Kobe Bryant Set to Play on Sunday

Kobe Bryant

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The wait is over for Lakers fans as Kobe Bryant is set to return tomorrow night against the Seattle Supersonics. The Lakers superstar has been sidelined for several months now after knee surgery at the beginning of the off-season. Bryant’s struggle to return to form has been kept at a low profile as he has only just recently admitted that the extent of the injury is much more serious than he and the team had let on.

In a press conference this morning, Bryant admitted that his knee had been bothering him more than he expected and he said that it would be tough to get back on track. “I just want everyone to understand that I’m not even going to be myself when I get back. I think it will take up to January before I start to play at my best.”

Phil Jackson seemed to be pleased with his star’s return as the Lakers have started the season with a modest 1-2 record. “We’ve had a tough loss against the Sonics and also a close win over the Warriors. A blow out against the Suns so I would say we wouldn’t mind getting Kobe back. The thing with Kobe’s knee is that he’s the only one who knows if he’s capable of playing or not. If he says he can play, I will take his word for it.”

Bryant last season averaged the highest scoring average for an NBA season since Michael Jordan in 1988. He helped lead the Lakers into the playoffs and it was there that he helped his side get a 3-1 series lead before the Phoenix Suns stole the show back. Bryant had many individual achievements that will surely be hard to top.

However, Bryant claims it’s all about winning, “This year I just want to help us win. I want to be more of a team guy and I want to really help us win and get back to the playoffs.”

Bryant has trained with the team for several weeks and reports have indicated that he is halfway there in regard to being 100%.

Kobe Returns, Lakers Lose Again
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (AP) -- Kobe Bryant’s return from injury began with a bang but ended with a loss to the 3-0 Seattle Sonics. Ray Allen scored 12 of his 24 points in the final quarter as the Lakers saw a close game get further away from their grasp. Following a win in Los Angeles, Allen got more help from his team mates in this game as Rashard Lewis, Luke Ridnour, Chris Wilcox and Earl Watson each scored in double figures.

Allen and Bryant’s rivalry deepened as Allen accused Bryant of malicious play. “He’s pushing and shoving, he’s going to injure somebody,” Allen criticised Bryant, who played as number 24 for the first time this season. Bryant shot back, “If he can’t get physical and if he doesn’t think basketball is a contact sport, he should go play some other sport. What’s that sport where you can’t touch nobody?”

Netball would be the sport Bryant was looking for.

Kobe scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half. His first two baskets came when he played a little bit of the second quarter but despite Bryant’s wizardry on offence, he was slower than usual on defence. His lack of quickness led him to foul Allen and Ridnour hard on five occasions resulting in 3 fouls and a few not-so-good looking staring down.

Luke Walton stared once again for Los Angeles with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 14 assists. “I wanted to let him go for the triple double but I didn’t know he had 9 rebounds. I thought he was a lot further from that,” Phil Jackson said. Walton, on hearing that he just missed the chance to notch a second straight triple double and his second career triple double just shrugged, “It’s ok. Like Jason Kidd says, you need to get it in the flow of the game. No cheap stuff. If I needed to be out there, I would have been out there.”

Jordan Farmar scored 15 points from off the bench but he and Andrew Bynum had multiple errors that cost the Lakers the game. “Their inexperience showed tonight,” Jackson said, “It will be good to get some of our vets back soon.” Bynum played solid before fouling out in the third quarter.

Game Notes

Luke Ridnour and Chris Wilcox both started the game despite getting minor injuries in the last game… Los Angeles lost 89-86 in the last match…

You never know about Walton. His career high is 9 assists. He's never had the chance to play in the role I'm playing him in in the dynasty.

And Williams doesn't take as many shots as Farmar. I use Farmar as a scorer type guy off the bench. He comes in with a burst of energy. Williams is a catch and shoot player and defender. I've found him useful on defence. (Y)

And Kobe is back. :D

Good to see Kobe is back, but he didn't help you to win this game. 2nd game when Luke having so many assits. It's cool to see him sharing the ball so well and its ok if you just get these stats naturally, but if you are trying to make more assists with him intentionally, so not cool at all.

