Wizards extend Heat's loosing streak to two.

[ Box Score ]

Washington, DC – The Wizards gave their fans all they expected after beating the Spurs on the road. Although Washington managed to defeat the Heat already in the preseason, this time they totally destroyed the Miami Heat, that is 0-2 due to a loss at Chicago on the opening night.

The Wizards came out big, shooting 80% for the first few minutes. After 2.30 of play Washington already had a comfortable 10-0 lead. The Heat managed to score a few after that as Shaquille O'Neal posted 6 points and 3 rebounds. The Wizards were led by their backcourt. Arenas scored 7, Butler 5 and both of them dished out 2 assists. Posey and Jeffries had a little competition going late in the period, as they scored all the points in the last two minutes. Jeffries had 6 and Posey 5 points as the Wizards closed out the quarter with a 28-13 lead.

The game slowed down and the difference stayed around 15 points. Jamison and O'Neal led their teams in scoring, both dominating down low. Washington fell asleep due to the slow tempo and Miami got the best out of it. Led by Walker's and Haslem's 5 points the Heat finished the half with an amazing 12-0 run. The Wizards held a close 44-40 lead. Jamison and O'Neal were the key players at the half, Antawn with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists, Shaq with 14 points and 7 boards.

Although the Heat tied the game at 46 they never managed to get the lead. Washington pushed the tempo and managed to go ahead by ten. Gilbert Arenas was running the forces: He scored 8 points and dished out 7 assists in the period. Jared Jeffries supported him with 6 points. Guards Gary Payton and Dwyane Wade led their team with 6 and 5 points as the Heat fell behind 72-60.

The trio of Arenas, Butler and Jamison withered Miami's attempts of a comeback in the last quarter. They combined for 23 of the teams' 31 fourth-quarter points and outran the Heat, although Wade and O'Neal gave their best to stop them. The Wizards were 10/11 from the freetrow line in the final period and deserved the 103-80 victory.

Arenas was once again the player of the game with 23 points, 12 assists and 2 steals as Jamison and Butler supported him with 20 points each. Jamison added 10 rebounds, while 9 of those were offensive. Although scoring just 4 points Brendan Haywood did a great job in the paint defensively – he grabbed 7 defensive boards and swatted 7 shots. Shaquille O'Neal ended up with 24 points and 12 rebounds as he was the best player for Miami.

GAME NOTES:
  • Brendan Haywood swatted away 7 shots, most of them in the third.
  • Antawn Jamison grabbed 9 offensive boards out of the team's 14.
  • Arenas had his 3rd 20-point and 10-assist game of the season.
  • Dwyane Wade was just 1/6 from the field in the first half
  • The Wizards had 9 more assists than the Heat.

Nice win against such a powerhouse team. You managed to hold 'em to 80 points and stop Walker, O'Neal or Wade from having a big game, so you played some pretty good defence. (Y)

 @ the Denver coach. Let's just hope he doesn't become a mini-Ben Wallace in the future.

November Round-Up

The first month of the 2005-2006 season has ended. While East has two big leaders, the situation is quite even in the Western Conference - we can't point out any standout teams there yet. Then again the bottom of the table is almost sure, some of the teams have been loosing a lot of games.

It seems that Phil Jackson's return to the League didn't turn out as well he intended. The Lakers are dead-last despite winning their first game of the season. Kobe Bryant broke a bone in his right wrist late in the game and is out until mid-December. The Lakers who had 9 games in November lost the other eight and are desperately waiting for the return of Kobe to try to bring the team anywhere near the playoffs.

The Milwaukee Bucks have just a win more than the Lakers and are holding the last spot in the East. The team hasn't played well at all although rookie Andrew Bogut has had a good start to his NBA career. The Bucks got themselves Jamal Magloire from the Hornets but he hasn't played for them yet. The problem is lack of bench - Bucks' substitutes have averaged just over 6 points per game and that's all together!

Another team falling to the pit is the Hornets. After relocating due to the natural disaster at New Orleans the team hasn't done much. Although Magloire averaged 24.7 points and 9.9 rebounds per game for the 7 games he played in Oklahoma City the team managed to win just the very first one. No with Magloire gone and Chris Paul not playing as good as hoped J.R. Smith is the only 20-point man, in fact the only guy scoring over 10 points per game for the Hornets. That just ain't enough.

For a change the East is holding the top places of the league this year. Last year's finalists, forcing the series to game seven have big intentions to win it all this season. Although Larry Brown left Detroit the thing have stayed pretty much the same: the starting five is carrying the whole team towards the playoffs. It may be all good for now, but will they have the strength to continue winning in the playoffs?

The biggest change after last season has happened in Cleveland. After bringing in Hughes and Marshall and resigning the Z the team looks stronger than ever. In fact Ilgauskas is averaging 24 points, 10 boards and 2 blocks per game this season. This guy has turned into a real superstar. Speaking of superstars, LeBron James is having his breakout season, although the stat-line looks pretty much the same. The thing is that the team is winning and the playoff spot is pretty much guaranteed.

No need to apologise, it's actually a very nice update. Underrated dynasty right here, I'm going to give small video clips a shot in my dynasty too, is that ok with you?

Washington Wizards Monthly

Despite the fact that Larry Hughes and some other role players, that lifted the Wizards to the second round of playoffs last year, have left the team, coach Eddie Jordan has managed to keep Washington among the top eight. And could you believe it, first in the Southeast Division, ahead of Orlando and Miami.

The Wizards started the season with an impressive 107-81 victory over the Utah Jazz and then defeated the last year playoff rival Chicago Bulls. All that is good can't last forever. Washington had to accept two road defeats at Detroit and Golden State and tied the reason record to 2-2. The next two were one of the most feared teams in the league: the Spurs and the Heat. The Wizards played great defense and Gilbert Arenas and Antawn Jamison carried the team on offense past both of the opponents. Washington finished November with a 4-2 record that gave them the lead in their division and the third place in the East, although they were just 14th in the first Power Rankings of the season.

The Wizards hold the top spot in Southeast and have a big win over the Heat.

The team has really played great offense, they rank 5th in the league in field goal percentage and average 100.7 points per game. Although the numbers look good, some of the new players haven't really reached their potential yet. Caron Butler who did great things in LA while Kobe was injured hasn't shown real consistency. He has had a few good ones and a few bad ones. Antonio Daniels hasn't found his shooting touch as well, he could help the team with a few more points every night. On the other hand Eddie Griffin, who has played just 3 games for the Wizards is already showing that he's a tremendous rebounder and can shoot the ball if he has to. But there's a long way until the end of the season so anything could happen.

Another great new is that rookie Andray Blatche who was shot before the beginning of the season is ready to suit up. He worked with the assistant coach through-out November and is ready to play on the NBA. We have sources saying that he'll already play against the Sixers on the 5th.

December will be another 4-game road trip for the Wizards. Washington is 2-2 on the road at the moment, hopefully it will change for the best.
