I hope fix patches by EA will actually work this time..

It was ridiculous in Live 2003 where you couldn't even figure out if your fix patch was actually installed onto you game or not. It didn't show "Version 1.1" or something that can indicate the patch was correctly implemented. And they used ActiveX to install their fixes (which was pretty stupid since it said on the readme that it actually something that would help users easier but it backfired and caused plenty of problems for a lot of people). I'd just like for EA to keep their fix patches as .exe's and it'll save thousands of people from trouble.

live 2003 has fix patches? what do they do or suppose to do? EA are usually slack in giving additional support (official patches for live series). Last time I remember of significant patches were for live99.

They gave out ONE fix patch for Live 2003 and there were still many problems to be solved. 
They made it seem like "Oh we don't care about Live 2003 anymore, let's worry about Live 2004 now".
The fix patch for Live 2003 used ActiveX components for Internet Explorer browsers. It made it hard on us to install the patch correctly (since a few people used Netscape and weren't willing to get IE just for a patch). It would of been better if they stuck with .exe applications.
Like you mentiond, the EA Live team seems to slack the support we need. Others like the Madden and NHL groups release official roster updates and more in-depth fix patches.

Yes, the official patch is still available. It fixes the problem of slow framerates when using USB devices in Windows 98, as well as a couple of other minor bugs.
I agree that any future official patches should be downloadable .exe files. Much easier to install (and re-install if you need to re-install your game).
