points in honour of Barack Obama's election as the 44th president of the United States. He didn't quite make that though, scoring 28 on 30 field goal attempts.
