Rockets - Mavericks

Nowitzki Rocks; Not Enough

HOUSTON (AP) --- Dirk Nowitzki scored 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Dallas Mavericks but it wasn't enough as the Houston Rockets defeated Dirk's team, 108-105.

Houston outscored Dallas 34-27 in the fourth, with Tracy McGrady putting up 15 of his 23 points and three rebounds.

"I was in one of those zones," said McGrady, who was 3-of-3 on 3-pointers. "When I saw daylight, I was confident I was going to knock the shot down."

As we said, Nowitzki led the Mavericks in points and rebounds, but had an 17-minute scoreless drought over the middle two periods. Michael Finley (some sources said he will be waived under amnesty clause), posted 13 points in the fourth. He finished with 24.

Yao Ming added 23 points and 8 rebounds for Houston.

"They were making every shot. They had a real good rhythm and flow to their game," Mavs coach Avery Johnson said. "We didn't."

Bob Sura scored 19 points and 5 assists for the Rockets, when Luther Head posted 16 and 9.

"We've got a lot of shooters on this team," Head said. "That really stretches the defense out. The last two games, we've really had great chemistry."

Reggie Evans scored 2 points but had 10 rebounds.

Jason Terry and Darrell Armstrong had 19 and 11 points, respectively, for Dallas.

Jon Barry, Scott Padgett, Clarence Weatherspoon, Keith Van Horn and Alan Henderson didn't play for their teams.

Heart-Breaking Loss In Texas

HOUSTON (AP) --- Houston Rockets' Yao Ming scored 17 points but an Al Jefferson's free throw sealed a 91-92 loss against the Boston Celtics.

Jefferson covered Antoine Walker's (9 points, 4 rebounds) when this last player injured in the first quarter. Jefferson scored 7 points.

"Well it was luck," he said, who shot 1 free throw and it was the victory's one. "Doc (Rivers) trusted in me when Antoine got injured, and I thank him for that."

"The Celtics played best basketball. It was really hard, you can see how a free throw sealed the game," Jeff Van Gundy said.

Tracy McGrady had 16 points and 8 rebounds for Houston.

"They were hot tonight. They did a good job or working the pick-and-rolls and they were making shots," McGrady added.
