THIS COULD BE THE DUMBEST THING EVER!!!!!!!

Thu Jul 24, 2003 1:31 pm

For instance, if you spend hours upon hours playing Madden NFL 2004, and win most of your games, your success will be reflected in the EA SPORTS Bio screen of FIFA Soccer 2004, where you'll be able to unlock new players, uniforms and teams, depending on how many points you've accumulated.

EA SPORTS Bio works with the game console's memory card to store your gaming information, so that you accumulate points every time you play and each time you log a significant accomplishment. The better you are at one game, the more points you'll earn towards unlocking rewards in other games.

Rewards for the different games are given in a tiered system, wherein a casual gamer might be able to unlock new cheats, player cards and jerseys, while someone who racks up a ton of points will open up brand new stadiums, teams and even gaming modes. Each game will have its own specific rewards, but they'll all be tied to the EA SPORTS Bio point system

if this means that i cant play as my beloved legend lakers unless i buy fifa 2004...or anything else like that then EA IS A JOKE!!! this would be one of the worst features that could be added into a game IF it's what i think and what it sound like...just imagine not being able to have a throwback jersey unless you win the stanley cup.....if this is the case then i think EA really needs to think harder about how this would rip us off of alot of things we were looking forward to in the up coming EA titles....

Getting ready to cry us a river?

I'm sure if you play a ton of NBA Live you will be able to unlock all the rewards too...

I think the main point EA is saying is that if you buy and play more than one of their games online your points will work towards all the games that you play...it is a marketing plan to keep people from limiting themselves to one game and to buy more of the EA Sports titles...

I just hope thier new online system takes into account repeated disconnections...for those who cheat by quiting a game when they are losing and thus preserving their 50-0 record...

Goodz is actually bringing up a good point. Basketball is the only sport I follow (though I can appreciate other sports), thus I don't buy any other sports sim except NBA Live. I'm already against unlockables as it is - I think retro jerseys, legends and classic teams should all be available from the moment the game is installed - I certainly wouldn't want to buy a game I didn't want just to unlock something in NBA Live.

I don't think this will be the case though. It would not be fair to customers who do not wish the buy all the EA Sports titles, nor would it be fair to customers who do not have Internet access or a sufficient connection for online gaming (the latter would be me).

and u all forgetting, what ppl would be actually desperate and crazy enough to do such a thing, they would lose like a million customers(i could be exagerating  ), cuz they dont like that shit, not a common strike against ea but u know what i mean, ppl will buy even less games then, not more, thats just dumb, its positive to link them in some ways, but features should be avaible within the game only

YES!!!!! I really do hope they do something about that. Im online playing all the time and there r people wit 630 wins 0 losses and about 450 dissconnects  . I wish they would jus erase there profiles or give them a whole bunch of losses

Let's remember though, we have access to the dbf files and art files so we could just extract them could we not and activate it as a patch? I don't know if another gaming mode would work in that way though.

i guess someone will release some saves to unlock things

Sat Jul 26, 2003 11:11 am

The BIO is nothin. Its in NCAA Football anyway. They just give you points for just playing games.

Sat Jul 26, 2003 11:17 am

It really isnt that big a deal...no one will suffer from playing nba live 2003 just because the ea bio is implemented. its only there to encourage playing ea sport games.. that is all.

You can't play as them anyway, since they won't be in the game...

pretty sure i read that legendary teams are going to be in the game Celts, Bulls etc..
why wouldnt they add the Lakers?

Mon Jul 28, 2003 12:16 pm

They've recently announced that they will not be including the classic teams after all.

Mon Jul 28, 2003 3:04 pm

WHOA!! i really missed out on this on...when was this...whatta let down...i was really looking forward to that

Mon Jul 28, 2003 5:48 pm

It's disappointing but as I said in the other topic, it's better than releasing a watered down version of the classic teams feature, with a bunch of "roster players" in place of missing players.

Mon Jul 28, 2003 9:11 pm

very dissapointing... i wish i could of played wtih the 90's Bulls...80's Celtics and Lakers... oh well..i think they gotta improve the gameplay first before add those bonus anywayz..

btw my 300 post...only 3709 posts behind Andrew... :)

Assuming the game is as patcher-friendly as NBA Live 2003, adding classic teams shouldn't be too difficult.

but wouldn't having them along with the original game make things much easier for the patchers? if the guys at ea were not sure that they would be able to include the feature in the game, they shouldn't have announced it in the first place

Tue Jul 29, 2003 3:42 pm

I am pretty sure that the classic teams have been cut because of money and time. I think EA wanted to do them good etc. but got shot down by some teams and some players.

You do remember that Michael Jordan's first official appearance in the game was like in 99. And David Robinson appeared in 97 or 98 the first time.

There are some players that put huge price tags on the use of their names and EA only has so much money to throw the classic teams together.

Don't go burning EA cause it propably isn't their fault...

As Andrew said it... It's better they release them properly then with Roster Players filling up the rosters.

Sure, it would have been easier but if they can't do it properly then they shouldn't do it. Announcing it so early was probably a mistake, but it was probably looking likely but certain circumstances have forced them to pull the plug.

MJ first appeared (as a Legend) in NBA Live 2000. EA wanted to include him in earlier Lives but he was asking for more than they were willing to spend. David Robinson has been in the series since NBA Live 96.

how much money does ea usually spend on the player copyright stuff anyway?

Wed Jul 30, 2003 5:56 pm

I have no idea. I don't think those details are made public.

Sun Aug 03, 2003 3:46 am

this thing of "EA SPORTS BIO" is a very bad idea. ...and all those games are very expensive :(
