SEASON UPDATE (NOV '05)

Just a quick recap of November 2005. I don't have too many pics as a lot didn't turn out initially but have adjust settings & pic quality is starting to get better :P. I also just realised that NBA2k6's boxscores are pretty garbage & don't tell me all the info I require, so will just give a basic run through of month.

Team Record for Month: 2-3 (Wins - vs ORL, @ MIL; Losses - @ LAL, @ Pho, vs Atl)
Overall Record for Season: 2-3

Team has been up-and-down & are clearly playing as their talent might suggest, which is not too well. The season started well as the Hornets overcame a 20pt deficit in the 4th quarter behind rookie Chris Paul's superb, clutch debut with 25pts, 5rebs, 8asts & 0TO's to beat out the Orlando Magic. The Hornets followed that result 2 games later with an epic 1pt victory in Milwaukee, as they held out against rookie Andrew Bogut's 27pts, 7reb outburst. Those were the only real highlights as the Hornets wer blown out by about 20-30pts in each of their losses. So the team has plenty to work on.

Rookie Chris Paul has already established himself as the leader of this young ballclub as he is doing everything required of him. Whilst he has been a bit inconsistent shooting the ball, this can be overcome with some work with some of the coaching staff. Other positive performers include David West, Demond Mason & Kirk Synder. Look for some trades in the works though, as GM Watson needs to bring in some talent for coach Byron Scott to work with.

Here's a few pics from the month that was:

Image
Synder has been superlative as the team's starting SG, as he is a blur in the open court

Image
Rookie Chris Paul was giving Steve Nash fits defensively all night long, however he's not the first to do so

Image
Are we looking at the Hornets' newest face of the franchise? Not since LJ & Zo joined them, have the Hornets had such a highly rated youngster

pics are all taken in replays....top one is in-game replay....bottom two are when I've gone in & taken a snap....shame my camera isn't better as in that bottom Chris Paul one you can see all his lines on his lips (you can see them faintly in the pic, but are better)....but once again that is replays, but it's still pretty sweet nonetheless

THE MAN IN THE HOTSEAT

Image
GM Watson might be green, but he does know that Renaldo Balkman is not worth a 1st Round pick

POSSIBLE ROSTER MOVEMENTS ON HORIZON?

Whilst the season is still in its infancy, GM Watson is already looking to make some changes & bring in the type of personnel that can help this team win more ball games. Watson is enamoured with Chris Paul, so he is virtually untouchable. Watson also is believed to be high on players like David West & Kirk Synder, so I wouldn't expect them to be going anywhere anytime soon. Who will go is anyones guess, but something does seem to be in the works.

HORNETS SCOUTS GET TO WORK

Word on the street was this Turkish kid named Tugay Izzet was gonna be the next great forward out of Europe. So why not get someone to check him out, so scout Jimmy Forrest got the task assigned to him to travel over to Europe & scope him out. Initial word was he had already solidified himself as a late lottery pick & could move higher. This is what Forrest had to say:

Image

Later that month, mock drafts around the net had dropped him to a bubble 1st Round pick:

Image

Latest word coming out is that he is sliding fast & is seen as a project whose game, even if it developed, wouldn't transition very well to the pace of the NBA game. He's now residing somewhere in the 2nd Round. Big fall from grace for another highly touted Euro prospect.

Forrest also checked out an Aussie bigman named Jeb Stokes, however he said the Aussie was not a very good player at the moment, but he alluded to the possibility of some upside. Although I doubt it's a path that the Hornets would want to pursue.

------

That's all for now....

enjoy

I think you already know the answer to that one  I remember you telling me back in 2k5 days how players went up & down the draft board....it's good to see....adds that uncertainty factor around the draft that needs to be there....I'm glad they don't show potential ratings either (or at least they don't yet)....

a little side note, but previously you said you play around with opposing team's playbooks....do you assign VIPs to them or whatnot? also, what's your main slider adjustments?

Nah I just changed their default playbooks... everyone has the same (Pick & Roll, Iso and a few others) so I gave them more position specific ones. That being said, if you go through and edit every players individual tendancy ratings you can pretty much override the playbooks. The higher the tendancy (i.e if Kobe has 90 for mid range) the more shots they'll actually take.

also, what's your main slider adjustments?

