43-38 isn't bad at all. Good luck in this tough stretch.

It's not too bad, but bad for my standards. If the season ended right now, I wouldn't make the playoffs (2.5 off the lead in the division and 3 or 4 back of the wild card) and my goal is to win the World Series.

Week 14
Three game set with Milwaukee at home and three on the road at Pittsburgh. Played the first two and simmed the rest.

Games 25-30
Game 25 Intro
Typical game. Jennings was dominant through seven innings adn his counterpart Ritchie didn't do too poorly either.

Game Recap
Endy Chaves hits a solo home run in the second. 1-0 Brewers.

Wells ties the game up in the fourth with a RBI single. 1-1 tie.

With runnners on the corners in the fifth inning, Lugo hits an RBI double and puts runners on first and third for Romano. Romano drives them both in and it's 4-1 Astros.

Grades
Pitching: A
Solid pitching from Jennnings. Williamson with the hold and Gagne the save, his 19th.

Batting: B
Could do better. Held to just seven hits, a letdown from my usual double digit performance.

Player of the game
Jason Romano: 2-3, 2 RBI, R

Stats

Notable hitters
Romano: 2-3, 2 RBI, R
Wells: 2-4, RBI

Chavez: 1-3, HR, R, RBI

Pitching
Jennings: 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 8 K
Williamson: 1 IP, 2 K
Gagne: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 K

Ritchie: 5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, K
de los Santos: 3 IP, 1 H

Game 25 Result
Milwaukee 1, Houston 4

Game 26 Intro
Zambrano against Ruben Quevedo. The game's bug of not recording inside-the-park homers as home runs cost Jason Lane (it's really wierd, it only doesn't reconize it for human teams. A-Rod, who wasn't on my side, hit an inside-the-park and it counted.)

Game Recap
Zambrano started the game with fire, striking out the first four batters he faces. He cooled off after that, but still got 6 K's in three innings and ended up with 7 over five and a third innings.

No scoring though three innings, but in the fourth, Teixeira hits a RBI double to open the scoring. Next batter: Jason Lane. He hits a base hit to straightaway center field, but the centerfielder (Jason Conti) let it slip past. Lane, with decent speed (70) made it around the bases. In real scoring that should have been a single and an error charged to Conti, but...whatevr. Anyway, that was one of the moments of the game:
Image

Dan Wilson (apparently acquired with a trade with Seattle) hits a RBI double in the sixth to put the visitors on the board. 3-1 Astros.

Wells extends the lead with an RBI double with no outs in the sixth, and get driven in by sacrifice flies from Wilkerson and Teixeira.

In the seventh, with Romano on and reliever Danny Kolb pitching, Wells gets a fastball in the middle of the plate and...
Image
HOME RUN! 7-1 Astros.

Grades
Pitching: A
Great pitching by Zambrano and B.J. Ryan, who no-hit the Brewers in 3.2 innings to earn the save.

Batting: A
7 runs, double digit hits, and a long ball. Not too shabby.

Player of the Game
Vernon Wells: 3-4, 3 RBI, 3 R, HR

Stats

Notable hitters
Wells: 3-4, 3 RBI, 3 R, HR
Teixeira: 3-3, 2 RBI, R

I got a series win this week. Hope I can continue the trend.

All-Star break next week. This is sad. Last time I checked, the only player to even had a chance of going was Romano, who was 5th in voting among second baseman. Wells should get a late charge. He's on fire.

Week 15
Intro
Zambrano against Jimmy Haynes. Typical game.

Game Recap
In the second, Zambrano helps his own cause by driving in a run with a RBI single. Lugo helps him with a RBI double to put the Astros on top 2-0.

Lugo comes through again in the fourth, with a RBI single. The next batter, Romano, hits a 2 RBI triple and the Astros are on top 5-0.

Grades
Pitching: A+
Oh what, another shutout? Zambrano with 6 innings of shutout ball and Ramirez pitches perfectly in the last three innings.

