Rockets Make The First Trade in the Season
Today Rockets GM Shaun Callahan announced he has traded SG David Wesley and PG Charlie Ward to the Minnesota Timberwolves. In exchange, the Rockets have recieved C Ervin Johnson and SF Bobby Simmons.
"We think this is a very good trade. Wesley wasn't getting playing time, and Ward didnt play yet. We have to many points and shooting guards, and we really needed another SF." GM Shaun Callahan had to say that.
Wesley, who was averaging 3.1ppg, 1.2rpg, and 1.2apg only played 9.5 mpg. Ward, never played a game this year. On the other hand, Bobby Simmons has averaged 9ppg, 0.3rpg, and 1.2 apg in only 19.5mpg. And Johnson hasnt plaed a game either.
Coach Van Gundy says
"I think it was a smart move. Now McGrady can move to the 2 spot and basically, dominate. Hes 6'8" for a SF he was dominating. But now at the 2 spot he will take it to another level I think. Simmons on the other hand, I think he has loads of potential. He needs the right coach. I think I can help him alot, and so cant Shaun (Callahan)."
GM Shaun Callahan was asked about Ervin Johnsons playing time he said
"Well, we will probally waive him. He wont be getting playing time, and he was part of the deal so salary would match."
