Monthly Recap: November 2010

The Suns started off not so well, starting off with a 0-2 record but got it right back with a 3 game winning streak but got broken just recently, but ended the month on a solid note, winning 4 Games in a row. Here are some player evaluation for this month.

Steve Nash - Nash is looking good this start of the season, but his team is still not in the playoff picture just yet even with a 7-3 record, averaging almost 10 APG is not bad at all for his age, Nash has been showing his offensive clutch abilities lately this month and has delivered right on time.

Grant Hill - Hill is maybe is having his breakout season since his stint in Detroit before injuring his foot way back seasons before, averaging 20 points per game over his last 5 games for a 38 Year old? It doesn't get better than that, including a 37 Point performance against the Bulls in the epic 2OT game earlier this month.

Vince Carter - He used to be called "Half-man Half-Amazing", but his performance with the Suns has been one of a kind, a very solid contribution by Vince Carter should help this Suns team reach their goals. Carter is maybe shooting at his best this season from the 3pt. line and its no secret why and also has been posting a lot of posters so far. So should he be called "Half-man Half-Amazing?"

Channing Frye - After having a breakout season last year, including a magnificent Playoff performance last year, Channing Frye looks to repeat, and even achieve even more this season, a good start so far by Frye, posting career high in rebounds and points per game, and Frye has added his low post scoring that he lacked in his past season also his defensive performance has been great.

Marcin Gortat - After playing 2 seasons behind Orlando Magic star Dwight Howard, since playing for the Suns, Gortat has been putting up huge numbers on the boards averaging a career high of 8 rebounds a game so far this season, and also posted career high in Blocks per game. Gortat still looks for room for improvement in his game. Playing the pick n' roll with Steve Nash has helped Gortat.

Jared Dudley - Coming off the bench has been his specialty, and he keeps on getting better at it. Dudley is such a huge part of every game for the Suns and it seems like he has embraced his role as a Sixth Man and according to Dudley, He's feeling great with the Suns, and Jared Dudley has been a hand and glove fit for the Suns this season.

Aaron Brooks - Aaron Brooks, last seasons Most Improved Player while playing for the Rockets. People question on how he would play behind Steve Nash, and Brooks has answered them all Brooks averages 13 points per game coming off the bench and Brooks looks like he's really comfortable with the Suns 7 seconds or less.

Mickael Pietrus - Over the start of his Suns career this season, Pietrus hasn't been effective enough but over the last week, Pietrus has finally adjusted to the Suns playing style, his 3 point shooting has improved alot playing along side Steve Nash.

Hakim Warrick - It hasn't been a good start for Warrick as he suffered an injury that cost him to miss the first few games of the season, but like everyone else on the team he bounced back and became a huge part of the Suns winning run
last November.

Robin Lopez & Josh Childress - Not so much :facepalm2:

A Game Decided With A Last Second Shot

Postby µTorrent on Mon Jun 20, 2011 11:54 am

1st Half Story: It wasn't epic until the last quarter started, but it was a quarter to be proud of by both teams. Suns and the Lakers trade leads from time and time again, fans go crazy, then not crazy then crazy again, fans really got the moneys worth the first minute. Vince Carter and Kobe Bryant got off to a show down, both had 11 Points to start the Quarter. Second Quarter underwent and it was a surprise, the Suns were able to pick up their game and was clicking on both ends of the floor, while the Lakers were in a slump. Suns ended the 1st Half with an impressive lead.

2nd Half Story: With a one sided game heading into the Second Half, the Lakers would not back down and got back to work, a 10-0 run secured the deal, heading into the 4th Quarter with big momentum. The 4th Quarter was really crazy! The Suns and Lakers go back and forth and back and forth diving on the floor for loose balls, it was anyone's ball game. With the Suns bench slowing down and the Lakers having a big advantage, Ron Artest landed hard on the floor breaking his left ankle and did not return, the Suns finally got their 3 point shots going in, with the Lakers best defender out, the Suns would climb their way back into the game. Skipping into the last seconds of the game, the Suns were down by 3, with Grant Hill inbounding the ball at the sideline, Hill passed the Ball to Nash, and Nash would quickly fire up a 3 pointer, and tied the game up at 105, the Lakers would have one last chance to avoid OT, Kobe slashes into the Suns Defense, But was trapped and was forced to pass the ball to Gasol, Gasol passed the Ball back to Kobe, but Kobe was rejected by Frye, the Suns thought they had forced OT, but the ball went to Gasol and Gasol fired up a rainbow shot, as the buzzer sounds, so did the ball go in. A stunning loss for the Suns.

Suns, Celtics Gets The Deal Done
December 10, 2010 5:34 PM EDT

Image

Phoenix, AZ - After former Suns guard Aaron Brooks finally revealed on how he feels playing with the Suns, he expressed his disappointment of playing with the Suns. Suns GM appointed a meeting earlier this morning with the former Suns Guard, and here is their conversation.

