It's in an alpha stage, so it has lots of little bugs but is completely playable and very immersive. For instance, somebody used a bunch of barbed wire to close off the entrance to this gate house. I found a gap to get through but the last part was a bit tight so I went prone and crawled through. Once I got in the door, something cut me up really bad and broke my bones. So I was bleeding heavily, had to bandage myself using several bandages, and now I can not walk, but I can crawl.
There is an odd bug when crawling through a doorway that is slightly elevated. It hurts you badly. It sucks because I am out of food(you need to eat and drink when the respective icons start flashing), and I have a good amount of loot. A winchester shotgun with several clips of ammo, an alice pack that allows you to carry more loot in your bag, barbed wire, flares, an M9 handgun and a clip, several bandages, a couple smoke grenades, a map, a compass, and some soda cans for drinking.
I haven't really encountered anyone who talks through their microphone that speaks english, but there is a global chat that people can use to communicate across the server. I need to use that so I can get someone to fix my bones somehow. I think it could be really fun with a bunch of people because there are so many players who just go shooting other people and stealing their loot instead of zombies. The developers increased the zombie count probably in an effort to curb the player vs player killing. I would love to help others out who need it and am willing to trade loot.
A couple of things I don't like are the player movement and directional sound. Zombies can sometimes sound like they are right next to you. Your footsteps and movement sounds are incredibly loud. When you side strafe there is a shuffle sound that is so annoying and loud, especially on certain surfaces. However, the directional sound is great for hearing gunshots, and as long as people are using their microphone in direct communication mode, you can hear their character speak at a certain distance. I believe the characters lips move when players speak, too. Pretty cool. I don't like the way the guns are aimed, but I am sure this is because you are actually controlling the animation of the player rather than just a camera view of your target.
Apparently you can fix some cars and helicopters and use them. The only thing I found was a car tire that I could not pick up because I wasn't willing to drop anything.
Zombies can kill you so quickly, so a lot of the time I am just sneaking around or even crawling past them. As soon as they hear shots, they start running towards that location and alerting other zombies. At one point I had several chasing right after me and got them to run into a barrier to give me time to reload and shoot them all down. You can distract them with flares and smoke grenades.
I heard the company might make this mod part of the game since the creator is one of the developers of the original game, and they have been supporting him throughout it's development.
If you get it, hit me up so we can schedule a time to play. Spawns are random on the map, so friends have to communicate to find each other.
