Ghost Rider movie (56K users beware, pics inside)

Postby shadowgrin on Mon Jul 10, 2006 3:27 am

Even though it's still a long way until the release of the movie on February 16, 2007, I just had to post this.
Ghost Rider was the first Marvel badass I have read on comics, even before I knew of Wolverine, and because I'm not impressed with that green monster named Hulk.
It was supposed to be released this summer but was aborted to avoid conflict with X-men 3 and "the daddy" of all superheroes, Superman.
Forgive my fanboy rants, here are some pics:

Yea i saw the trailor a couple months ago at the movies...it looks badass if done right. Its kinda weird that they chose such an obscure superhero when people like thor and captain america etc. havent been done recently.

A Captain America movie was supposed to be started after the success of the first X-men (or Spider-man, I can't remember) movie even before a Ghost Rider movie was thought of, but usual production problems such as director/cast backing out and unable to find the right ones and budget, storyline disagreements popped up. This halted down the greenlighting of the movie while Ghost Rider had already started. Marvel is still working on it though and it might be one of the initial offering of Marvel's new endeavor in establishing their own film outfit to make their own movies.

It might help in choosing a character that is not well-known as it lessens the expectations and demand from moviegoers.

Wow, Nicholas Cage lost a lot of weight since Adaptation. I don't like him as an actor, and having him as Ghost Rider kinda spoils it, but ah well, maybe he'll impress me for once.

the prob with captain america was who had the rights. for a long time it was in development hell because of that, but in the last couple of months marvel got the rights back, and will produce the film on their own (through paramount, part of their deal).

the problem with Cap is the current situation in the world, and it's feelings towards America, so if it's not done right, it would backfire on the producers big time financially. best thing would be i'm thinking to set it during WW2, as originally in the comics...

The expectations are already quite low, and the film is shifted to the worst month a film can be released in (usually not a good sign if the studio does that), and the film is directed by the guy who ruined Daredevil, one of the more interesting superheros in the Marvel vault...

I'm sick of these comic remakes as movies. I've never even heard of Ghost Rider.

I personally hate Nicholas Cage so its disappointing to see him as Ghost Rider. Hopefully a ood performance can make up for it.

Funny you mentioned that.
Some trivia from IMDb:
Nicolas Cage had to have his Ghost Rider tattoo covered with make-up in order to play Johnny Blaze (Ghost Rider).

Nicolas Cage's hairpiece required three hours to apply every day.

I guess the reason why Cage got the part is because he's a big Ghost Rider fan and he wanted it so bad he might have done some studio maneuverings to clinch it.

I read some good reviews about the Daredevil DVD Director's Cut.
I haven't found one yet here in my country (maybe I'm just lazy) as to make my own opinion.
From IMDb:
According to Gary Foster, Avi Arad and Mark Steven Johnson, the recently released Director's cut DVD of this feature was in fact the originally intended theatrical release until the very last minute, when they decided to make the changes necessary to please Twentieth Century-Fox to get the film a PG-13 rating.

The film was originally envisioned as an R-rated film with nudity and hard violence.

The film's demise might have been brought by the studio's contraints on the film's contents. Bastards.
The director might have a 2nd chance with Ghost Rider, if the studio lets him do his thing, and if Nic Cage doesn't disappoint.

he's a big comic fan in general, but had a fare share of bad luck landing roles... he was even supposed to be Superman at one time.

The film's demise might have been brought by the studio's contraints on the film's contents.

It's not the PG13 rating that killed Daredevil, it's bad direction, editing (uninteligable action scenes), and a godawful already-dated MTV nu-rock score (Evanescence?). Not saying it's all Mark Steven Johnson's fault, sure the studio probably had influence, but considering that all he was saying in interviews was that he's biggest DD fan in the world, he sure didn't fight hard enough for his dream project. If that was the case. Or it was just pure incompetence on his part. The directors cut of the film makes me lean to the latter...

And the Ghostrider visuals look mediocre at best so far... Maybe they aren't completed, but I don't think you can do much more with a flaming skull...
