Ohio State coach: Greg Oden could make another NBA comebackOhio State coach Thad Matta says former Buckeyes star Greg Oden has been training on campus and could attempt another NBA comeback.
Matta spoke Wednesday in Portland, where Ohio State is preparing to face Virginia Commonwealth in the NCAA Tournament's round of 64. This is the same city where the Trail Blazers selected Oden with the top pick in 2007, but the 7-foot center was constantly sidelined with knee injuries.
Matta said Oden has been doing ''high-level training'' the past 6 months with coaches at Ohio State and weighs about 280 pounds.
Well...best of luck to him, far be it from anyone to tell him that he's not allowed to give it a shot. I figured he was done though, after the comeback attempt with the Heat last season didn't lead to much, in particular a roster spot this season. And hey, if all he's doing is getting out there for a run to keep fit and play a little basketball, good for him.

I want Brandon Roy!!!

Seems he's listening to doctor's orders after that comeback attempt with the Timberwolves.

I have to say I admire his effort and dedication. Some players take it for granted and just waste their opportunity like Sanders and Eddy Curry. This kid is different. Best of luck to him. But given number of failures in past and piling years of struggle, I have to admit I doubt his attempt will be a success.
Also makes me wonder if Bynum's given up on his career.
Thu Mar 19, 2015 5:12 pm
As Andrew said, it's good to see him do something positive with his life, even if it ends up to being to no avail. If only players like Robert Swift had the same drive.

You might wanna read
this. Sanders' case is different

It's all same. It's all mental issues. Having more means to other parts of life than to do your job of "playing ball" (especially after getting paid big).
Fri Mar 20, 2015 8:48 pm
I like how people think mental issues will just easily disappear if you have loads of money at your disposal.
At least
Sanders accepted his head is not right and initiated the buyout with the Bucks and put his career on hold so he can get better and straighten himself out unlike Bynum who'd rather go bowling or Royce White who threw a hissy fit when he was sent to the D-League so he can have more time to improve his mental issue or Ron Artest who'd rather drink in the locker room before games or David Harrison who'd rather smoke weed everyday during his NBA career thanks to Jim O'Brien or Eddie Griffin who drank himself too much that he got hit by a train and died.
Eddy Curry's is just sad, his infant daughter got murdered with the mother, just one of the things he had or still going through.
Only a dick of a human being a step below Hitler would think of a person who's trying to improve his mental health just so he can improve his way of life and the people around him at the cost of his high-paying career is taking it for granted.
Sat Mar 21, 2015 1:25 am
blah blah blah, bullshit as usual on issue of non importance
Sat Mar 21, 2015 1:40 am
Lol happy Friday and first day of spring, ladies
Didn't hear about the curry's daughter being murdered. Wow
I had heard about stories of his chronic laziness when he was still with the Bulls. Even in his contract year.
That's pretty cold hearted, even for you, novu

tbh I expected that kind of idiotic response regarding the seriousness of mental health issues from a person who feels victimized every time strangers in an internet forum question his opinion.
The response is so stupid that I finally decided to add him to my nlsc blocked list just so I can avoid reading his ill-informed, cancerous, and retarded posts.
Larry Brown advised Curry to jump to be a better rebounder, that tells us all we need to know of how lazy he was/is?
Sat Mar 21, 2015 2:47 am
Lol he said that too? I know the great Scott skiles said that. The reporters were laughing but skiles was serious.
Lol jackal was a better adversary than this one
Blocked list? Nlsc has this? Thanks man!
Sat Mar 21, 2015 2:54 am
Ah yes my mistake, that was Skiles.
afaik Larry Brown said something about Curry (and his entire Knicks team) too, about not knowing how to do a proper screen in pick and rolls, and considering how wide Curry is...
nlsc user control panel -> friends & foes tab -> take a pick -> celebrate

