bullsfan --

Trust me, those characters on the Wizards knew the true hierarchy in DC. Power's not established by the title, but by the imprint. In that lockerroom, the unassailable pecking order was as follows:

1) Mike Jordan
2) Charles Oakley
3) Doug Collins

Collins owed his job to Jordan. Remember, Mike fired Leonard Hamilton after 2000-01, then hired Northbrook's own Doug Collins only when Mike himself allowed Abe Pollins and Ted Leonis to connive him into donning their uniform. Then Mike brought in his personal bodyguard from the West Side days, big Oak Tree. The only thing Jordan forgot was that, in the larger organizational hierarchy, he was far below Old Abe. There's always an owner, always a master, always someone whom you owe, even when your name is Michael Jordan.

Sad, sick, unfortunate reality. Bullsfan, great work. Keep keeping it real (and substantial), my friend. Great stuff.

Thanks for the comps., everyone  (I was beginning to think that it was just mortalsoul3, COOLmac, and alexboom who had seen this thread).

I know you guys want pics, but this is my first season I've ever posted, and I think it's going well without them. As I said before, I'm trying to keep the content good enough so that you don't need pics, and just enjoy reading. VMS is right, but that doesn't mean that I can't try to make it work as is. (And look at Andrew's Live 2005 Bulls Dynasty- no pics, yet it's at like 4 or 5 pages)

mortalsoul3- About the Wizards, I know you're right, but it's a sad thing. :| How can a team succeed if it doesn't even have respect for its coach? Great talking to you, as usual. 8-)

I'm going to do a lot over the weekend, and post majorly on Monday. (Y) I'm in the middle of a game against the Celtics right now at home (Hinrich is snappin') (good old in-game saves :) ). Also, I'm probably going to make some trades, too, so have a good weekend everyone, and stay tuned.

yeah i notice that too in the wizards when Jordan was there.. they all lokk like thugs with Mj as their granddaddy. and doug acted like he was scared of him.......many times i noticed that MJ would just stand up and approached the scorers table to get back into the game.....which suprises me. i think the coach has to call you back in.not present yourself back in.....well that was history now....a good read even without the pics bullsfan...very good read indeed (Y)

This is partially why the Wizards failed to make the playoffs in either of Jordan's culminating seasons, why they allowed lesser teams such as Indiana (02) & Milwaukee (03) to sneak by in the Eastern Conference despite the Wiz's comparable -- if not superior -- talent & depth. Lack of respect for the prescribed leadership, and lack of respect for the collective.

Remember that as your Live 2000 season proceeds, my friend.

-the season continues-

BOS 143, CHI 133 (2 O.T.)
Celtics Prevail in Shootout-Paul Pierce, Antoine Walker Each Drop 40+ on Bulls

CHICAGO- The Bulls scored 133 points last night. Kirk Hinrich scored a career-high 42 points, shooting a scorching 58% from the field (19-33). Ben Gordon, all 6’2” or so of him, grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds, more than either of the Bulls’ twin towers, Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler.
Yet, despite all of this, the Bulls lost their third straight game. Why? Just ask coach Scott Skiles: “Why did we lose? Well, anytime a team scores 143 points on you, you’re going to lose unless you’re absolutely on a tear shooting the basketball, I’m talking about on fire.”
Yes, the Boston Celtics came into the United Center and dropped 143 points in what was the second double-overtime game for the Bulls in their last 4 contests. Paul Pierce had a game-high 43 points, shooting over 50% from the field and hitting 5 three-pointers. His running mate Antoine Walker lit up Tyson Chandler for 40 points. In the end, it was the Pierce-Walker combo that carried the Celtics to victory in the second overtime- they were both on fire, and simply couldn’t miss.
The only reason the Bulls even found themselves playing into a double-overtime was due to the break-out performance of Hinrich, who said, “Yeah, I was feeling it tonight, I was in the zone for the whole game, but still it wasn’t enough. I don’t know what we have to do to get back on track here…” Hinrich hit a clutch 10-foot jumper in the lane with 0.5 seconds left and the Bulls down by 2, which sent the game into its first O.T.
However, Hinrich had 7 turnovers to his 9 assists, compared to Boston’s starting PG Gary Payton who had 19 assists vs. 4 turnovers. This was a large factor in determining the Bulls loss, along with three-point shooting, which remains an Achilles heal of the Bulls. Boston was a smoking 12-23 from distance, compared to an average 6-19 for Chicago.

