Wade Stars In Opener
[Heat Boxscore][Blazers Boxscore]

Miami, Oct 28 The Miami Heat opened their 04-05 season with a bang as the second year player Dwyane Wade outshined the 12 year vet Shaquille Oneal. Wade hit the game winning jumper at the buzzer to defeat the visiting Blazers 99-92.

Wade finished with a team-high 31 points and dished out 9 assists to lead the Heat. Shaq scored 24 and and pulled down 13 boards.

For the Blazers Van Exel scored 34 on 6-12 from behind the arc. While Zach Randolph was held in check with just 13 points.

Said Wade of the game winning shot, "It was a great look and I was very confident it was going in because I worked hard on my shot during the offseason. I was relieved to see it go in because I felt i let my team down on defense letting Nick score like he did.

The next game for the Heat will be against the Chicago Bulls.

Rasual Butler goes in for two of his 13 points. Said Butler of being the starter: "Im very excited to finally get a shot at being the ful time starter and I wil continue to show the coaches that I deserve to be in the lineup"

CLEVELAND 119, MIAMI 117
JAMES, CAVS HOLD OFF HEAT

MIAMI, Nov. 1 The Cleveland Cavaliers were able to hold off the Heat in fourth. The Cavs came out hot in the first leading by 13 after one, 38-25. The Heat struggled to keep up but managed to make an impressive run going into the fourth tied, 93-93. But Lebron James and the Cavs managed to build another lead and despite the efforts of Damon Jones who scored 8 consecutive points late to bring the Heat within two Cleveland was able to hold on for the 119-117 win.

The Cavs were led by their young superstar Lebron James who scored 30 and Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored 24 to go along with his 12 rebounds. Drew Gooden paced them with a double-double of his own, 13 points and 14 rebounds.

James said: “This was a key win for us. We beat a very good team in our conference and I was able to help my team by contributing offensively.”

Sophomore sensation Dwyane Wade had a career night dishing 16 assist but not enough were to the big man inside, Shaquille O’Neal who scored just 18 points but grabbed 14 rebounds. Damon Jones came up big in crunch time and finished with 24. Wade scored 27 but it wasn’t enough.

The 2-1 Heat will face the new look New Jersey Nets on Tue, Nov 4

MIAMI 97, NEW JERSEY 95
HEAT SNEAKS BY NETS

MIAMI, Nov.4 The Heat were able to sneak by the Nets 97-95 in what was a close game throughout. The win came at a price for the Heat who lost starting power forward Udonis Haslem for 10 days with a sprained elbow. The injury occurred late in the fourth as Haslem collided with Jarron Collins pulling down his 12th rebound. Haslem had been playing well averaging 7.5 points and 11 rebounds through the first four games.

The Heat looked methodical on offense but got 19 points 9 assists and 18 points 19 rebounds form Wade and O’Neal respectively. Damon Jones and Eddie Jones added 14 and 17 each.

The Nets got very good contributions from Vince Carter (22) and Jason Kidd (22-7-7).

MIAMI, Nov. 7 The Miami Heat started hot and just got hotter as the game went on. The Heat led by as many as 23 before settling for a 18 point victory. They are now 4-1.

Miami was able to bench their starters early in the third and every active player played. Shaquilled O’Neal led the way with 17 points, he also grabbed 6 rebounds. Eddie Jones and Damon Jones scored 16 and 14 each while Dwyane Wade scored 11 points and played just 21 minutes. (He also had a season low 2 assists). Oft injured Baron Davis scored 21 to lead the Hornets who played without center Jamal Magloire. Rookie J.R. Smith tallied 16 points.

Said Van Gundy of his team performance: " We were able to get easy baskets in transition and got great production from the second unit."

Up Next for Miami, the defending world champion Pistons.

DETROIT 79, MIAMI 70
PISTONS D UP HEAT

MIAMI, Nov. 8 The Detroit Pistons played their usual great defense and stifled the Miami Heat for a 79-70 victory to improve to 2-3. Despite their slow start this season the Pistons showed why they were the defending champs. The Pistons allowed just 15 points in the first quarter but managed to only score 14 themselves. At half time the Heat held to a 40-33 lead and heading into the fourth Detroit led by two, 54-52. Their great defense kept them in the game but in the fourth it was the offense that put them ahead.

Van Gundy assesses the loss: “ We weren’t able to get on the break and credit Detroit for playing great defense on Shaq and not letting Dwyane penetrate. Its still early in the season and there are a lot of things we have to get better at.”

Rasheed Wallace scored 12 of his 25 points in the fourth to lead the Pistons. He also pulled down 10 boards. Rip Hamilton added 15 and Billups 13.

