Talk about NBA 2K14 here.

I really hope they fix the passing in this game. I didn't like the passing at all in 2K13. I kept having to hit the button so many times to get it to even pass.

I hope you realize double-tapping A will actually do a pass fake. Unless you tap it JUST once, it won't pass the ball.

Major epiphany incoming for dascoot.

The directional passing definitely needs a few tweaks. I use icon passing a fair bit and that's easy enough, but there are times when you want to make a quick pass and the logical recipient/teammate you're holding the stick towards is ignored completely in favour of making an unsafe pass to someone on the opposite side of the floor.
Mon Jul 01, 2013 2:42 am
It's the opposite for me in 2K13. I find that icon passing isn't as effective compared to the previous versions of the game on PC while directional passing has improved that I even use it now for fastbreaks or dumping the ball out to a teammate on the perimeter.

i felt that in live 10 they had a great system for icon passing. you could hold the button and manually move your guy to a safe spot to pass to him. and then you could also flick the right stick for freestyle passing

Qballer, oh Eric, Eric, Eric. We MUST get you some more modern games. That feature has been there for a couple of iterations now in NBA 2K. You just turn Total Control Passing to Total Control rather than Normal in the Controller Settings, and you can hold down the icon and move the player around as much as you want before passing. I do wish there was a way to cancel out of that however while I'm moving the player (or if there is, I wish I knew how to).
Right-stick passing is also there in NBA 2K, AFAIK.
shadowgrin, directional passing is much better than 2K12's, agreed on that. I find myself using it now and then, but there's no way to just pass it to the player that's in the same direction but further away than the one closest to you, hence why sometimes I need to still use icon passing and/or get frustrated by directional passing.
I think the Pass button needs to get different effects for different kinds of taps and holds. Single tap would be regular pass/auto-select best, double tap could be bounce pass, single hold would be lob pass, tap and hold could be "prefer pass to the player further away in the same direction, if any". Or something of the sort.

Right Stick passing is Icon Pass plus Right Stick Flick

Yeah I still do have some moments when I get frustrated with the directional passing because there's just no option for you to do what you need to and you can't icon pass because of the speed of the moment, like what if you're in the lane and you want to pass it out and you have teammates from opposite sides who are about the same distance from you.
I could just press the pass button (no direction pointing) and the game will pass it to the nearest teammate but since both teammates are about the same distance from me (from my view) it's up to the game to decide for me if the recipient would be either the left or right teammate.
But if left teammate's defender tries to double me the most obvious choice would be to pass it to the left teammate since he's open but in the same direction is another teammate farther away, so if I use directional passing to give it to the left teammate more likely the recipient will be the teammate farther away instead of the closer teammate who is open and the directional pass could result in a turnover since the recipient is not open as the closer teammate.

Hitting Square+X is near god damn impossible for alley oops. Sure sometimes I get to do it but on a 2-man fast break when you hit the alley oop combo button, when your direction with the left analog movement stick is the slightest bit off, you're not going to hit the running guy with an alley oop but lob it back to the guy that just passed the half court line.
Why does this need to be so hard? The logic in NBA Live alley oops back in the day was whoever was close to the rim would receive the oop. Even if I was facing the other way, I wouldn't care because I should still be passing to the guy running to the hoop. Even so, Square+X for an alley oop is atrocious.

I hope they put back the replays such as out of bounds, rebound stuff like that is in 'gametrack' like they did before in 2K8. Also I would love to see the 'double crossover' in signatures of players back.