Batting: B
Hoped for a bit more offense. Long ball mode was shut down today.

Player of the game
Carlos Zambrano: 6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K (he also got the game-winning RBI, or else it would've been Lugo)

Stats

Notable hitters
Lugo: 3-4, 2 RBI, R
Zambrano: 2-2, RBI, R

Blalock: 2-3

Pitchers
Zambrano : 6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K

Game 34 Intro
Kennedy against Paul Wilson. I forgot again to save the result screen, but I think I remember most of it.

Game Recap
In the first, Wells works a 3-1 count and usually, good things happen. But for Wilson, not so much. Wells goes yard off Wilson, his 20th, a two run shot and the Astros take the lead 2-0. And, of course, the moment of the game:
Image

Lugo adds a RBI double in the second and Teixeira with a RBI double in the third. 4-0 Astros.

Kennedy wasn't as invincible as I would've hope he was. He gave up a sac fly Josh Bard, and there goes the shutout bid. 4-1 Astros.

Wilkerson responds with a sac fly of his own in the fourth. 5-1 Astros.

In the sixth, Lugo takes reliever Amderson for a ride. A solo shot. 6-1 Astros.

After giving up a hit to pinch hitter Branyan, Ramirez comes in. Pitching for two days in a rows apparently doesn't suit him to much, as he gives up a 2-run shot to his first batter, Adam Dunn.

Grades
Pitching: B
Ramirez could have done without that mistake. But overall, soild effort by Kennedy to earn his 11th win.

Batting: A
7 runs. I'll take that anyday.

Player of the Game
Julio Lugo: 3-4, 2 RBI, 2 R, HR

Stats

Notable hitters
Lugo: 3-4, 2 RBI, 2 R, HR
Wells: 2-4, 2 RBI, R, HR

Griffey Jr : 4-4, R

Pitching
Kennedy, 7 IP, 6H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 K
Ramirez: 1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER
Gagne: 1 IP, 0 R

Wilson: 4 IP, 10 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 K
Anderson: 3 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER
Reitsma: 1 IP, 0 R

Game 34 Result

That's why I should've posted the stats. I was gonna post them anyway over the All-Star break.

Wells is batting around .290 with 20 HR, on pace for about 36-37 homers. He was injured for 10 days so it may be more...

Astros Franchise- MVP Baseball 2003 (All-Star Break! 51-43)

Postby JT_55 on Tue Jul 17, 2007 10:07 am

Make that .319 with 21 HR and 60+ RBI for Wells. Still didn't get into the All-Star Game. Only Gagne did.

Continuing Week 15
Three game set with Pirates at home. Game impact 8.

Games 35-37

Intro
One of the better games I played. Maybe I has something to do with me finally being able to get to the other team's bullpen. This is one of the more losided games, and Jennings' performance was patrly overshadowed by it.

Game Recap
Kip Wells never had the chance to get any rhythm in this game. In the bottom of the first, he pitches to Wilkerson and he...
Image
...hits it outta here! 3-run shot! 3-0 Astros.

The Pirates looked to inch ever so closer in this game when Kip Wells hits a RBI single to cut the lead down to two. That was all they would eventually get, as Jennings pitches a solid game and my first ever complete game non-shutout in this franchise. 3-1 Astros.

The injuries keep piling on...Romano made a diving stop on a ground ball but had to out of the game in the third.

Injury Report: Jason Romano (inflammed right elbow) out 9 days. Replaced by Placido Polanco.

Only 9 days. Also Polanco is good enough (if not better) to replace Romano.

No Romano? No problem. In the bottom half of the frame, Polanco gets hold of Wells' slider and drives it the other way for a solo home run! Wilkerson adds a sac fly later in the inning. 5-1 Astros.

Vernon Wells gets a RBI double in the fifth to extend the lead yet again.

