Questions for those who have the game thread

Postby Oosh on Thu Sep 30, 2004 12:17 pm

Just wondering if the player lock bug has been fixed...

The one where the CPU controlled players on your team never shoot the ball unless you command them to?

Also to keep it tidy post any other questions you have for people who have the game in this thread...

How easy is it to score inside? I mean, in 04, once you were inside with guys like the O'Neals, Yao, KG, etc, you could pull a 2 footer and hit EVERY time, and half the time you jumped up to contest, you either get blocked or you're under the basket or whatever so you can't really do anything.. how has this been fixed?

It's a little more tricky because it's hard to back you're guy up. You have to do some post moves to get good position inside and beat you're guy.

I was Wolves vs. Kings and I was struggling getting inside with KG and Olowokandi. So it's harder than last year, i hope that answers your question.

Is the CPU catchup on fastbreaks still annoying? Is it just as bad as last year on the hardest rating (which is where I usually like to play)?

How many assists does the CPU get? Is it really low?

Is CAP significantly improved over last year?

If you create a player with a name that's already in the game, will the announcer say it? Haven't gotten anyone to answer this question yet.

#1: The fastbreaks are pretty cool, however lots of dunks in traffic on the fastbreaks. Bobby Jackson dunked it on me. The catch up isn't as annoying as before, naturally they will be faster than you because you are dribbling the ball.

#2: The computer (kings) got 19 assists on me in 10 minute quarters in sliders I came up with. It was a good game, ball movement was spread out and the gameplay was pretty smooth.

#3: I haven't tried CAP yet.

#4: Sorry, haven't tried CAP yet.

Thanks. Another question. I probably should have included this in my second question. Could you post the assist totals and field goal attempts in one of your games by the CPU? The reason I ask is because in the videos I've seen (at OperationSports), the CPU seems to not pass the ball very well. Most of the time, it looks like the player just dribbles for a while and shoots a J, or its a score in the post.

Also, how are substitutions this year? I remember last year the CPU would make really bizarre substitutions. For instance, it would sit down the star player for most of the 4th quarter or something for no reason. Does that still happen? Also, is there an easy way to do the substitutions for the CPU? In '04 (xbox version), I had to switch controller to the other team to make its substitutions and set its strategy. Is it the same this year?

Andrew,

I and others have many other questions for people with the game, some of which have already been asked in other threads but we dont want to search through every title to find the specific questions or repost the same ones...

Would it be possible to sticky this thread to keep all the questions in one central location?

Thanks in advance from a fellow Aussie...

Cpu assists? To be honest, it varies. When I played the Nuggs Andre finished with 8 assists and 2 turovers, while Terry had 2 assists and 5 turnovers in my game against the Mavs.

Create a player is very starnge indeed. How do I explain this? Ummm...okay....While it is true that they have way more options such as picking your nose, ears, facial structure, etc. there isn't a huge difference between all of your options. Put it like this, by the time I finished changing damn near everything the final product didn't look all that different than the default face I started out with. (N) To their credit, they have some great body types.

If you create a player with a name in the audio data base, not only will Marv say his name but the announcer when being introduced! (Y)

I'll get back to you soon on this one, promise. Funny though, I've always done the same thing: Switch teams to make sub patterns for the cpu, lemme play a few more games and I'll have detailed answers for you Durv.

Anyone able to take screenshots?

I'd love to see the different camera angles, especially Baseline High and Low zoomed out all the way, autozoom off. Thanks!

Hey Johnny, sorry no digital cam and I'm not the most cpu literate anyway.

I was a baseline high kind of guy as well but I'm not feeling how this has changed in 2005. I'm kicking myself for not mentioning it in my review but my favorite baseline high seems, well...different. When zoomed out the player models become too small and when moved in you don't get the same vision of the whole floor like last year.

Baseline low is a'ight but the camera rotates waaayyyy too slow after a rebound to really be a good choice. I also don't like the way the camera "pans" when the players move about.

Therefore, I've reverted back to my old school roots with press box as my camera which looks great. And why do they even have center court and sideline, do people actually even use them?

Just noticed the sticky....

As it's ages until Live 2005 hits the UK shores can I ask you guys that have the game a favour please?

In season mode (not dynasty) can you still select all the NBA teams as user controlled? (assuming season mode is still in the game).

Hopefully you can, and then you can pick and choose which games to play or watch (as cpu v cpu) - as I like to do...fingers crossed.

Thanks in advance men.
Cheers

Wow, that's great... for those with an often-used name, which Cyriel Klitsie definately isn't

Wussup Ninjoid, I do the same thing my brother and yes we're in luck:

- Still have Season Mode for when you get tired of Dynasty.
- All NBA teams can be user controlled
- Yes, you'll be able to choose which games to watch (cpu vs. cpu) and which to play. Also remember, with the new simulation invtervention you can interrupt a simmed game at any point and join in the action!

Tales wrote:Would some kinda soul who got NBA Live 2005 answer those 3 questions for me...

1 - Is the CPU catch-up speed bug still in the game?

2 - Does the CPU point guards shoot a lot, especially from 3 pt land?

3 - Does the CPU teams play like their real-life counterparts, and do they give the ball majorly to their main players?

Thanks in advance... I read some reviews and got worried with the blues. (N)

No need to worry T, it's all good playboy!

- The cpu catch up bug is gone goodbye.

- The point guards no longer take the majority of the shots all the time. And they've stopped that 3 point silliness as well as the 3 pointers at the end of the shot clock all the time.

- Jury is still out on whether each team plays like the real ones. I'm not sure because since the game is still brand new to me it's tough to tell at the moment. But yeah, the stars get the rock, plain and simple. (Y)

this is a lilttle minor question but it bothers me to not see the net move..

in some videos ive seen the net move and some it doesnt making it unrealistic.

So my question is those with the game does the net move when u nail the J or perform a dunk?

Great to hear that the announcers will say created player's names. Jordan and Barkley don't happen to be in the database, do they?

Also, Dre, what platform are you using? I heard that there's more slowdown in the PS2 than Xbox version. It looks like Camera-angles is one of the things EA will have to work on for next year.

The audio database usually just contains players already in the game. Being that there is no one in the nba with the names jordon or barkley...i doubt it. In live 2000 the commentators used to say my name "Bailey" but that was only cause thurl bailey was still in the league.

Man, EA should have just included their names anyway. Not to mention Olajuwon and Stockton. Surely, just having their names in the game wouldn't be a problem, legally.

Hm. I actually switched to Baseline High with 04 or 03 (can't remember) when they removed the Classic cam. Had used that since Live 95 (well, there was no choice back then ;) ), but never really got to like Press Box. So this is not a good sign...

Well, I am hoping that the rotation is better on the PC, then.

Thanks for answering!

how about the stats? last year, if the ball is blocked sometimes it doesn't count as an attempt. and if you try to steal but knock the ball out of bound, you will be penalized by one turnover. are these fixed? thank you.
