NBA PRESEASON
CHICAGO 75 NEW YORK 80
Scottie Pippen's Banner was raised before the Preseason Game against New York.
CHICAGO, IL (AP) - It was a emotional night at United Center last night as Scottie Pippen's number was retired and raised into the raftors of the building. There was not a dry eye in the whole house. "It was a great honor playing with Scottie," said former Bulls guard Michael Jordan. "we both dominated the court and it is great to see the credit he is getting for what he did."
With all the emotion in the building, the Bulls were able to pull off a win against the New York Knicks last night. Ben Gordon had a amazing night shooting over 60% from the field and over 45% from behind the arch.
In the 1st Quarter, New York put up a balanced attack by going inside against Tyson Chandler and getting him in early foul trouble. Eddy Curry had 13 for New York in the openning quarter while New York guards Stephon Marbury and Jamal Crawford combined for 19 points in the opening quarter. Chicago got off to a slow start but was able to recover with the sharp shooting of Ben Gordon to bring the Bulls within reaching distance of New York.
For the rest of the half, it was a totally different story. The Bulls came alive shooting 6-6 on Feild Goals along with Ben Gordon scoring 16 of his 38 in the 2nd Quarter. Even thought the Bulls made a huge effort in the 2nd Quarter, they found themselves down 48-46 at Half Time.
After Half Time, both teams brought every ounce of their defense holding eachother to under 30 points combined. Tyson was a beast picking up 5 Blocks alone in the 3rd Quarter.
Also, Ben Gordon kept up his sharp shooting and put the team on his back the whole 3rd Quarter and led them to a 5 point lead at the end of the 3rd Quarter.
Dispite Ben Gordon's 4th Quarter shooting troubles, the Bulls played their relentless defensive but still, found themselves in the middle of a 2 point battle with under 2 minutes left in the game. Unfortunately, Quinten Richardson hit 2 Threes Back-To-Back to give the Knicks a 4 point lead with 54.6 left in the game. The Bulls knew they had to do something or this game was over. They imbounded the ball to Ben Gordon who had shot well all night. He came down and hit a 3 pointer to make it a 74-73 game. From there on, the Knicks pulled away and picked up a victory.
Ben Gordon lead all scorers with 38 points. Followed by Knicks Guard Stephon Marburry with 19 and Jamal Crawford with 16.