In the seventh, with two runners on, Wells hits a line drive into the gap in left. The centerfielder misplays it a few times and Wells comes around to score. Another "inside the park home run", but the game doesn't score it that way. Teixeira gets a RBI single to make it 10-1 Astros.

Not finished yet. Southpaw Beimel comes onto the mound, and my lineup is suited for hitting lefties. Polanco's not done. He makes an impression by hitting another more run after replacing Romano. This time a two run shot. And also another moment of the game as the left fielder Giles watches this ball sail over his head and into the stands.
Image
Apparently Wells wasn't done either. He takes a hanging breaking ball from Beimel and goes yard off him. It was back-to-back and the Astros now lead 13-1 and they go on to win it by that score.

Grades
Pitching: A+++++++.......................+
Think it's my first time with double digit runs this season. Four homers, and a whopping 19 hits.

Batting: A-
Just that one little run that prevented Jennings from getting a clean sheet.

Player of the game (shared)
Vernon Wells: 5-5, HR, 4 R, 5 RBI (he hit better than a cycle: a home run, a triple, two doubles, and that contreversial inside the park homer that should have been his third double; of course, I could've told him to stay at first and get the cycle, meh)

Placido Polanco: 3-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 3 R

Stats

Notable hitters
Lugo: 3-5, 3 R
Wells: 5-5, HR, 4 R, 5 RBI
Wilkerson: 2-4, 2 R, 3 RBI
Blum: 2-4, R
Teixeira: 2-5, RBI
Lane: 2-4
Polanco: 3-4, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 3 R

Pitching
Jennings: 9 IP, 9 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 6 K

Wells: 4 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER, K
McKnight: 2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 K
Beimel: 2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER

Game 36 Result

Game 37 Intro
Last game before the All-Star break. And it was appaling. I don't think I was ever shut out in my entire MVP baseball career. I didn't care too much for it though; I was in a rush to do something else.

Game Recap
Reese had an RBI double off Santana.

This team rarely commits errors. Two in one inning may have cost me the game. Giles reached when Lugo misplayed a ground ball, a Lane dropped a fly ball from Vizcaino. That sets the table for Aramis Ramirez. A mistake from the other Ramirez, Horacio, led to a three-run shot, 4-0 Pittsburgh.

They get one more run somewhere in this game, but screw that.

Grades
Pitching: C-
5 runs. Good thing it was on a error or Ramirez's ERA would be blown up considerably.

Batting: F
I have no idea why a team who can score 4-5 runs off a guy like Oswalt can't get a single run against a very poor pitcher like Julian Taveras.

Game 37 Result
Pittsburgh 5, Houston 0

Is that German for goodbye or something like that?

EDIT: Just checked google translator. And it said Auf Wiedersehen. No wonder I couldn't get it the first time.

Better luck next year. This is just too big a hill for them to climb. Who do tyou think they will try to sell? Ensberg maybe, Lane, or Lidge? Please not Wheeler or Oswalt.

Let's just say, just about everyone in the Astros team has a chance of being sold, apart from the young ones and staples such as Roy and Lance. Lidge is staying. Hopefully Wheeler is too.

Anyway, not bad. Not too far from the wildcard spot either.

Wasn't there a rumor a few years ago about Oswalt, Ensberg, and Ausmus for Tejada? I saw that on ESPN. But I don't know how they allowed the guy to say it, cause that's a stupid trade. So yeah, almost no one is safe.

KIG1 wrote:Wow, Vernon Wells is having a very good year.

Wells didn't make it. The people that did (Vlady, Bonds, Sosa) all had at least 26 HR and 73 RBI's, so it's not like the people who made it are worse than him. The computer makes ridiculous stats sometimes; this year Sosa is on pace for 68 HR, and the power-lacking Furcal (less than 60 against both sides) is on pace for 22, certainly not the number you'd expect for a 90-50, 70-50 guy.