GAME NOTES

The Bulls fell to 6-7 on the season, the first time they’ve had a losing record since dropping their home opener to the New Jersey Nets.

The Bulls are now 3-7 in games in which they’ve led or tied at the end of the first quarter of play.

GAME 14

WAS 92, CHI 89
Too Little, Too Late-Bulls Rally From 19 Point Deficit, But Lack Clutch Shooting

CHICAGO- The Bulls are struggling. They lost their fourth straight game last night at home against the Washington Wizards, and their record fell to 6-8 overall, and a miserable 2-7 at home.
It looked to be an embarrassing blowout loss after the Wizards outscored the Bulls 25-8 in the second quarter to take a 50-31 lead at halftime. However, the Bulls bounced back and fought hard in the third, thanks to the solid play of Eddy Curry and Ben Gordon. Trailing by just 5 going into the final period, and riding a wave of momentum from their play and from the energized home crowd, the Bulls hoped to finally get back on a winning track.
Kirk Hinrich started off hot in the fourth, taking the ball to the basket without fear or hesitation. He sparked a small Bulls run that momentarily gave them the lead with 8:00 left in the game. Unfortunately, “momentarily” is the key word. Washington didn’t back down, and managed to keep a small lead from that point on. When the Bulls took a one-point lead with 1:45 left on a Ben Gordon layup, Gilbert Arenas immediately nailed a three pointer from the top of the arc to put the Wizards up two again.
“In the end, we didn’t make the big, clutch plays that were necessary to pull out a victory tonight- on both sides of the ball. There were some key baskets that didn’t fall for us, and some key baskets that fell for them. It was a tough loss,” Bulls coach Scott Skiles remarked.

GAME NOTES

The Bulls may have suffered from a shooting “jet-lag” after scoring a (by far) season-high 133 points in their last game against the Celtics. They shot a dismal 36.5% overall, 19% from three-point range, and the bench was a combined 5-28 from the field. Their 89 points was an amazing 44 points less this game.

Eddy Curry set a career-high with 7 assists on the night. “I kept finding Ben [Gordon] open in the corner in the 3rd quarter, and you got to give him the credit, he was knocking his shots down.”

The Bulls tied a season-low by committing just 8 turnovers.

bullsfan --

Try pulling a Rick Carlisle/Jeff van Gundy on these Bulls and control the tempo . . . focus on precision execution through Curry in the post. Controlling offensive tempo and getting good shots will also put your team in a better position to defend.

Seems as if your created Bulls are a near exact version of the real deal Baby Bulls. Thus, remember, they're still teething, and they still desperately need their overbearing coach.

Great work.

And now, my first transaction of the season!

BREAKING NEWS: The Chicago Bulls trade Ben Gordon (17.9 ppg) and Tyson Chandler (9.7 rpg) to the Miami Heat for Dwyane Wade (22.3 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 6.7 apg) and Jerome Beasley (3.8 ppg).

Bulls GM John Paxon: "Well, we were struggling as a team, and we inquired about the availability of Wade and others. Obviously, we gave up a lot in Tyson and Ben, two up-and-coming players in this league, and one the highest-scoring rookie in the NBA. Miami certainly knew what they were doing, I mean, look at their starting lineup now: Shaq, Tyson, Eddie Jones, Ben, and Damon Jones. But we feel we've got a legitimate superstar here in Dwyane Wade."

