NOV 07: VAN 102 - MIA 111
Following Vancouver's dramatic 3 point victory in a rematch against the Lakers for their first victory of the season, the team left for it's first road trip of the season, a 4 game stretch taking them through Florida, then up to face off against Atlanta and Charlotte, in a series of back-to-backs. The first stop is Miami, and the team's second nationally broadcast game. The Heat were unbeaten heading into their match-up with the Sonics, but the return of a healthy Chris Wilcox had the team buzzing with anticipation. Miami is still certainly the deeper team and heavily favored to win, but Rashard Lewis doesn't put any stock in odds.
"I like how we match-up against them, the Heat. I do. I think we can throw lots of different looks at them. We'll see who comes out on top."
Though Lewis had a reasonable game, aside from shooting the ball, he certainly didn't step it up as needed against the defending champs, fouling out in 29 minutes of playing time, and the Heat cruised to a 111-102 win. The game wasn't as close as the score would indicate, however. The Heat dominated from the tip, getting pretty much whatever they wanted on offense, and forcing Vancouver into contested jumpers on the other end. Were it not for a late rally by the Sonics, it may well have been 20 point victory for Miami.

BOX SCORE

The next day the Sonics played in Orlando, getting blown out
106-89. Dwight Howard showed Robert Swift he still has a few things to learn about the NBA, putting up 31 points and grabbing 9 offensive rebounds alone, 16 total. With Turkoglu and Nelson knocking down outside shots, the game was over by halftime. Chris Wilcox returned to the starting lineup for Vancouver following his strong showing against Miami, and posted a 15-13 double double.
Two days later the Sonics earned their second win of the season, first on the road, against the Charlotte Bobcats. Robert Swift bounced back from his poor showing in Orlando, and thoroughly dominated Emeka Okafor, going for 20 and 10, his 4th double-double of the season. Rashard Lewis topped 30 points for the first time this season, posting 32 in the win. Adam Morrison led the Bobcats with 18. The final score was
112-101. The next day, though, the Sonics lost again, this time to the surprising Atlanta Hawks, who, with the victory, improved to 5-1 on the young season, by a final score of
110-91. The loss prompted coach Hill to suggest in his post-game comments that Anthony Parker may be replaced in the starting lineup for the next game, due to his poor showing on the current road trip. Earl Watson rolled his left ankle in the third quarter, and did not return. The diagnosis is a mild sprain which should heal in about a week. He will be able to play through it, but his quickness will be limited.
The team also completed it's second trade with the Raptors so far this year, sending rookie center Saer Sene for power forward Kris Humphries. The Vancouver fans were not fond of this deal, feeling it was a lateral move that did nothing to make up for trading Ray Allen, which was a wildly unpopular trade to so far, with the team struggling to 2-5 start. General Manager Rick Sund had stated at the time of the deal that a large consideration was the new owners desire to move Ray Allen's $14 million dollar contract so that the team would have the cap space available to rebuild around Rashard Lewis. A poor seven game stretch is unlikely to alter that plan.