All-Star Game
Intro
The long-awaited All-Star game, everyone. An exhibition game between the American League All-Stars and the National League All-Stars in the home of the White Sox, Comiskey Park. Here are the starting lineups for each team:

National League
SS Rafael Furcal .292, 13 HR, 44 RBI
CF Vladimir Guerrero .311, 31 HR, 73 RBI
LF Barry Bonds* .307, 26 HR, 82 RBI
1B Jim Thome .295, 20 HR, 66 RBI
RF Sammy Sosa .332, 40 HR, 105 RBI
2B Jeff Kent .266, 18 HR, 42 RBI
DH Todd Helton .301, 24 HR, 59 RBI
3B Scott Rolen .318, 28 HR, 75 RBI
C Ivan Rodriguez .331, 20 HR, 58 RBI

American League
RF Ichiro .336, 11 HR, 28 RBI
LF Manny Ramirez .337, 22 HR, 66 RBI
1B Jason Giambi .373, 34 HR, 74 RBI
SS Alex Rodriguez .293, 24 HR, 65 RBI
CF Magglio Ordonez .341, 30 HR, 72 RBI
2B Alfonso Soriano .333, 29 HR, 86 RBI
3B Eric Chavez .294, 21 HR, 70 RBI
DH Jeff Bagwell .312, 30 HR, 68 RBI
C Jorge Posada .269, 16 HR, 55 RBI

For the American League, the Rocket will take the mound and the Big-Unit will get the nod for the National League.

Game Recap
The Rocket never did seem to take off in this game. The first pitch he throws to Furcal is hammered the other way for a lead-off double. Guerrero then hit a home run to give the NL the lead at 2-0. It didn't stop there. Four straight doubles by Bonds, Thome, Sosa, and Kent led to three more runs and the NL jumps to a 5-0 lead.

Johnson was pretty good in this start, but he might want to forget an at-bat against Soriano, who went yard off him in the bottom of the second. 5-1 NL.

In the fifth, Furcal hit into a fielder's choice and then subsequently stole a bag. Then it was Vlady's turn. He jumps right on top of a pitch from Kieth Foulke...
Image
home run! Next batter: Bonds*. He connects off Foulke and it's 8-1 NL.
Image

Rolen hits a solo in the sixth and Helton a solo in the eighth, both off Lance Carter. Manny could do nothing but walk back helplessly as Rolen's shot goes into the stands:
Image

Grades
Pitching: A
Only one run, but I'm not gonna get Johnson to pitch a CG in the All-Star game, so it doesn't matter. Combined for 15 K's.

Batting: A+
Double digit runs, plenty of homers.

Made a few trades two weeks before the deadline...see what you think of them. They aren't necessarily making my team better overall, but I'm trying to get better bats in hopes of boosting this offense until Kielty comes back about a month later.

Trade
To Atlanta: RP Jesus Sanchez
To Houston: RP Gil Meche

I have Sanchez in my inactive list, so I thought I would use him to get Meche and replace a horrible Towers. I also like pitchers with big curveballs, and Meche has just that. He has very long stamina for a reliever, so I'll put him in the rotation.

Trade
To Arizona: CF Brian L. Hunter
To Houston: RF David Dellucci

Although I lose a speedster in Hunter, I get back a decent hitter along with a right fielder to replace a slumping Lane. One drawback is that Dellucci is a lefty, so I can't use him to abuse the short porch in left.

Trade
To Texas: C Gregg Zaun
To Houston: C Chad Kreuter

Who the heck is Chad Keuter? I don't know either. Zaun is way higher rated than Kreuter, but he is batting horribly right now; no hits in ~15 at-bats. Kreuter is a lefty specialist, with a 79 rating for power vs/LHP. He has a decent hot zone, too. Four in the inner part of the plate, good for hammering a ball into the stands. It's sort of contreversial, as Ausmus is also a lefty specialist, but I look to use Kreuter more a a pinch-hitter.

Game 9 Intro
Carlos Zambrano goes up against Prior. The last time I faced Prior, I was shut out. Let's see if the trend will continue.