Dwyane Wade: "At first I was surprised by the trade, but I'm already getting very excited about returning to my home city and playing for the team I grew up rooting for. It's going to be fun, and I like their team. I have a feeling we're going to go far, even this year..."

Ben Gordon: Chicago doesn't know what they're losing. :scold: They did pick up a great player in Wade, but they lost a future multi-all-star. Miami, I'm coming south and you'll never regret it. :) "

Bulls Coach Scott Skiles: "We got Dwyane Wade, 'nuff said! Now if you'll excuse me, I got to run home and rewrite my playbook!" :proud: :cheeky:

My new starting lineup is:
Eddy Curry
Orthella Harrington
Luol Deng
Dwyane Wade
Kirk Hinrich

Reasons for the trade: I want to win a championship this season, and didn't feel I had the right mix to do it. There was no leader on the team- Hinrich was too inconsistent to be the one, and really, everyone was. The reason the Detroit Pistons in the real NBA won it last year without a definite superstar/leader is because they played incredible defense, and I had three average-to-below average defenders in my starting lineup (Curry, Deng, Gordon). Bringing in Wade gives the Bulls a whole different element, versatility, and potential. Now, I have a guy who can dominate games on either side of the ball, and is a great passer and playmaker, too. Not many others who can do that (LeBron, AI, KG, anyone else? :? )

I decided not to go for Michael Redd because he's basically a bigger Ben Gordon. And, since Redd's rating was about the same as Wade's, I would have had to give up a great defender in Chandler, plus Gordon, to get a bigger (and better, yes) version of Ben. It wasn't worth it.

I do have a couple of worries, though, that might turn into problems that will need to be addressed later:
-Lack of three-point shooting with Ben Gordon gone
-Lack of interior defense with my best big-man defender gone- Tyson Chandler.

For these not to turn into major problems, two guys need to step up: Kirk Hinrich (particularly his shooting), and Eddy Curry (particularly, his rebounding and shot-blocking). I'll be watching them very closely, but I'm not worried b/c they both are very talented and also, the addition of Wade (who is absolutely everywhere on the court) will only make their jobs easier.

We'll see how it works out... :)

GAME 15

CHI 106, ORL 99
Wade Welcoming Party-Newest Chicago Bull Key in Victory

CHICAGO-After the Chicago Bulls traded their defensive ace Tyson Chandler and rookie sensation Ben Gordon for Dwyane Wade and Jerome Beasley of the Miami Heat, there was a lot of uncertainty. Could Wade lead this struggling team to the playoffs, or even further? Would Chandler’s absence down low make the Bulls a weak defensive team?
If it is true that winning cures all, then it appears that upper management made a great move.
The Bulls defeated the Orlando Magic last night to snap their 4 game losing streak, and Wade played a very well all-around game. His first basket as a Chicago Bull came in dramatic fashion- a resounding one-handed dunk in the paint that set off the United Center crowd. Wade also had several critical rebounds and assists in the closing minutes that helped the Bulls to victory, and displayed his versatility by playing both guard spots at times.
Coach Scott Skiles doesn’t give out praise freely or easily, but said this about Wade, “He’s a special kid. Very talented, very mature, and composed under pressure. I thought he played great tonight, didn’t force too much, and complimented our guys well.”
This game was close throughout, with no team being able to put the other away. The Magic were led in scoring by guard Steve Francis, with 23 points, and in rebounding by their sensational rookie Dwight Howard, who grabbed 11 boards to go with his 13 points.
There were many indications of a very different Bulls team on the floor last night, despite just two players being different. Chicago shot just 3 3-pointers, making one of them. The Bulls had been averaging over 10 attempts per game from downtown, even though they were shooting a low percentage. Also, the team shot a season-high 24 free throws in the game. They made 23 of them, and Wade was the individual leader with his 6-6 mark from the line.
Though one game cannot be considered a trend or even a change, one day after the new Bulls hit floor, so far, so good.