Miami had trouble scoring throughout the whole game and were unable to execute late. Dwyane Wade was the team leader with 16 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Shaq added just 12 and 9 rebounds. EJ (11), DJ (8), and Allen had a double-double (10 points and 12 rebounds).

The 4-2 HEAT will host Philly, Nov.9 at 7 pm.

Shaq’s 12 points were not enough.

PHILADELPHIA 89, MIAMI 86
HEAT DROPS SECOND IN A ROW
MIAMI, Nov. 9 The Miami Heat lost for the second time in two days. Fresh from losing in Detroit the Heat drop a close one to the Sixers.

Allen Iverson had a slow night with just 21 points but big games by Kenny Thomas and rookie Andre Iguodala helped Philly reach .500, they are 3-3.

The Heat’s top performers continue to be Dwyane Wade (17 points) and Shaquille O’Neal (19 points, 7 rebounds) who got very little help from the supporting cast. Eddie Jones (4 points, 34 minutes) and Malik Allen (5 points, 24 minutes) just didn’t show up.

The Heat also lost Shandon Anderson in the second. He is expected to miss 4 weeks with a sprained toe. The loss drops Miami to 4-3 and will face the Magic, Tuesday, Nov.11

MIAMI 95, ORLANDO 88
WADE, HEAT HANDLE MAGIC

MIAMI, Nov. 11 Van Gundy's team had no answer for the Magic's speed and accuracy in the first quarter as Orlando jumped to an early 26-17 lead after one. But the Heat adjusted on defense and got within four at half time trailing 44-40. The rest of the game was close but the Heat were able to execute in the fourth for a 95-88 victory.

Wade (21 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists) and Shaq (22 and 10) led Miami to their fifth victory this season.

For Orlando Steve Francis put up 22-7-7 and No.1 overall pick Dwight Howard score 12.

Next game: Nov.15 versus the (8-3) Sacramento Kings at the American Airlines Arena.

SACRAMENTO 126, MIAMI 124
MIAMI LOSSES THRILLER

MIAMI, Nov. 15 The high scoring Sacramento Kings got away with a two-point win defeating the Heat 126-124 in overtime.

A huge night from Dwyane Wade who scored all 47 of his points in the second half and overtime after being held scoreless through the first two quarters weren’t enough for Miami. Wade shot 19 for 29 from the field and 9 of 10 from the stripe. He also added 6 rebounds and 6 assists.

It was the first 40-plus point performance by a Heat player since Alonzo Mourning had 43 against New Jersey on February 23, 2000.

Wade’s two free throws with 2 seconds to go tied the game at 110-110 to send it into overtime but the Heat could handle C-Webb and the Kings. Webber scored 32 and Peja added 29.

For Miami, Shaquille O’Neal who left the game with 2 minutes to go in regulation with an injury scored 22 and grabbed 11 rebounds.

O’Neal is expected to play against the Trail Blazers tomorrow.

HEAT NOTEBOOK
HASLEM RETURNS, ANDERSON PLACED ON IR

PORTLAND 81, MIAMI 80
HEAT LOSE AGAIN

MIAMI, Nov. 16 The Portland Trailblazers withstood a fourth quarter comeback by the Heat who outscored Portland 31-9 in the final period. But Shaquille O’Neal couldn’t force overtime as he hit just one of his two free throws with .3 seconds left in regulation. The Heat trailed for most of the game after leading 19-16 going into the 2nd. Portland then took over, as they looked poised for the rout winning 48-35 at halftime and 72-49 after three.

Van Gundy: “In Shaq’s defense we should have to rely on his free throws to win the game or go into overtime. It is unfortunate that he was the one at the line but we really did deserve to lose this game because we played horrible for the majority of three quarters.”

O’Neal, who wasn’t 100% after being injured in last nights game against Sacramento, scored 19 and grabbed just 8 rebounds. Dwyane Wade was the high score with 25 points, 10 rebounds and 5 rebounds. Udonis Haslem scored 10 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in his first game back from the IR.

For Portland, Zach Randolph recorded 19 points and 10 rebounds. Derek Anderson added 16.

The (5-5) Heat who continue to get little production from starters Eddie Jones (4 points) and Rasual Butler (5 points) will face Detroit on Tuesday, Nov. 18. in Motown.

HEAT NOTEBOOK
VAN GUNDY PLANS TO MIX UP STARTING LINEUP

DETROIT, Nov. 17 Heat coach Stan Van Gundy said today during practice that he is considering changing the starting lineup for tomorrow’s game against the Pistons. Van Gundy added that he will be tinkering with the starting line-up to get better production from the starting guards and forwards. “I want the guards to produce a little more, I think Dwyane Wade is carrying too much of the offensive load and hopefully the change will help us off the bench. We are 5-5 and I think now is a better time than ever to make a change because it is still early in the season.”