Game Recap
The streak would last just three innngs, but the Cubs score before that. Alou took Zambrano for a ride in the top of the fourth, Hill and Hubbard got RBI doubles (Hubbard actually had a 2 RBI double). 4-0 Cubs.

In the bottom of the inning, Teixeira a RBI double and two batters later, Ausmus drives him in with a base hit. 4-2 Cubs.

Martinez adds to the lead with a RBI double in the fifth. 5-2 Cubs.

The bizzare plays just keep on coming. In the sixth, Blum was on second, and Dellucci hits a single, and Blums tries to score. The throw from Alou came in way ahead of Blum, and he was caught in a hot box. While Blum was busy entertaining the catcher and the third baseman, Dellucci came around to third. The computer's stupid AI kept chasing Blum, but a human knows that just letting Blum back to third and get one of them out is the smart play. Instead, Blum somehow sneaks by the catcher's tag and scores. Whew! Ausmus' RBI double scores Dellucci and it's now 5-4 Cubs.

The lead would not hold. Wilkerson has a RBI double to tie the game in the seventh. 5-5 tie.

In the ninth, I bring in Gagne even though it's not a save situation. I wonder why real teams do that, bringing in their closer when they could use a normal reliever. Anyway, Martinez hits a 2 RBI double off Gagne and it's 7-5 Cubs.

Alfonseca was shaky, but he got the save.

Grades
Pitching: C+
I should use BJ more often instead of Gagne.

Batting: B
Certainly not enough to win. And if Blum didn't slip past Martinez, it would've been just three runs (Ausmus would not have had an at-bat in the sixth).

Player of the game
Ramon E. Martinez

Game 9 Result
Chicago 7, Houston 5
Image

Game 10 Short Recap
I was going to sim this game, but seeing that I was down 1-0 going into the seventh, I had to intervene. Ausmus gets a RBI single to tie the game in the seventh. Now to the tenth, runners on the corners and one out for Teixeira. The outfield is drawn in, and he hits a line drive right through it! Game over 2-1 Astros.

Game 10 Result
Chicago 1, Houston 2

Well, I added more than my normal does of pics. The doc didn't order it, but it won't hurt (apart from my computer's RAM).

Continuing Week 17 as well as Week 18

Game 11
Intro
Gil Meche's first (and last as it turned out) start in a Astros uniform. He is facing the southpaw C.C. Sabathia.

Game Recap
Slammin' Sammy slammed a RBI triple in the first. Was supposed to be a double, but Lane was running around and around the ball for a while. Argghh...visitors score first. 1-0 Cubs.

Sosa at it again. This time a RBI double and it's now the Cubs 2-0.

One explosive inning and I get it back. Ensberg drives Sabathia's fastball to left field...
Image
HOME RUN! Next batter is Teixeira. He get hold of one and hits it high and deep...going...going...gone! Back-to-back jacks. Teixeira trots to first as this ball carries all the way to the back of the wall:
Image
2-2 tie. The next two batters, Ausmus and Lane, both hit doubles and the Astros take the lead. Lane advances to thrd after Meche singles, and Lugo drives him in with a sac fly. 4-2 Astros.

Score would stay that way until the seventh, when Dellucci (PH for Lane) gets a single with the bases loaded to score two. Lugo with another sac fly and it's now Astros 7-2.

In the eighth, Dellucci hits a sac fly and once again, Lugo hits a sac fly. I wonder what the record for most sac flies are in a single game. He would've got four if not for Sosa gunning down Ausmus at the plater earlier. In comes reliever Will Cunnane. He retires Wells, but two batters later, it's Brad Wilkerson with a man on. He goes yard off Cunnane. A two run shot. 11-2 Astros.

Ramirez gave up a 2 RBI single to Alou in the ninth.

Grades
Pitching: B+
Not a bad start for Meche. Could've done without the 2 run sigle by Alou, though.