GAME NOTES

Ben Gordon had 25 points in his first game with the Heat, a 20-point blowout victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

GAME 16

CHI 101, G.S. 100
Bulls Defeat Warriors- Manage to Hang On After Blowing Halftime Lead

CHICAGO- The Bulls survived a fierce second-half surge by the Golden State Warriors to climb back to .500 (8-8) and improve to 2-0 with Dwyane Wade.
Wade was again very versatile on the offensive end, but didn’t have an answer for Warriors star Jason Richardson. “I was trying everything, but that man can flat-out score. I don’t remember him missing many shots out there.” Richardson didn’t; he made 14 of his 19 field goal attempts (74%!), and scored 34 points.
The Bulls took a 9 point lead into halftime, and were feeling good about themselves and their play. They shot a blistering 57% in the 2nd quarter, scoring 32 points. But in the third, the Warriors showed pride in front of their home court. They combined tough defense, good offensive execution, and a 6-7 shooting effort from Richardson to outscore the Bulls 30-19 in the third period.
Coach Scott Skiles decided to make a tactical change for the fourth quarter, as he felt the momentum had turned against him and Golden State. “I thought we could control the momentum, and the tempo by throwing it into our big guys in the fourth.”
That’s just what the Bulls did. They repeatedly fed Eddy Curry in the block, or Orthella Harrington as a second option. Curry dominated, compiling an array of hook shots, short jumpers, and thunderous dunks on any who dared to try to guard him. The strategy worked, and the Bulls were able to escape with a 1-point victory.

GAME NOTES

Kirk Hinrich, who has really struggled shooting three-pointers this season, started off this game on a promising note. He was 2-2 from long-range in the first quarter. However, he shot 0-5 the rest of the way from 3 en route to a 2-7 mark for the night.

Orthella Harrington has done as a replacement for Tyson Chandler as the Bulls starting power forward after the trade. Although he hasn’t had the defensive presence and shot-blocking numbers, he’s averaged 12.5 points and 11 rebounds per game in two games.

GAME 17

CHI 97, CLE 85
Textbook Victory- Strong Defense + 7 Players Score in Double Figures = “W”

CHICAGO- It was a coach’s dream: holding the opposition to 40% shooting, having 7 players score in double figures, and winning by double-figures on the road. That’s what the Bulls did last night against the Cleveland Cavs, and Scott Skiles was very pleased: “I really liked our effort tonight. We played some very rough defense down low, and Kirk and Dwyane were ball-hawking the Cavs’ guards all game long. They were never able to get into a rhythm- that was key for us.”
Eddy Curry had the opposite of his usual night- dominating defensively and struggling offensively. He pulled down 13 tough rebounds and blocked 2 shots in the paint. More importantly, he held 7’3” big man Zydrunas Ilgauskas to just 12 points and 6 rebounds for the night. “Z,” though, did do a good job on Curry- holding him to 5-18 shooting (28%).
The Cavs’ franchise player, LeBron James, started off the game hot with 11 points in the first quarter, but really cooled off after that. He finished with 19 points on just 8-26 shooting, and was 2-7 from downtown. The game would have been downright ugly for the Cavs if not for a solid performance off the bench from their rookie forward Luke Jackson. Jackson came out firing, shooting 5-8 in the game, 3-4 from three-point land, and scoring 13 points in just 10 minutes of action.
The Bulls had their own surprise sparkplug off the bench, though, in rarely-used third-string point guard Jannero Pargo. Skiles gave Pargo a chance in the second quarter with Chris Duhon struggling, and didn’t regret it. Pargo went 5-7 in the quarter shooting, and by game’s end had tallied (by far) a season-high 14 points.
Yes, the Bulls got a little bit of everything working against Cleveland, and it paid off in the form of a nice victory.

GAME NOTES

Orthella Harrington is 3-for-3: three games started since the trade for Wade & Beasley, three double doubles. He had 13-10 against the Cavs.