Ahh...you lost...SUCKS!..i hate loosing streaks, watch out for this shit. I trully agree with Marquis, that playing more with one player, to get his stats up isn't good, cause it makes the game look unrealistic and not attractive...

Four Game Recap

Image
ABOVE: Andrew Bynum has come
a long way in such a short time

Minnesota Timberwolves @ Los Angeles Lakers

Nov. 7, LOS ANGELES. (AP) -- Maurice Evans made his return to the Lakers’ starting line up by leading the team with 19 points and 8 rebounds. He led four other scorers in double figures including rookie Jordan Farmar who finished with an impressive 15 points and 8 assists off the bench. “Farmar played his best game yet,” Phil Jackson said, “But he’s not going to start any games until he does this every night.”

Kobe Bryant was also impressive in his second game back by chipping in 13 points in limited minutes. The visiting Timberwolves were led by Ricky Davis and Kevin Garnett. Minnesota fell behind early but were never too far behind the home side until the third quarter when Bryant scored 8 of his 13 points. The Timberwolves used their size advantage in the last quarter; taking advantage of Andrew Bynum’s foul trouble. Minnesota trailed by as little as 6 points before the Lakers edged away in the closing minutes.

Los Angeles Lakers @ Portland Trailblazers

Nov. 8, PORTLAND. (AP) -- Brandon Roy scored 19 of his 24 points in the second half of this game and proved to Kobe Bryant that he was ready for the NBA. In a pre-game interview, Bryant said that he was confident that his Lakers would take advantage of the Trailblazers’ inexperience, especially rookie Brandon Roy. “I didn’t let him (Bryant) get to my head. I just wanted to prove him wrong,” Roy stated.

Bryant played limited minutes as Luke Walton led the team with 22 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Jordan Farmar was impressive again with 14 points and 5 assists from off the bench. His hot play has led to many people asking Phil Jackson to start the young rookie to which he has quipped, “It’s still too early.” Andrew Bynum seems to have hit some kind of ‘Sophomore Wall’ as he fouled out in his second straight foul plagued game. “He’s just not coping,” Phil Jackson said before hinting, “He might not start the next game. He’s tired.”

The Lakers and Blazers were neck and neck for most of the game before the Lakers made an early 8-0 run to start the fourth quarter. Portland came back behind Roy’s 9 fourth quarter points and contributions from Raef Lafrentz and Jamaal Magloire. “It was a good win and confidence boost for us,” Juan Dixon stated, “We’re pumped for our next game.”

Detroit Pistons @ Los Angeles Lakers

Nov. 10, LOS ANGELES. (AP) -- Rip Hamilton, Chauncey Billups and Tayshaun Prince played poorly, leading to a fourth quarter meltdown against the Los Angeles Lakers. Rasheed Wallace led the team with 20 points and 11 rebounds and Nzar Mohammed had 18 points but it all depended on the productivity of the other three Pistons starters for the outcome of the game.

The Lakers on the other hand made a mistake be sitting back after taking a big lead after the first half. The Pistons battled and fought back into the game before Phil Jackson urged his side to play with a bit more intensity. It worked out as they didn’t even need an ailing Kobe Bryant to finish off their visiting opponents. Shammond Williams was big in the final quarter as he finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds despite dismal shooting. Maurice Evans, Luke Waltons, Vladimir Radmanovic and Jahidi White each finished with double digit scoring. Brian Cook was simply outstanding finishing with a team leading 26 points and 8 rebounds from off the bench.

