Talk about NBA 2K14 here.

Ok, for anyone interested that has used this in 2k13, the self shadows can be enabled the same way for 2k14. Here's the tutorial link for anyone that hasn't tried it before.

dang. i did this and not only did it not work, SweetFX no longer works either

EDIT: oops. scratch that comment about SweetFX not working... i had fraps running. Apparently fraps and sweetFX don't get along.

Hmmm, worked fine for me. GTX 780 with the 327.23 drivers. I have that enabled along with the ENB. Not sure if its a Windows 8 thing. I use 7.

Its just fantastic. But it is a pity that it is available only to Nvidia videocards owners

there is an AMD/ATI method that was shared last year. You'll have to search for it, but it exists

What version of the inspector are you using?
also, does this change play nice with SweetFX?

I'm using version 1.9.7.2 Nvidia inspector. I also have both ENB and Sweet FX installed with zero FPS loss.

cool. I'll try that version. cheers.

so the inspector is working for me (i can use it to set vsync and AA, for example), but ambient occlusion refuses to work.
Perhaps it is something with win 8 and the 700 series nvidia cards.
I'm gonna play around some more and will report back here if i figure out a solution.
edit: bah. giving up for now. I've tried pretty much every Ambient Occlusion compatibility setting in the list. Nothing adds self shadows. Some are definitely doing something though, as setting it to Guild Wars 2, messes up the graphics in the UI and cuts my framerate in half... but no shadows
Might try rolling back to an older driver.
cheers

Try entering nvidia control panel. Go to global settings. Enable Ambient Occlusion to whatever you wish - quality, for example and then make sure you have created separate profile for 2k14 and re-check whether settings in inspector have been saved. I coundn't get it working before I did that (
nvidia inspector settings would not override the disabled Ambient Occlusion within nvidia control panel!). See it working ->

I run the game with all high settings, no lag. But when I try it, the game becomes so laggy
PC specs :
AMD A8-5600K -3.6 GHz
Nvidia GeForce GT 630

I have the 770m. It's the notebook version of the 770 in an MSI gaming laptop.
I tried what you suggested and that didn't work. I also tried the latest nvidia beta drivers (331.40) with a clean install. The nvidia inspector is definitely working because the settings i override in the inspector are changing the control panel. Everything appears to be functioning as it should, however the self shadows are refusing to show up

. Perhaps this version of the 770 does not support this type of ambient occlusion?
Thanks for the suggestion tho.
cheers

Which SSAO profile in NVIDIA inspector you find the best besides Diablo 3 ? I find DIablo 3 a bit too aggressive on the shadows in NBA 2K14. So far I am stuck on Aion which is the least aggressive and gives the realest look!

I loss my FPS with this.
What settings can you suggest to me?
I have

So I tried this with my 660Ti, and I can't really seem to see a difference in-game (nothing as major as what's shown in the screens above), but my fps did go from the 110's to the 80's...I guess I'll try different quality settings for ambient occlusion, or different profiles maybe, because right now it looks exactly the same to me.

EDIT: tried with AO set to "High Quality" instead of "Quality", reduced my fps a little further (high 70's, low 80's), but still no visual difference and certainly no self shadowing here...

exact same issue I am having on my 770m. Getting big fps hits on some of the profiles, but no self shadows

just curious, what are you guys hoping to achieve with these self shadows ? realism ?
because if you've ever been to a real game you'd know with the insane amount of lights centered on the floor player shadows are non existent, there are literally lights hitting the floor from every single angle making shadows impossible.... also some people tend to think player reflections on the floor also constitute as shadows...

That was the idea yes.
I've been to several games so I do know what that's supposed to look like, and it's certainly lit up like a fucking christmas tree. If it's feasible, it still doesn't hurt to try to achieve realistic shadows that are clearly cast onto jerseys like in this picture:

I totally get what you are saying. I was not blow away by the initial effect of self shadowing with diablo 3 profile, since it over-exaggerated the shadows which is nowhere near the realism you get in real game, but with Aion profile I believe I get the result I need - real and not over the top shadows from other players, hands and objects.
IMO Self Shadowing In Davon6 print screens are over the top, but right bellow you can see Self Shadows with Aion profile. See how Kobe's hands creates a normal looking shadow over the jersey when comparing it to picture above where his hands are down (same angle) vs unrealistically too dark of a shadow in a picture above where CP goes against Rose.
