Fastbreak

Postby galvatron3000 on Thu Sep 30, 2004 1:17 pm

I threw a pass to Tony Parker from back court towards the mid court while they were on the break, he sort of jumped while running and caught it and kept his stride towards the basket. This is inconsistent, to have players continue to move towards the basket, but it helps when you don't use the traditional pass button in transition. In other words, he didn't stop to catch the pass. I was impressed. I also like the low post move when you tap the Y button twice while backing in the post( if you have a Duncan it looks sweet).

It's a fake move. Fake left then turn right then hit the shoot button. It's so sweet. :D I think you must be backing the defender down with the L trigger though.

So do you need to press the lob button for the in-stride pass to work properly?

I read somewhere that if the pass is over 60 feet, he jump up and get it, but otherwise he'll keep running. That's not the case?

Actually, a better way to implement it is have an outlet pass rating. So good outlet passers like Oakley or even a Jason Kidd could hit a player in stride from like 70 feet.

I found this to be effective in Live 2004 so naturally I used this mentality in 2005. If you use the traditional pass button in transition the player always stops to turn and catch, actually in the Live 2004 booklet it tells you that what the button is for. Not sure if it says it in 2005's booklet.

It did seem as though Parker jumped to catch the pass in forward stride and he landed and kept on trucking. I just messed up the break myself so no points or pretty execution occurred.

The post move?? Operation Sports have it in one of the Live 2005 videos they have posted - I think it is video number 16 (but don't quote me on that). It shows the Heat playing against the Pacers and Jermaine O'Neal does it twice.

I actually didnt know you could run better fast breaks with the 'lob' butten. I have noticed in controller set up it says "alley-oop/fastbreak"...so i need to try that. If this is true..it proves that that gamespot editor who reviewed the game is a mediocre..cause one of their gripes was that you couldnt run a proper fast break in the game.

That fake low post move is tight...it definitly adds a bit more realism to the game. It looks especially nice when people like kobe, garnett and o'neal use it.

Oh man, yeah that looks nice (it is video #16). The game looks a lot better from press box view, and I really like how it's looking so far. I can't wait till I get my hands on the PC version!

It worked last year. Like I said it doesn't always work because sometimes the player seems obligated to turn and catch but in some cases the player will keep in stride towards the basket when catching the lob pass down court.

Yea, that's what I was talking about a while ago about sometime the player would turn around and catch the ball like in Live 04. After experiencing with the game for a while, I learned how to run a properly fastbreak.

What really proves that the Gamespot reviewer was mediocre was disseminating misinformation. He said that in Franchise mode the trade portion was cumbersome because you had to totally leave the screen to see player salaries. What dumb-dumb didn't know is that all he had to do was toggle the X button on his XBox controller to view salaries!

It's just like I was telling sho89mtx (Haven't heard from our beloved ESPN guy in a while), alot of these reviewers don't know diddly so there's no sense in putting so much stock in their reviews or scores.

I don't understand this. So when you get the rebound you hit the ally oop button?

hit the lob button for an outlet pass when your man is running the break so he doesn't stop.

not a fan of the sports reviews on ign or gamespot... reading an exactly written review on one game for all the systems is not my thing. but michelle knows my thing  sorry kobe and fam but i couldn't help it.

I don't have 05 yet (cause I'm gettin it on PC), but in 04 when I try this, the guy just attempts to catch the ball in the air and lob it up towards the basket - this happens even on fast breaks from the back court.

I really need someone to clarify the lob/fastbreak button (black button on X-box) for me. As far as I can tell, the fastbreak button makes no difference as far getting the fastbreaks to be smoother without player's stopping to receive the ball. Additionally, there are time when using this button where instead of throwing an outlet pass, the recipient jumps in the air and shoots the ball as if its an alley-oop.

Am I doing something wrong?
