hey cocobe how come i have exact same computer as
your except for the graphic card and you run live 2003
max 1280 and i only can run it smooth in medium 1024*16 setting?
i have exact same computer as your except the video card
which is old radeon 7200 32mb
is graphic card that big of a deal? it effects that much in your game
settings?
cause i have atholon 1800+ xp
516 ddr

Hmmm..I don't know. If anything, I ordered it from Micron PC. Not sure if they tweaked it or what, all I know is when I was ordering it, I made sure that it was a gaming cpu first and everything else was secondary in my book :wink:

I should be fine. NBA Live 2003 runs at about 35 fps... with player detail on maximum, environment on high, lighting on high, shadows on low, reflections off and crowd off. Resolution at: 1024x700x32. So i should be okay. i plan to buy more RAM eventually too. so that will make a huge difference.

It wont be great, but it will be playable i can assure that.

Sure..but it'll be choppy. Don't expect >30fps. You should double your RAM and upgrade your graphics card.

i play nhl 2002. u recon i could play nba 2003. i have 2 drives. on 3 gig the other 1.6, 50x cd drive. intel inside? i dunno what it all means 160 ram
is it enough to run nba 2003 not 2004 ill get that on console

I'm getting a new monitor... My current monitor is busted already. Still works kind of, but it's got one foot in the grave already...

Don't know about other upgrades... Might make some if the game doesn't play well.

Bredrin : i changed my mind..i'll keep the Ti 4200 :proud:

I dont really have the money to upgrade my video card now..but if i had to..i'd go ATI 9800 +. Nvidia has really fallen off...their cards aren't worth getting.

Instead i think i'll upgrade my ram to about 1 gigabyte (will cost like $90). That should give me an extra 5 fps with side band addressing.

However, the thing about the nba live series is that they have a frame rate limiter in place. What that means is: no matter how fast your rig is...you wont get more than about 30 fps...which is a low down dirty shame.

Hmm..not true. I've never experienced this frame limiter at 30. What makes you think that? I'm averaging around 70 fps on my custom detail levels presently w/ V-sync on and my monitor refresh at 85Hz. As far as I can tell, the game has no frame rate cap.

I should have said it was a hunch or something....but thats even worse that it doesn't have a cap..cause a game like nba live 2003 shouldn't be lagging on me with max details..even with all the bells and whistles on.

I had this problem, too, and it was ridiculously frustrating. Do you guys think NBA Live 2004 will run more smoothly than 2003? Of all the wishes and wants I have for Live 2004, it's frame rate capability is probably #1.

Yeah, with the graphics card you had you should have been able to easily play the game well. But that's EA Sports for you!

That's my wish too. Haven't heard of any news about this at all. I expect it to be around the same, if not worse though. I'm pretty sure it's a DX9 game and if it uses some of the advanced shader features make sure you're not using a GeforceFX card unless you want it to play like shit.

The frame rates dropped due to some problem with the mouse and there were instructions on how to go around it, but I never bothered to use them or even try them.

Something like turn off your mouse, then start the game, then come back to windows to turn on your mouse again and then play the game. I never tried this so I don't know if it worked or not... A problem with the mouse??? Could this reek more of a direct console conversion??? How about NO. This problem was with some gamepads too, but I never had a game pad so I don't know about that.

Hopefully all these will be better in Live 2004.

The problem was with USB devices in Windows 98. EA did release a patch which fixed the problem (which was fortunate for me :wink:

).

I actually own the geforce, what im asking is if i change cards will i actually see any major differences? :?:

Jimi Hendrix: The ATI 9000+ are much better than then Geforce MX series... not sure if it's worth the upgrade though (unless of course Live 2004 won't support Geforce MX). I'd wait until 2004 comes out and try it before making the decision to upgrade.

yes but very little..save your money and buy a better graphics card. Both stink for games, with the Radeon 9200 stinking a lil less.

Good for playing on low detail (based on Live 2003).
Bad for any higher. You badly need a faster cpu and graphics card. I think it's time for you to consider upgrading a bit.

Agree with you 100%. 9700pro was good enough.
Suppozedly the Radeon 9800XT coming out at the end of the month will cause many rich 9800pro users to want to switch to them. hmm......
