"Curtis" or "Graduation" ?

Kanye West's Graduation is currently beating 50 Cent's Curtis, but imo, both albums are lackluster compared to their previous efforts imo. 50 Cent was already slipping with "The Massacre" and Curtis further cements that. None of the songs on that album stands out and makes me wanna keep it repeated on Winamp like half of the stuff on "Get Rich Or Die Tryin" did. Smart marketing ploy to ignite a "rivalry" to try to boost album sales. It's definitely working for Kanye ATM.

Ever since I heard Eminem's "Re-Up" which had that 50 track called "You Don't Know", I was hooked. I've overplayed that song more than Riding Dirty, and I'm STILL overplaying that song after a half year of listening to it. (If you're a fan of rap and haven't heard it yet, do yourself a favour and check it out). "You Don't Know" basically set my expectations for further 50 Cent stuff, namely "Curtis", and I'm definitely disappointed.

As for Kanye? Never was a fan of him, never will. He's crappy lyrically imo, songs are too soft for my tastes, and the only reason that he's getting a sales edge over 50 is because he has a broader appeal in the general public, whereas 50 Cent's target a certain demographic.

Thoughts?

BTW for Moderators and Admins, I tried setting a poll for this topic, but upon clicking "Add Option" for the poll, it took me to "Post a new topic" so see if you can straighten that out. Thanks

I tried to edit it but I had the same problem. This forum skin issue or whatever it is is starting to piss me off lol.

Anyway, I hate Kanye and 50 Cent is a joke but I thought Stronger was pretty awesome and I'm fairly sure it's better than anything 50 Cent would have on his album, so I will vote for Graduation.

Graduation is a much stronger album than Curtis, but the fact that it's outselling Curtis at the moment is way unexpected as Kanye's last two releases combined didn't outsell either of 50's previous two albums by their lonesome. Neither of these albums come close to sniffing either artists' first releases, unfortunately.

I love Kanye's new cd, I've probably listened to it 10+ times through in the car already. I'm not really a big fan of 50's new stuff, although I really haven't checked his cd out yet. I've just heard one or two of the songs on the radio and I can't say that I liked them that much.

Graduation wasn't very good, and I haven't listened to "Curtis" (And I newer will), but I just hope 50 Cent stands by his promise and stops making albums.

I now added the poll. You can probably edit it however you'd like now.
I'm not sure why the skin would affect that though. But we'll keep looking into it and hopefully get to the bottom of it..

Thanks for adding the poll Andreas. It's exactly how I would've made it, had I been able to make a poll. And btw, 50's promise of stopping his solo career if he does lose in sales to Kanye, was called off before the albums were released. 50's last album with Interscope called "Before I Self Destruct" is still coming out, 2008 I believe. Judging by the Massacre and Curtis, his last album is either going to be another Get Rich Or Die Tryin' level material, or just totally crap and 50 self destructs. I'd say the latter since he's confirmed he has already made 12 tracks for that album already.

I bought "Graduation" and downloaded "Curtis" and I think Kanye comes strong in this album, probably his weakest album but it is still a great album compared to other cd's this year. "Graduation" and "Finding Forever'' are my two favorite cd's of the year so far and I'm still looking foward to "The Cool" and the new Jay-Z and Nas albums coming out this year. Still have alot of albums I want to buy but I really love graduation, especially the track " I Wonder''. Curtis was garbage in my opinion.

Ugh, I can't believe I was actually excited for the 50 album. COMPLETE garbage, repetitive, doesn't even sound good. Graduation was solid, but it doesn't have any songs that I'll still be listening to 3 years from now.

The new Chamillionaire though...Ultimate Victory, that is a GREAT album. Everybody should get their hands on that.

I'm excited for the new Lil' Wayne and Jay-Z coming out later this year. And I'm REALLY excited for Dr. Dre's Detox, supposed to come out early next year.

Songs I liked:

from Curtis:

Man Down
I'll Still Kill (feat. Akon)
Follow My Lead (feat. Robin Thicke)
All Of Me (feat. Mary J. Blige)
Curtis 187
Smile (I'm Leavin)

from Graduation:

All besides Barry Bonds (feat. Lil Wayne) & Drunk And Hot Girls (feat. Mos Def). And album is kinda short, only 13 tracks.

Graduation> Curtis.

I am not planning to listen to "Curtis".

But "Graduation" is a "good" album, nothing more, which is just not enough in comparison to Kanyes last two albums.
He has a bit like the "producers problem" on this album, which means he is using the same loops and stuff or whatever you call it in different songs.
"Flashing Lights" (my personal highlight on the album next to "the glory"), "stronger", "I wonder" .. they just sound too similar. Kanye never had that problem ... I just know it from N.E.R.D. or Timbaland ... using the same "instruments" too often in different songs.

I think for fans of Kanye´s first two albums its better to get Common´s "Finding Forever" ...

Kanye´s beats on this album are so damn nice with some awesome soul in it, AND you get some nice lyrics and flows and messages by Common, which you dont get on the new Kanye album (I am a Kanye fan, but he aint a rapper imho)

overall i think graduation is a better album favourite songs being "i wonder" and "flashing lights" and *good morning*.

but i think 50's singles were better i mean imo ayo technology i found was hot with the tetris beat and all.And i get money was hot as hell too.

but the rest of his album isn't that great except maybe that song with robin thicke.
But i wouldn't say im disappointed.kinda expected it

I thought 50 cent had brain damage (probably does anyways) when I heard "Straight to the Bank". That song was just whack. Ayo Technology sounded way too nerdy for a so called "gangsta" that got shot 9 times. That song would be more fitting for a Weird Al parody. The only song that I actually enjoyed on that album was "I'll Still Kill" featuring Akon. Other than that, gone off my hard drive. Even though I DL'ed the album for free, I demand a refund.