I have no problem accepting the fact that Sanders is a mental case. I don't know why anyone would go distance provoking anyone citing Hitler and make up all those craps to make a non point again which is obviously afar from the point anyone was from making.
Sure, say Sanders is a mental nutjob so that's his excuse for neglecting his job as a basketball player. That's that, simple as that, we can all come to agree. But some fucking forum nutjob had to go on mission to troll again and prove his PhD-ness in mental medical field. Have fun.
Sat Mar 21, 2015 5:24 pm
I like how you call Ur Boi Bangs Chol a troll, yet you're the one calling Larry Sanders "a mental nutjob".
Sat Mar 21, 2015 6:07 pm
oden just wants that pay check and i cant blame him 1 bit
Sat Mar 21, 2015 6:50 pm
His knees died before he was able to cash in big time. I am sure money's extra fuel for motivation.
Kenny wrote:I like how you call Ur Boi Bangs Chol a troll, yet you're the one calling Larry Sanders "a mental nutjob".
I like how you don't like me calling spade a spade. Sanders has severe mental issues, that's something even UrBoiBangsChol knows.
Sat Mar 21, 2015 7:09 pm
Maybe I pointed that out because I don't like that there's still a stigma about people seeking help for their mental health issues. Labeling them "mental nutjobs" surely doesn't help that, right? We should be encouraging people to seek professional help to fix their issues, and not use derisive labels just because they have admitted to having an illness that they need to address.
Sat Mar 21, 2015 7:23 pm
Maybe I was telling you to butt out if you don't have a dog in this fight.
I care not if the term 'mental nutjob' was derogatory, I was provoked by worse, perhaps you have decency to address that?
Sat Mar 21, 2015 7:48 pm
It was overzealous, sure, but he was likely annoyed by your lack of empathy and the fact that you basically dismissed the issue of mental illness simply because they have money.
Sat Mar 21, 2015 8:18 pm
For a moment there I thought Kenny was addressing Sauru, ha.
Advise to you Kenny, don't bother with the guy.
You will have a better and enjoyable time playing Kwame Brown in CAL mode in past 2K versions than getting your point across to a person like that.
He can't wrap his head around the idea that a high-paying basketball career or any career for that matter is not that important to some people in their lives compared to their own well-being and he will probably dismiss it as them 'nutjobs taking it for granted.'
He'll probably find a way to shift the discussion about him and play the victim card again and thinking the entire discussion is about being against him personally instead of understanding the issue at hand.
Probably watching the Cricket World Cup is a more productive use of your time Kenny than throwing your opinions at him. That World Cup is still on right?
Sat Mar 21, 2015 9:15 pm
imagine if this thread had more posts about the topic than random nonsense?

Perhaps you need to re-read the entire discussion. "mental nutjob" was a reaction to annoying forum trolling which you seem to greatly have problem with. And while you are at it, don't take word out of context and add silly things like "because money
only" which I never implied.
By the way I don't get this sudden Sanders apologist sentiment. It's as if every stupid things he does is automatically forgivable on 'mental' excuse. Hey, he smokes cracks but that's ok he's mental and he's trying to fix his 'mental' (as if anyone with mental issue isn't trying to fix but somehow only Sanders is plausible). You realize he's been in the league fine and dandy for 5 seasons now? Lack of empathy or not, it's a silly political correctness to silence any credible doubts and criticism. I am the one that's not fully swinging either way.
But then I don't have PhD in mental/ball science nor can read mind of Hinkie.

As a person with mental issues, I had no idea Sanders was in the situation he is ATM. Makes me wan't to delete all my previous posts regarding him.
Sat Mar 21, 2015 11:09 pm
Nah, whatever stupid things he did in the past he deserved to be slated for it but at least now he knows there is something wrong with his head and he is trying to figure it out for himself on how to get better by initiating that buyout with the Bucks instead of holding the team hostage with his demands like Royce White did.
Granted that he basically turned down the Bucks great offer of help for him when he sought that buyout, judging from that article he seems he wants nothing to do with anything basketball related for now, especially treatment that was supposed to be paid for by the Bucks themselves because it's still connected to basketball in general.
Unfortunately for Sanders basketball is not an escape for him with his mental problems as he said in the article so he doesn't like basketball in his life for now, unlike Artest or even Rodman who used basketball as an escape and still managed to continue playing.