Batting: A+
11 runs, good enough. Three home runs, going back to the longball mode. The good news: acutally got 25 hits. The bad news: most of them were singles.

Game 16 was the trade deadline, and the Devil Rays offered me Wade Miller for Geoff Blum. I took it, but hesitantly.

Trade
To Tampa Bay: Geoff Blum
To Houston: Wade Miller

I don't know why I hesitated; this should be a no-brainer. A bench player for a future ace? Of course. So I bid farewell to my .430 hittter to get Miller back. As you should already know, Miller was a Astro back then. Bumped everyone in the rotation down a spot, and that put Meche on the trading block.

Trade
To Texas: Gil Meche
To Houston: Jason LaRue

I know it's kinda stupid trading away someone I just got. But I had no space for Meche and LaRue gives me righty power that both Ausmus and Kreuter are lacking. Also, that means I can get rid of Ausmus. He's batting very well, but him alone makes up for a sixth of the entire team salary.

Trade
To Tampa Bay: Brad Ausmus
To Houston: Geoff Blum

Ahhh...the circle of life. I didn't intentionally rip the computer off in any of those trades (except for the Miller one; but that not my fault the computer offered me that) as Ausmus is just a little bit lower that Blum and LaRue is actually lower than Meche. So I got my .430 guy back, got a starting rotation upgrade, and adressed the issue of hitting righties. I'd say this was a succesful trade deadline, don't you think?

End of Week 18 (and July)

All right, I was going to pause this until August 1, but I'll just sneak in one more update before stopping. No images this time.

Week 19
Three game sets with the Mets and Expos. Both at home.

Game 18
Intro
Two lefties on the mound today. Kennedy against veteran Al Leiter. Not expecting much of this game as the last time I faced Leiter with a different team, I got held to only 1 run: Bagwell's homer. And that was a rigged lineup, too. Wells, Encarnacion, Pujols, Spivey, Woodward, Bagwell, Aramis Ramirez, and Ausmus. If I only get one run with that lineup, I'm expecting negative from this one.

Game Recap
My theory didn't last three innings. Wells chalks up another RBI for himself with a double and put runners on second and third for Polanco. And I was thinking: what makes me think Polanco will comes through when the likes of Pujols and Spivey didn't? Well, I don't know the answer, but I do know Leiter hanged a cutter up in the zone...

See ya! Home run for Polanco. 4-0 Astros.

Lane's RBI single in the fourth extends the lead to 5-0.

Longball mode not done yet. In the fifth, Lugo goes yard off Leiter on another cutter. A solo shot. Same inning, Placido Polanco does it again. Hid second homer of the day. 7-0 Astros.

Dellucci's sac fly makes it 8-0 in the sixth.

In the seventh, Wilkerson and LaRue's RBI base hits gets the score into the double digits. 10-0 Astros.

One more run. Wells RBI double in the eight, thankfully (for the other team pitchers) caps of the scoring. 11-0 Astros. Oh, and Kennedy with another complete game shutout. Almost forgot while the massacre was going on.

Grades
Pitching: A+
CG, ShO. The only thing that would beat it is a no-no, but that's too hard.

Batting: A
Again, double digits. Three home runs but none of them from the usual people.

Player of the game
Placido Polanco: 3-5, 2 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI

Stats

Notable hitters
Wells: 3-5, 2 R, 2 RBI
Polanco: 3-5, 2 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI

Young: 4-4

Leiter: 5 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 1 K
Roberts: 2.2 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 K

FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I erased my entire franchise when I accidently overwritten it with another one. Now I'll restart by simming to the point where I left off. Do you know a way of retriving a file after it's erased?

Can you system restore or something? I'm not very technical in terms of PCs.

Neither am I. I don't even know how to system restore. I clicked the tab thing in the system pop-up in control panel and there wasn't a button that said "System Restore". It just said something about hard drive space and whether to turn it off or something. I'm gonna post this and see if anyone knows.
