Ohio State coach: Greg Oden could make another NBA comeback

Ohio State coach Thad Matta says former Buckeyes star Greg Oden has been training on campus and could attempt another NBA comeback.

Matta spoke Wednesday in Portland, where Ohio State is preparing to face Virginia Commonwealth in the NCAA Tournament's round of 64. This is the same city where the Trail Blazers selected Oden with the top pick in 2007, but the 7-foot center was constantly sidelined with knee injuries.

Matta said Oden has been doing ''high-level training'' the past 6 months with coaches at Ohio State and weighs about 280 pounds.

Well...best of luck to him, far be it from anyone to tell him that he's not allowed to give it a shot. I figured he was done though, after the comeback attempt with the Heat last season didn't lead to much, in particular a roster spot this season. And hey, if all he's doing is getting out there for a run to keep fit and play a little basketball, good for him.

I have to say I admire his effort and dedication. Some players take it for granted and just waste their opportunity like Sanders and Eddy Curry. This kid is different. Best of luck to him. Maybe I pointed that out because I don't like that there's still a stigma about people seeking help for their mental health issues. Labeling them "mental nutjobs" surely doesn't help that, right? We should be encouraging people to seek professional help to fix their issues, and not use derisive labels just because they have admitted to having an illness that they need to address.

He can't wrap his head around the idea that a high-paying basketball career or any career for that matter is not that important to some people in their lives compared to their own well-being and he will probably dismiss it as them 'nutjobs taking it for granted.'

Nah, whatever stupid things he did in the past he deserved to be slated for it but at least now he knows there is something wrong with his head and he is trying to figure it out for himself on how to get better by initiating that buyout with the Bucks instead of holding the team hostage with his demands like Royce White did.

Granted that he basically turned down the Bucks great offer of help for him when he sought that buyout, judging from that article he seems he wants nothing to do with anything basketball related for now, especially treatment that was supposed to be paid for by the Bucks themselves because it's still connected to basketball in general.

Unfortunately for Sanders basketball is not an escape for him with his mental problems as he said in the article so he doesn't like basketball in his life for now, unlike Artest or even Rodman who used basketball as an escape and still managed to continue playing.