Kirk Hinrich played very efficient basketball for the Bulls yesterday. He scored 16 points on 6-9 FGs, had 8 assists, and just 2 turnovers. He also had 3 steals in the game.

I don't know what's up with the selection process (Shaq's averaging 24 ppg, AI's leading the league in scoring, etc...), but this should still be a fun game. I'm glad Eddy and Kirk got in to represent the Bulls. I'll post a recap when I'm done.

 I'm going to try to get a triple-double and the MVP with LeBron, and hit like 10 threes with Redd off the bench :cheeky:

ALL-STAR GAME

EAST 115, WEST 113
The Michael Redd Show -Bucks Star Puts on a Shooting Clinic, Earns MVP

DENVER- Michael Redd can shoot. If there were any questions about how well he could shoot, those were put to rest after the spectacular show he put on in front of a national audience in the NBA All-Star game. Redd scored 41 points, on 17-20 shooting. That’s not a typo- he shot 85% from the field! And, on top of that, he was 7-7 from three-point range- stepping back and burying trey after trey regardless of whoever was guarding him.
“I’ve never seen a shooting display like that before,” Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich said. “At least, not in a game.”
The Eastern All-Stars needed all of Redd’s points to counter Kobe Bryant’s 36 points for the West. Kobe hit 6 threes of his own, although it took him 14 attempts to get them. Kobe and Redd put on a shooting show for the delighted crowd in the third quarter, when Kobe went 6-12 for 14 points, and Redd went 4-5 (with 2 three-pointers) for 10 points.
In the fourth, the game got close, and typical of all-star games, the teams finally decided to buckle down a play some defense. With the game tied at 110, and 24 seconds left, Redd ran off of a screen, got open on the baseline, caught a pass and buried a three pointer. That put the East up 113-110. Bryant tried to answer with a three of his own, but it rimmed off, and the East pulled out the victory in the end.
There were two Bulls playing in the contest: Kirk Hinrich and Eddy Curry. Both fared well: Kirk had 5 points and 3 assists, and Curry scored 8 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Hinrich’s fellow sophomore phenom LeBron James had a great all-around game, scoring 14 points, grabbing 6 rebounds, and dishing out a team-high 9 assists.
Western Coach Flip Saunders commented on the game: “It’s nice to coach a game like this: when I want to make a substitution, I look down my bench and say, “Hmmm, who do I have here?” And I see sitting there Steve Nash, Manu Ginobili, Lamar Odom, Amare Stoudamire, etc. It’s like a dream. :D The only bad part is looking at the opposing team’s roster, and seeing that your team is playing against LeBron, Pierce, Redd, O’Neal, and the other bright superstars of this game.”
Eastern Coach Larry Brown added, “I think the league has got a lot to be excited about, some of the new talent is very exciting. Some of these first-time all-stars, like LeBron James, Kirk Hinrich, Eddy Curry, Emeka Okafor, Manu Ginobili- these guys are special players who will be around for a long time.”

GAME 18

CHI 88, PHI 86
Playing With Pride-Down In the Game, the Bulls Don’t Get Down on Themselves

