whew...a little off topic but finally think I'll shed a li'l light on Live 2003 that some of you may find helpful. Guys I absolutley agree that this yrs. or any yrs. version of Live will not be perfect, I can tell you that with a lot of inidividual tweaking you can achieve near perfect gameplay w/real NBA stats. I play 9min qtrs. on superstar with a legends draft and have done major editing and Live 2003 plays like a REAL NBA GAME W/REAL NBA STATS. You just have to roll up your sleeves listen to other's on these and other Live boards, and get to it...

Even though Live 2004 will have sliders, which will make this process far easier to globally edit, the truth is - for PC users we will still have to climb into the database searching for the promised land! Which trust me does exist...

clearly the major benefit of PC over consoles.

- on a side note -
i posted this somewhere for 2003 as a question...

it would be great to be able to adjust you'r own dunk-package... maybe not ingame, but with some .dbf etiting though... i think it woulkd be nice... most people would probebly just take the most spectacular, but some woudln't (like me for an example)...
and then... ehm... oh screw it... this was a bad idea...

I agree, custom dunk packages would be handy. A few times in the roster updates I've had to assign dunk packages that weren't 100% accurate, but were the best available for the player.

Actually, he's saying "Laughing My Ass Off" three times.

Anyway, it's not right to copy posts from another forum and post them here as your own. You should link to the original post or post the text as a quote giving credit to the original author.

showstopper seems to be doing this alot... He just copy/pasting all his bigger posts here from other boards. And that is not right...

I'd be close to banning him right about now... And he semms to go about his way by flaming people that expose his inability to write stuff on his own.

all i can say is that all of my assumptions and observations were logical...most of everything i've said is visual...the overdone momentum/slippery running is VISUAL...the automatic crouching/guard the ball animation is VISUAL...the floating on jumpers is VISUAL...the post up animation and effectiveness is VISUAL....the graphics...VISUAL...i didn't make ANY stupid assumptions about the game...theres alot a 18 minute of d@mn near all gameplay can say...even without playing it yourself...18 minutes is more than enough time to see problems over and over for teh full 18 minutes...i backed up everything i said...i didn't insult any other opinions...i didn't even judge espn 2k4's gameplay compared to the visuals of the gameplay of live in that movie...nor did i say the game was completely garbage....most of the guys over here at a NBA LIVE BOARD are biased....as SOON as you see one person making ONE negative comment about the game/movie...you're quick to say their "hating" or biased....or a fanboy of some other game BESIDES live2004...you expect peeps to have nothing but super positive comments just because its a site dedicated to live 2004...well im not gonna do that....i dont sugar coat shyt....im gonna tell the truth about ANY game and what i think of the game....i want the best basketball game...regardless of who it comes from....you think the developers are gonna fix problems when everybody has nothing but positive things to say about their product? NO...bad feedback MOTIVATES the developer to improve their game....im not speaking on all of you...but most of you are just blindly protecting the game when you know deep down inside you see the same problems i do....please dont let your undying love for the live series cloud reality...the game will keep being near the same every year if some of you guys dont just speak on the problems that are evident. I follow all the sports games every year before their release...and i see this every year....peeps overhyping this particular game and ALWAYS end up being let down when the game drops....i've seen this for 3 years straight. To tell the truth..iim one of the FEW cats that says things in here or at operation sports with any kind of logic involved. Most of everybody else basically just say "espn is gonna suck...live will be amazing!" or either or...without any kind of logic behind anything.