The expected change is moving back-up point guard Damon Jones to the starting lineup and moving Wade to shooting guard. Eddie Jones who has struggled with his offense will start at small forward. This moves Rasual Butler to the bench because of his inconsistency and weak defense.

The Heat will put these changes to the test against the defending world champs Detroit Pistons tomorrow who the Heat already lost to once, 79-70 on Nov. 8

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MIAMI 92, DETROIT 87
LINEUP SHAKE-UP RESULTS IN WIN

DETROIT, Nov. 18 The Miami Heat made some changes to their starting lineups and the gamble paid off. Miami held on to beat Detroit 92-87. Damon Jones, now the starting point guard, scored 12 points and dished out 6 assists and effectively took some pressure off of Dwyane Wade who was able to create opportunities without having the ball in his hands all the time. Wade finished with 21 points and 8 assists.

For Miami O’Neal added 20 and 15, Eddie Jones scored 15 and Haslem contributed 11 and 8. Rasual Butler who was benched as a result of the shake-up scored just 2 points in 14 minutes.

Detroit got 28 from Chauncey Billups and 19 from Tayshaun Prince. Eddie Jones held Rip Hamilton to just 11 points on 3 of 11 shooting.

Miami return back home to host the Washington Wizards on Nov 19

MIAMI 96, PHILADELPHIA 86
HEAT WIN THIRD STRAIGHT

MIAMI, Nov. 20 The Philadelphia were able to keep up with the newly energized Heat for ¾ of the game but without Allen Iverson for most of the second half Miami was able to build a large lead and held on for a 96-86 win, their third straight.

The Heat continued to get good production from O’Neal (21 and 12), Wade (20), Eddie (17), Butler (12) and Damon (11).

Allen Iverson shut down by Dwyane Wade and Eddie Jones who held the star guard to just 8 points on 4-14 shooting. Iverson played just 21 minutes because of foul trouble.

The Heat will face Detroit for the third time this season on Nov. 25 in Miami. The season series is tied 1-1.

MIAMI 101, DETROIT 96
HEAT BEAT STRUGGLING PISTONS

MIAMI, Nov. 25 Miami continues to win. They beat the struggling Detroit Pistons 101-96 for their fourth straight victory. The Pistons, who won the championship last June, dropped to an unimpressive 3-9 record.

Miami was able to control the tempo and took Hamilton out of his game. Rip finished with just 12 points and like Iverson before him was held to 4 of 14 shooting. Sheed scored 22 for Detroit who also got 19 from Prince. Billups had just 10 points to go along with his 10 assists.

The Heat were led by Wade (24) and O’Neal's scoring (20, Shaq also grabbed 9 boards) but the player of the game was Keyon Dooling who locked down Billups and filled the stat sheet with 13 points, 3 rebounds, 9 assists, and 5 steals. Damon Jones added 11 and Haslem had a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. EJ had just 5 points.

Miami will take their four game win streak to Boston where they will play the Celtics on Nov. 27

CELTICS SNAP HEAT WINNING STREAK

MIAMI, Nov. 27 The Celtics were able to outscore the Heat in overtime to snap Miami’s four game win streak. Boston turned up the offense in the third and forced the Heat to keep up. After three Miami trailed 81-73 and at the end of regulation the score was tied 101-101. But the Heat ran out of luck and lost in OT 119-114.

Paul Pierce led 8 Celtics in double figures with 27 points. Gary Payton had 13 assists.

Shaq led the Heat with 34 points and 12 rebounds. Damon Jones scored 25 and Wade added 17. EJ had just 7.

SHAQ’S 50 LIFTS HEAT

MIAMI, Nov. 28 Shaquille O’Neal was a man on a mission. He scored 50 points and pulled down 15 boards as the Miami Heat bounced back from their heartbreaker in Boston to defeat the Bucks 114-100. O’Neal shot 25 of 33.

"I told my teammates that I wanted it tonight," said O'Neal, who had nine dunks. "I told them I wanted to take over the game. Coach (Stan) Van Gundy was gracious enough to keep calling my plays. I told him I wanted it tonight. Whenever I am scoring like that, I want Coach to call my play. I was very happy he granted my wishes tonight."

For Miami Wade added 19 points and 8 assists. DJ (3), EJ (9) and Haslem (4) all had quiet nights.

"I'm just happy and excited for Shaq to come out and play a dominant game like he said he would," Wade said.

For the Bucks Desmond Mason scored 31 and Redd scored 14.