PHILADELPHIA- Twice in this game, the Bulls could have thrown in the towel, given up. They had 15 points and the lead with 4:00 left in the first quarter, but only scored 2 points the rest of the period. Kirk Hinrich watched Allen Iverson hit a 25-footer at the buzzer, such were things going for the Bulls. They trailed 25-17, a deficit that grew to 29-17 in the early minutes of the second quarter. Color commentator Reggie Theus remarked at that point, “They’re [the 76ers] tearing them apart!”
No, but the Bulls didn’t give up there. Andres Nocioni made it his personal mission to make sure of that, as he abused Kyle Korver in the post and on the perimeter, scoring 8 points and grabbing 3 rebounds in the span of about 5 minutes. Chris Duhon played stifling defense, forcing offensive fouls and turnovers, while hitting both of his shots from the field. So even though the tandom of Iverson and Chris Webber combined for 25 points, the Bulls trailed by just 1 point at the half: 42-41.
The second time the Bulls could have, but didn’t hang their heads was after the 3rd quarter. Phili dominated just like in the first, with Iverson blowing by people left and right, and nailing jumpers from everywhere. The Bulls had no answer for “The Answer,” who went 7-11 in the period and once again hit a desperation 25-footer at the buzzer. The Bulls found themselves down 11 points, on the road, heading into the 4th quarter.
No, but the Bulls didn’t quit that time, either. “We play with pride,” Dwyane Wade said. Coach Scott Skiles decided to put the ball in Wade’s hands in the fourth, to let him create offense for himself and the team. It worked out well, as he was wheeling-and-dealing, and driving-and-dishing all over the court. Hinrich and Luol Deng both got hot, and Wade kept them that way with plenty of good looks at the basket. The two combined for 17 points on 7-9 shooting in the quarter.
AI, trying to hold off the Bulls rally, was fouled while attempting a 3-pointer with 27 seconds left in the game, and the Bulls leading 86-85. He missed the first two free throws, and hit the third, tying up the game at 86. But Wade went down, beat his man, and swished a 10-foot baseline jumper with 12 sec. left. The Bulls protected that 88-86 lead on the last play, when Webber’s jumper was stuffed by Eddy Curry.

GAME NOTES
The Bulls outrebounded the 76ers by 48-30, a huge margin.

Allen Iverson and Chris Webber scored 62% of their team’s points: 53 of Philadelphia’s 86. “I can’t do it alone,” AI said.

The Bulls played without backup Eric Piatkowski, who is expected to miss 7 games due to injuries sustained from a fall in his house.

It was a great win by the Bulls, who are playing with a whole new confidence after the trade for Dwayne Wade. They are 4-0 with “Flash,” and have improved their record to 10-8.

GAME 19

MIL 96, CHI 92
Bulls Still Can’t Win at Home- Hinrich Triple-Double Can’t Overcome Bucks, Redd

CHICAGO- Is there such a thing as home court disadvantage? Because, last night the Bulls were beaten by the Milwaukee Bucks at the United Center, dropping their home record to 3-7 for the season. Almost always in pro sports, the home team fares better at home, and for good reason: the get to sleep in their own beds, the crowd is friendly and provides support and energy, and there is generally an overall comfort level not felt on the road.
“I don’t know what it is,” Bulls Coach Scott Skiles said, “but it’s not good knowing that teams come in here feeling that they can beat us. There’s no excuses, though- tonight we lost to a Bucks team that fought hard, and played smart.”
Milwaukee played solid defense against the Bulls, forcing 21 turnovers, including 8 when it meant the most: in the fourth quarter. Joe Smith grabbed 15 rebounds, and reserve Zaur Pachulia came off the bench to hurt the Bulls with 10 points and 8 rebounds. The Bucks’ leader and All-Star MVP Michael Redd continued to shoot extremely well, scoring 33 points on 65% shooting. Including a 3-4 mark from three-point territory.
All of this spoiled a great game from Bulls All-Star guard Kirk Hinrich. Hinrich recorded his second career triple double, with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.
Maybe the problem is the Bulls feel a little too comfortable at home. “We were really careless with the ball tonight. It’s hard to get in any rhythm or establish any momentum when you’re turning in over left and right,” Hinrich said. “Believe me, a triple-double is a great thing because it means you’re helping your team in more than one way, but I’d rather get a “W”.”

GAME NOTES

Hinrich took 12 shots in the fourth quarter alone; Dwyane Wade attempted 12 in the entire game. After the game, Skiles expressed his desire to get Wade some more attempts. Wade hasn’t been absent offensively, though- he still racks up lots of assists which result from his strong drives to the basket.

Eddy Curry has endured a 3-game shooting slump, going 17-54 over that stretch (31.4%). His rebounding has been excellent, however: he’s averaged over 11 per game in the last 3 games.