But anyway...for the peeps that think im bashing live over espn 2k4....put it this way....all we have seen is movies of both games....i've seen the core gameplay of nba live 2004 in a video that was made in july (game tweaking is usually done 2-4 weeks before the actual release)....i've made assumptions of the game and gameplay of live 2004 based on a 18 minute movie.....the ONLY thing i've mentioned in comparison to espn is that the graphics and animations are better in espn.....WHICH IS TRUE...you can determine this by just watching a video or screenshots....and thats basically it

Hey Nkredible i can understand where u r coming from but as some people stated earlier the game is not and will not be perfect and the video that was shown is extremely old. There r some things that EA does rite and fixes ever year. Some people look at some flaws as major problems while others do not. I believe Live 2003 was a great game because the flaws it had were not major enough to make it a mediocre game or even worse a bad game IMO. I'm also definitely not saying all i want is a roster update for live 2004 to be good. As long as they make their improvements i will be happy. Their will be flaws in live and espn 2k4 basketball(watever its called) but its up to u to c which one has fatal flaws in your opinion and which one has minor flaws. I will buy live the first day that the stores release it and wen i c the flaws it has i will determine myself if the game's good points really out do the flaws and as long as their aren't any major flaws that i cann't get around then i will be happy. :D

Oh yea showstopper496 i was jus wondering  if u were ever gonna write ur own posts or at least give credit to the people's post that u copy and paste on here or anywhere?

Nkredible,

I would disagree that we all protect the game blindly. We've all expressed our complaints about the NBA Live series at one time or another, and the Gripes sections are a good example of the way people view NBA Live. The Live 2001/2002 Gripes boards are pretty deserted these days, but they were quite busy in the old forum when the complaints were fresh.

And you should expect a little bias towards NBA Live on an NBA Live fan forum. We might get a little more defensive about our favourite basketball sim when we visit other boards, but we do seek improvement in the NBA Live series and will post complaints that we have.

Nkredible.... Well, I think you should read a couple of threads before posting that we are all protecting and nurturing EA sports flawed image of their game.

Usually this time of year, the air is filled with hope and happiness as the game looks sweet and the features seem to be compelling and revolutionary.

We bash the game if there's something to bash... But we don't just go "live sucks" all year, but instead we try to find a good basis for a new build of the game. And there was a lot of good in Live 2003, but there was a lot of bad in there too. You just need to tweak the 2003 to get a good balanced gameplay. It was a little off, but this year it seems that we can all do the tweaking so it really is going to be better. If we could have had sliders in Live 2003, well if you could slow the game down a little and drop the shooting percentages, well it's already a very good game. Only the free throws and steals remain of the problems.

We don't go "live rulz" all year either... Gameplay sliders are probably the best upgrade to any sports game. And another that could be equal, well I can't think of anything, except maybe the multi-season mode.

Just read some of the forums and you can see that almost all of the threads have started cause of a problem etc. And we try to find a good way to fix the problem and improve upon it. I'm sure 2k-series fans gripe about their game too...

It is hard to make a game that will please everyone...

(I wonder why the gripes boards suddenly came up from nowhere when EA changed the team making Live games...)

I hear and understand what you guys are saying...but my thing is...as soon as my post was in here (thanks to showsopper, lol)...everybody pointed out everything i said...and had something negative to say about it. I mean...its like its "but this" and "but that"...but NOBODY here wants to admit to anything...i know im not the only one seeing problems in the video. It's like people here think you can't see problems at all unless you actually play the game and that is just not true all the time...theres ALOT you can tell about a game from a 18 minute gameplay movie...i can see if it was a short 45 second clip. We all say the wizards are gonna suck this year by lookin at how they play without Jordan...but we havn't actually played on the court with em right? I dont expect everybody to agree with all of my comments...but i have recieved NOTHING but negative feedback from my post...i know d@mn well im not the only one seeing funny shyt in the video...but nobody wants to knock the game when somebody else thats a lil more harsh is knocking it. I may come off a lil too harsh on the game...but that's just because everybody is expecting to hear more positive about the game than negative being this is a nba live forum. I just tell it how i see it...and i dont feel I diserve all the negative feedback because of my personal opinion of the movie...especially when im backing up every comment i've made...and alot of it can be justified from watching the video..that's all

Btw The movie isnt even that old...case in point...zo mourning is on the nets in the video...that trade happened in july. Game development is usually over 2-4 weeks before the final product is shipped...

To be fair, not everyone posted something negative. There's a few comments such as "You make a valid point" and I'm sure some people agree with your observations.

The problem is, we've had 2K fans signup before and do nothing but bash NBA Live and insult other forum members who posted positive comments about Live. Needless to say, that doesn't help build a friendly atmosphere.