Tendancies... the key thing is to get them taking the kind of shots you want them to take. Once you get that sorted it's easy to work things out from there.

yep, I think tendancies must be the way to go....at least it will stop Marion jacking up like 1000 3's like he did last game

THE MAN IN THE HOTSEAT

Image

Whilst they seem like good moves to some, Watson can't help but wonder why the team's chemistry has plummeted down to 24. Cleary Watson has miscalculated the intracacies of helping to build an NBA franchise back to prominence.

WE HAVE A TRADE, HOLD ON, WE HAVE A FEW TRADES

GM Watson wasted no time in his quest to retool this disenchanted franchise. Watson sent journeymen PF/C Marc Jackson & PG Moochie Norris to San Antonio for Slovenia PG Beno Udrih & Watson's fellow countrymen, PF/C Sean Marks. The move came as a bit of a surprise to many as the Spurs have seemingly given up on the talent Udrih so quickly, & instead shored up their frontline in a quest for another title this season. The Hornets aren't complaining though, as Udrih will finally get a chance to shine, & is expected to see time at PG backing up rookie Chris Paul, as well as playing alongside Paul at SG at times. As for Marks, who knows what impact he will have on this Hornets' roster. However, any big guy with a pulse is just what the doctor ordered for the Hornets.

Next on the agenda for Watson was to move backup PG Speedy Claxton. Whilst Claxton had been playing well to date, he is in the last year of his contract & Speedy doesn't figure into the team's long-term plans, especially with the arrival of PG Beno Udrih from San Antonio. Claxton was floated around the league & the Hawks came knocking as they offered the Hornets their 2006 1st Round draft pick for him. Seems like quite a lot to offer, consider how high that draft pick could be. However the Hawks are in dire need of a quality PG & Claxton is obviously the one they want. After some minor adjustments to the trade, Watson had sent PG Speedy Claxton & C Aaron Williams to Atlanta for their 2006 1st Round pick & it's 2007 2nd Round pick. Atlanta got help at their two weakest positions - PG & C, & the Hornets picked up some more draft picks to add to the vault. This trade won't help the Hornets win right now, but should go some way to helping them build a better team for the future.

The third trade of the week sent PF Jackson Vroman to Indiana for PG Eddie Gill. This trade was pretty simple - the Hornets needed a third string PG, the Pacers had 5 PG's already on their roster & need another big body. Watson seemed satisfied with this deal as he feels that Gill can more than hold his own should there be an injury to any of the other Hornets' guards.

The fourth & final trade of the week sent SF Rasual Butler to Detroit for SG Carlos Delfino. This trade was made as Butler was in the last year of his deal & likely would've wanted a pay rise. Delfino is locked up for next few season at between $1M & $2M. GM Watson liked what he saw in Delfino back in Europe & believes he has a future in the NBA. Let's hope he's right. Delfino will likely back up the SG & SF positions & figures to finally be part of an NBA team's regular rotation.

To fill out their final two vacated roster slots from the Atlanta trade, Watson wasted no time in signing PF Donnell Harvey & C Jelani McCoy to 1 year deals at $330k each. Hornets' staff really love the energy that Donnell Harvey brings to the table. He's a scrapper & will hit the offensive glass & doesn't require touches to be effective. Look for him to make the active roster & possibly press for the 9th or 10th spot in the team's rotation. As for Jelani McCoy, he is expected to start on the IR & be there as insurance against injury.

After a whilwind week that saw 4 trades, 2 FA signings & about half of the Hornets' roster overhauled, Watson is likely going to stick pat & give the new & current guys a chance to gel.

------

That's all for today....check roster lineup at top of page or go to following url: http://www.nbaliveforums.com/sutra614985.php#614985

Yeah good trade, set up for the offseason, plus you get some instant help in Beno and a future hall of famer in Sean Marks :D

Arg... You traded Rasual Butler and I liked Jackson Vroman.

And gee, Sean Marks. Didn't see that one coming. :|

Delfino, Harvey and McCoy are my favourites of the trade. I remember when McCoy tore it up for the Raptors in the pre-season and summer leagues and was supposed to be their go-to big guy.. So much for that.

It sucks that you're playing on console and can't update the rosters... I would've loved to see Hilton Armstrong and Cedric Simmons in action.