I gotta rant a little, because this is just baffling to me. I'm talking about the CPU's substitutions and management of players in foul trouble. It's totally broken.
First of all, (sub settings are on "Rotation") the CPU thinks it has to put every single player that has at least a minute designated to him on the floor in the first f'in quarter. It makes no sense. Say a third string PG has 2 minutes designated to him, for the entire game, he literally gets subbed in the first quarter, like 2 minutes after the backup PG has been put into the game. As a result of this the CPU clears their whole goddamn bench in the first quarter more often than not.
I could go on and on, way too many 5 players subs, players getting subbed in, out, in and out again within a matter of minutes ... It's just stupid, and honestly kinda throws off the flow of the game.
The second thing, it seems like the rotation settings totally override their sense of managing players in foul trouble.
I just played against LeBron who picked up 2 fouls early in the first quarter, but he kept playing. I think I managed to hang a third on him either late in the first or early in the second; regardless it was at a time where he should have not been in the game. Now I thought, alright, at least now they are gonna sit him for the rest of the quarter, 3 fouls in the first half - that's like an unwritten rule. Nope. Came back before halftime (ended up with 4 fouls at the half).
Another time I played, Durant picked up his fifth with 7 minutes to go in the fourth, stayed in for the rest of the game.
It's clear that with players, who are supposed to log heavy minutes according to the rotation settings, will not be properly subbed out when they're in foul trouble.
The baffling thing about all of this - I cannot remember that this has been an issue in previous installments. From what I can remember it has always been kind of unnatural and not really how a real coach would handle his players, but it never really affected my experience in a negative way. Now, almost everything about it seems broken.
I hope they fix it in 2k14.

I was playing a game last night & turned it off because of that. I've decided to do them manually now. Mosgov who was assigned 2 minutes as a bench warmer got subbed in for Gasol/Monroe instead of Jordan Hill.
Quite frustrating, don't understand why they feel the need to play the bottom dwelling guys their minutes way early in the game when logically they'd play garbage minutes and/or in dire situations.
Just takes a bit more effort on my part now though.
Tue Jul 09, 2013 9:31 pm
Shit, you're doing all of your opponents' substitutions manually? That'd be too much effort for me.
I'm thinking of just switching to the sub setting that's based on the players' fatigue, see how well that works.

Oh no I meant my own ones, I don't have a problem with their substitutions, unless it's something really absurd like the Lebron situation, then yeah I switch sides for a bit and make the subs.
If I do fatigue then Gasol/Bryant tire quick, can't imagine how it would've been if Nash hadn't retired in my association.
But yeah they definitely need to get that sorted, it's hella annoying.

I've become used to the alley-oop controls this year and can pull them off more often than not, but I'd still agree that they're a bit contrived. I'd prefer having one button for alley-oops, with the ability to select the recipient with the left stick and directional passing, or leave it up to the AI if the left stick is neutral.

Oh ok. I've been manually subbing my whole life playing NBA video games. Don't trust the CPU with that, rightfully so.

I hope you are allowed to select jerseys for gameplay in MyCareer mode.

Agreed. A small detail, but it'd be a nice touch to spice things up.

Most important imo: Improve the gameplay i.e. more animations and improve or replace existing animations. Make speed matter no matter the difficulty setting. Did not like seeing slow centers being able to outrun my 99 speed PG and affect the fast break. This will no doubt make the game less difficult but they should be able to counter it by making the AI smarter. They have some of the best minds so I believe they are more than capable of pulling it off.
Personal preference of what I'd like to see: Further polished presentation and graphics and attention to detail: More accurate arenas, colors, reflections, lighting etc. Crowd sounds and overall sound effects.

Compared to NBA 2K12, I didn't think the speed issue was that bad, but there's still room for improvement. Improving control responsiveness is a must as well.

Just an idea for Association. What about something like a team loyalty system?
Let's just say I was managing the Heat, and I made 5 trades with the Thunder in one season (I know its unrealistic, but its just an example). Maybe over time, you would have so called "loyalty points". for every trade, you would gain x amount of loyalty points, and the more loyalty points you have with a team, the more likely they are to give you a better deal. It goes two ways as well. If you rip a team off with a trade, e.g Hedo and some scrubs for Lebron, they will be less likely to give you a good trade offer.
Also, FIX ONLINE FOR PC!!!!!! I haven't been able to play a fucking game online because the servers are so fucked up and there is only ever one person online.

It'd be great to have that kind of depth in Association, where your moves earn you a reputation with other teams and players alike. Consistently lowballing teams with insulting offers could make it harder to get deals done, as teams wouldn't be as willing to talk to you. Likewise, constantly trading away players or not being fair in contract negotiations would make it more difficult to sign (or even retain) free agents, as there wouldn't be a sense of trust.

I want more body sizes, shapes... I loved modding 2k10 when you could adjust arm and leg sizes. I fear that'll never happen again, but at least give more options in bodies. The skinny isn't skinny enough, the fat is usually too fat. Again, I'm not holding my breath on this ever being addressed.