"...but NOBODY here wants to admit to anything...

Again, not quite true. Not every post about the previews has been positive. A quick glance through some of the recent threads will reveal not everybody has been completely satisfied with the player models/cyberfaces/what was seen in the video.

Nkredible you explained yourself very well and thats to your credit. There are some things in your post which i do agree with but the majority i dont. The momentum system i do not think is overdone from seeing the video, every sports game has momentum these days madden espn etc. and it is realistic. Basketball is a game where momentum affects everything ...the way the ball bounces, the direction of a deflection, the trajectory of a shot etc. Had the developers not implemented a better momentum system...things like the new drop step would be pointless, coming off screens would be pointless etc. The collision detection all of us pretty much know will be fixed. The player models do look short to me and sometimes awkward in the way they move, the half run/jog animation seems goofy at times to me. I think what i will do is change my screen size and dimensions to get more elongated figures in Live.

The faces and detail i am almost sure will look better in the finished product so i'm not worried about it. The post game u may be right about as what you described was the case in Live 2003. I have seen all videos concerning live 2004 up to now and i have yet to see anything properly showing the ball being worked in the post. In anycase a toned down game tempo always led to an effective post game for me in live 2003 and from what we know 2004 will have game speed sliders to tweak to our liking as well as new freestyle moves in the post. So within that again i'm not concerned enough to call it a flaw yet until i play the game.

In terms of ten man mo cap i dont think its a drastic difference but then again it can be depending on your style of play. I think the biggest effect it will have is on defense and we all know improved realistic defense is always good. its defineatly a step in the right direction and an attempt at improving player movement and the flow of the game. Better a step forward than a step back huh. The automatic guard the ball animation to me is very realistic. It may look awkward during the game but i think that is because we are used to facing up the opponent whenever we have the ball instead of protecting it waiting for a play to develop. If u notice in the videos the moment the defender steps back and relaxes on defense the guard ball is no longer necessary and isnt done. Thats how half court basketball should be, a methodical and strategic pace with good ball sense and movement. I see the potential for those things in the videos despite the beta testers poor play.

I agree 100 percent about the dunks. I actually dont want to see anything in 2004 that reminds me of 2003. I'd prefer to have all new shot animations fadeway animations dribbling dunks layups all of the above. For the most part it seems theyve added some new nice lookin animations liek the fadeaway lebron did in the video, the drop step and some dribbles. However obviously the old dunks are stil there to some degree, many of which were a bit exaggerated.

All in all the game seems promising to me. I realise nothing I say now about faults can be very credible since the game aint out yet so i'm patiently waiting before i blast it lol.

We just all are hopeful and praying that the game is good. And a demo made in july is ancient. The tweaking is done as we speak of it.

What you can see from the video are the mo-capping annimations etc.

I'm hoping the game will out do it self... And that all the problems will be fixed. And take no offense "Nkredible", but we see different aspects of basket ball and we appreciate different things so you might see something as a flaw and someone might see it as realistic and vice versa.

I don't like that the game is being bashed on the head before it's release. Trust me, this is the first place to find any good and valid bashes as soon as the game is out... If there is something to bash. But what is good about these bashes is that the real fans are doing the bashing and thus you know that there's certainly something wrong with the topic in question. Here people are honest about the product. As honest as 2k series fans are on their forums.

I want to see the finished product before I say anything about the game... You can't say anything valid about the game before you get the finished product to test. And this is the bottom line...

That's a good summation Metsis. (Y) I'd like to add that if we look at the previews with a negative attitude (ie looking to bash), then we're not going to see the good, and we're not going to enjoy the game. If you play a game or watch a television show with the intention of being critical and finding every fault, you're not going to notice any good or get any enjoyment out of it.

If you buy the game to bash, then you've wasted your cash.

First, it's pretty pathetic for you (showstopper) to steal someone else's post and claim it as yours. Pathetic.

Second, the game isn't complete. It is hard to judge an incomplete game therefore I rather wait for reviews not reviews of previews.