Memphis Grizzlies @ Los Angeles Lakers

Nov. 12, LOS ANGELES. (AP) -- Pau Gasol made an unlikely return to play as doctors informed that he had made a speedy recovery. He seemed to be the spark to a struggling Memphis team as he finished the night with 17 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists and led the Grizzlies to a 17 points win. Rookie Rudy Gay was impressive in his first ever game in Los Angeles and scored 8 points on 4 for 5 shooting in front of the STAPLES Centre crowd.

Andrew Bynum struggled again as he was man handled down low in the post. This brought Phil Jackson to react, “Andrew is not ready to start every game. That’s why we are anticipating the return of Kwame Brown tomorrow and Kwame will start in Andrew’s place.” The Lakers were led once more by another big game from Luke Walton who had 19 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists. Rookie Jordan Farmar put further pressure on Phil Jackson to start him as he outplayed Shammond Williams with 13 points on 6 for 11 shooting from off the bench.

Kobe's not helping us win too many games cause he's not ready to play yet... And Luke getting assists is natural... this game was intervened at half time... He already had 6 assists, so yeh... it works out man.

I'm not stat playing but yeh... without all the players, Luke and Maurice are the guys I use most though... it's just how it is.

That game was intervened at half time and I let them back in the game cause I had Rad man at PF and Cook at C ... so I just killed them in the fourth :D

And I'm tinkering with the recap style... trying to find the fastest and best one. Do you like pictures as links?

I was tinkering with the DBF and changed something and now the file is screwed so this dynasty is over... I managed to play on last game and I will post the recap later but things were looking good for my virtual Lakers.

Still undecided on whether I will start a new one. We will see how things go! Thanks for following!

Kwame Brown Dominates in Comeback Game
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (AP) --Kwame Brown was all over the court as he made a more than successful return to the Lakers. Kobe Bryant made his first start of the season and the Lakers cruised to an easy victory over the visiting Toronto Raptors. Kwame Brown dominated at both ends of the floor finishing with 22 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocks and gave Andrew Bynum a well-earned rest.

Even after losing his starting job, Bynum was pleased to see the Lakers’ Brown playing well. “It doesn’t matter who starts,” Bynum stated, “As long as the team wins.” Kobe Bryant also played very well as he scored 31 points. Bryant and Brown got LA off to a hot start with Brown scoring 16 and Bryant scoring 18 in the first half.

The Lakers got off to a quick start but allowed the Raptors to get back into the game be halftime. Maurice Evans then came off the bench to score 12 of his 18 points in the third quarter to help the Lakers reclaim and hold onto a big lead. “Mo Evans really helped us tonight,” Phil Jackson said, “I was very happy with his production as our main sub.”

The Raptors’ Chris Bosh found the defensive pressure from the Lakers’ frontcourt hard to get past and finished with just 16 points and 11 rebounds due to his inability to get off many shots. Rasho Nesterovic was brilliant on the glass as he gathered 17 rebounds while Mo Peterson led the team in scoring with 18 points. TJ Ford struggled with his shooting, finishing 4 for 21 from the field.

“It was unfortunate that our shots weren’t falling tonight,” Raptors’ coach Sam Mitchell stated, “Especially for TJ, the Lakers played a great zone and forced us to shoot shots from outside. That helped them (Lakers) win.”

Vladimir Radmanovic was unlucky as he injured his already injured hand in a hard collision with Chris Bosh just a minute into him getting into the game. The Serbian sharp shooter returned to the fray but wasn’t himself and after the game he was examined by team doctors. “It’s not looking good,” one of the members of the medical staff told reporters.

Game Notes

Bryant raised his scoring average to 11 points a game… Radmanovic aggravated his sore hand and will be out for the rest of the season in ordert to pursue hand surgery… Kobe Bryant scored 81 points against the Raptors last season…

Ouch, sucks that this has come to an end. Dynasties that normally come to an end are due to incorrect dbf editing, so I always try to stay away from that as much as possible.

Next time you should back up your saved files before you do anything that tinkers with the DBF editing or that you're not too sure about.
