Man, he looks huge. I wonder if he'll be worth the risk at #4 for the Raptors. Grunwald sounds impressed. He's huge. a guy this big could be a big factor on any team, especially in the East, by rebounding and blocking shots alone. Did I mention he's HUGE?

I never heard about him before, but now I think that he is the BOMB, He mesures and weighs almost the same as Yao Ming but I dont think he is enough skilled like Yao, he wont make a much of an impact in his first 2 Years. But Still let's wait and see who the raps pick for the 4th pick :roll:

These kind of players only seem to bring up questions. Is he a soft 300 pounder? Or is he bulky? Can his knees handle it? and so on... but he's definately intriguing, and so young, probably worth the risk for a team like that Raps, I mean shit, he can't be worse than Montross!

Maybe if the Heat want Bosh, they could swing a trade a la Jamison / Carter and receive something in the process.
The Heat's #33 pick would be great. I'm not sure if they'd do this. Either Bosh or Pavel would be a good pick for the Heat too obviously.

7'5 295 who is agile, can handle & shoot the rock. wow.
but only 3 years of competitive ball. sounds like a risk to pick him at 4. but i would take him over bosh if i had the 4th pick anyway. i can't wait to see clips of this guy playing.

btw- paul pierce, you had some good points in the 'mock draft' thread, i do agree with some of them (especially the last one). maybe if that thread wasn't locked, i would have joined in that pissing match

i dont know, i think there is a certail size u go in the nba until u cant do certain things, like yao u saw this year, at 7'5 he cant take it too far in side coz as soon as he puts it on the foor there is a high chanse it will get stollen.

the guy is listed as 7'4 and his only 18!!!!! as they say u cant teach hight. there are a lot of big but unsertain guyz in the draft, i think it will be anouther shawn bradly question on him!!! coz raptors need a PG who can look for VC, but they also need a good C!!

I must confess, I also thought our own Pavel Rubin was the subject of this thread, which would have been funnier if the Jazz owned the fourth overall pick. :wink:

I think it would be a good investment for the Raptors. As Stevan said, he can't be any worse for them than Eric Montross - risky, but a risk that could really pay off.

just to have guy that size defending the middle would be a good asset.

at 7'5 295, he wouldnt have to do much dribbling to get to the bucket. he could easily get good post position on most centers in the nba, a la shaq.

Well, Stockton coming out of college was basically a nobody...

I'm iffy on Podkolzine...he's got size like Yao...but...he went from undrafted/second round to top ten in about a week or two...I wouldn't draft him at 4...but the Raptors have been prone to some stoopid decisions as of late...

I doubt he'd start, the Antonio Davis/Jerome Williams frontcourt would more than likely be better than him with either of them...especially since Williams doesn't push Davis out of the low post...I haven't seen that Podkolzine has a high post or mid-range game...an athletic forward with such would be better in my opinion...

True. And of course, there's no guarantee that an unknown talent with a lot of potential will actually become anything special. There's probably too many unrealistic expectations placed upon young players - rather than finding the proverbial "diamond in the rough", teams are seeking to create them.

High schoolers and low draft picks that show promise have caused lottery teams to seek out the underrated and sometimes unknown and take them with high picks, because there's a chance there'll be the next KG/Kobe/T-Mac (high schooler who makes college ball look unnecessary) or Emanuel Ginobili (low profile second rounder who turns out to be better than expected - in his rookie year, no less). Rather than make a safer pick, teams make a choice based on potential; that's no secret.

On the other hand, do you risk making a safe pick and watching the promising player you passed over develop into a player you could really use on your team? There's always going to be the player a team should have chosen, the "if the (insert year here) draft was held again today" talk, but if you have a gut feeling about a player, should you trust your instincts and take a chance?

Whichever way you go, you're going to leave one option behind. Another case of "damned if you do, damned if you don't" - I guess we'll see if any teams are willing to take a chance on Pavel come draft day.
