That is a bit of a bummer because I got use to running both in 14. So this year is going to be all about the sweetFX.

A helpful hint... for those without a monitor calibration device (most of us), try downloading a calibrated icc profiles for your specific monitor from http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/icc_profiles.htm

they won't be perfect, as every monitor is different, but could be a heck of a lot better than what came with your monitor. i got lucky and borrowed a spyder from a friend, and created a number of calibrated icc profiles. surprisingly i found that of all the icc profiles that came with my monitor, the icc profile that came with my printer (epson artisan 837) was nearly dead one my calibrated icc profiles. so as another option, you can download the print driver, and try the "epson gray- gamma 2.2" icc profile and see how it looks on your monitor.

i mention this because i intended for my settings to look a certain way, but it might look a lot different on your monitor if it's not calibrated.

V3 is my favorite, too. i tried to replicate the look of v2, but without using HDR. i also removed nearly all the fog, as it's not realistic, and add a subtle blue tint to mimic a HD TV broadcast. Without HDR on, V3 should work fine for both lower and higher end PCs.

broholin, did you disable steam overlay and try the other troubleshooting steps in the OP? just need a sense of what you've tried so far.

Thanks Golden State for all the hard work on making this and in particular the troubleshooting efforts you put forth. Big thanks to MLP as well for figuring out how to get this working on 8.1. I was pretty disappointed with the graphics on the PC even at max settings. They look much, much better with this bad boy.

cool man glad you like it. and yeah i hear you. i was disappointed with 2014 and 2015 default graphics--seems like the trend is dull colors and lots of fog.

I like the aspect the fog plays in offering greater contrast and color pop in cut scenes etc. Maybe if you decide to create some more sweetFX sets you could make one with similar colors/shades as v3, but carrying over some of the haze. If not I understand because I'm sure you make these for you and I am just happy you chose to share.

I would agree, I kinda like that light fog as well, that'd be nice to have a sweetfx version with more of that.
In any case, good job on this man, and thanks to MLP for the detective work too.

Thanks for the work you guys did. Works like charm on 8.1 now and even with Razer Game Booster for what it's worth.

+1 on a foggy version

this isn't an official release, but since i'm traveling most of next week for work, i thought i'd put out a quick unofficial release with fog. This is essentially V3 with default fog "turned back on".

the reason I don't want this to be my "official" fog version release is that there are other sweetfx settings and (combination of settings) that produce fog like effects i want to play around with first. in fact, i messed around for just a bit and found a combination of settings that actually produces a different fog, more like haze, that i really liked but need to perfect. So this in the meantime:

https://mega.co.nz/#!tBdjzSJA!Z6djWXKKS ... bNOt_p61zk

download, choose os, copy the sweetfx_settings.txt file over to the main game directory and click replace. Save the original sweetfx_settings.txt first in case you'd like to revert (or just download it again from this thread).

i'm also working on a photorealistic version, which is a bit of a challenge without enb but making good progress. other ideas are welcome.

did some google searching, and looks like other folks have experienced this with different games, although i haven't found a definitive solution. here are some possible causes, according to the internet (so hold your breath)

1) run out of video memory
2) gpu overheating
3) firewall issues
4) driver issue

possible solutions:

1) completely remove and re-install video driver (use this guide) http://www.overclock.net/t/1150443/how- ... ivers/0_30
2) re-install game
3) make sure the video card is clear of dust (open and clean at your own risk of course)
4) manually create firewall exceptions (windows firewall)
5) only use drivers from your laptop manufacturers website (looks like Toshiba owners have had this same issue, if that's your manufacturer)
6) try starting game as admin

question--have you overclocked your processor and/or video card?

I would try 4 and 6 together, as a first step.

also, go into efx.ini (in game directory) and at bottom of the page, set

log_level to 4 (from 3)
and log_debug to true (from false).

and next time the crash happens, pm the more detailed log to me. thanks and good luck.