Blanks: You have expressed your feeling of disappointment playing here in Phoenix, is that right?
Brooks: Yes, i did. :|
Blanks: But why? Your given enough minutes to play on the court, and i don't understand why your irritated with the team.
Brooks: Its just that, i wanted to play on a bigger market? I want to win consistently. And thats not happening here in Phoenix.
Blanks: So you're demanding a trade? You don't want to play here in Phoenix?
Brooks: Hell Yeah! I WANT A TRADE! RIGHT NOW!
Blanks: Keep it cool, we'll do our best to make a trade for you.
Brooks: Oh you better hurry!
Blanks: We'll just contact you if we have any news regarding that.

After a while, it was reported that the Suns have agreed a deal offered by the Celtics after Blanks managed to contact Celtics GM Danny Ainge regarding Brook's actions, and that the Celtics are also looking to unload a player of their own (Jeff Green), and in return they wanted a guard who can backup Rajon Rondo on a regular basis.

Trade Overview:

Suns receive - #22, Jeff Green | #50 Nenad Kristic
Celtics receive - #0, Aaron Brooks | #1, Josh Childress

Suns Projected Lineup:
PG: S.Nash | SG: V.Carter | SF: G.Hill | PF: J.Green | C: Marcin Gortat

Celtics Projected Lineup:
PG: R.Rondo | SG: R.Allen | SF: P.Pierce | PF: K.Garnett | C: S.O'Neal

Grading The Deal:

Suns Grade: B-
The Suns have already got rid of the hot headed Aaron Brooks, in exchange the Celtics gives the expiring contracts of Jeff Green and Nenad Kristic. Jeff Green would be a projected starter for the Suns, Green would give them more versatility in the PF position, Green and Frye can play together on the court, and should be a perfect complement to the team, Green can also give more inside presence, and also mid range shots, But still, the Suns are still a weak defensive team. But nobody would back up Nash. Dowdell could be one.

Celtics Grade: B
With Green out, the Celtics PF position wouldn't be that crowded and the C's would get also a expiring contract of Aaron Brooks, but would have Josh Childress backing up Pierce, and Brooks backing up Rondo and would give Pierce and Rondo rest and not to play for the whole 40 Minutes.

How about you? What would you grade the Suns and Celtics? And Why?

I dig Nash and Hill, so I've been hoping your rewrite goes well. I was hoping Nash would figure out some way to win more despite being Amareless this season.

Not a big fan of Green and Kristic, I don't know. Having a better 4 is nice, but not having a quality backup to old man Steve, that might hurt you bigtime.

Doesn't seem like Brooks would play enough on the Celtics for the deal to be great for them either, unless they went small a lot. Which would also degrade their defense even more.

Good job in sending Childress away, but that meant trading Brooks too. So who's backing up Nash now? Dowdell? :|

Yeah, but atleast Brooks can backup Ronod better than Bradley. I'm still looking for FA to sign, Maybe dowdell would, but he ain't NBA ready yet, he's with the Iowa Energy.

Probably, but if i can find another deal, or find someone from the FA then, i'd roll my dice.

Suns sign Alston to 1 Year Deal
December 10, 2010 8:01 PM EDT

Phoenix, AZ - Hours after realizing that the Suns doesn't have a Point Guard to back up 37 Year Old Steve Nash, they knew they would have to sign a Free Agent in order to backup Guard Steve Nash, if not they would have to roll they're dice on Zabian Dowdell. Luckily, Carter contacted former teammate Rafer Alston whom he played with a short time in Toronto. And Suns GM Lance Blanks was informed by Vince Carter that he has Rafer Alston interested in playing full time with the Suns. Shortly, in no time the Suns has a backup for Steve Nash. The Suns signed Rafer Alston to a 1 Year Contract worth $1.84M

Suns upsets Magic as Gortat & Alston set Career Highs

Postby µTorrent on Mon Jun 20, 2011 7:31 pm

Phoenix, AZ - For the whole game, the Suns took advantage of the Magic because of Howard's foul trouble.
The Suns took the lead through their surprisingly tough defense, blocking shots, stripping balls & rebounding the ball, Marcin Gortat had a superb game with 5 Blocks and a Career High of 23 Points, but he had a bad game interms of rebounding the basketball but Jeff Green was able to pick up the rebounding for the team. Another X-Factor of the game was Rafer Alston and Jared Dudley, Rafer Alston posted a career high of 15 Assists and was magnificent backup for Steve Nash, Jared Dudley had 18 Points off the bench and was on fire from downtown. The Magic attempted a comeback, but came up really short.

Nash Season High 16 Assists Bring Down Spurs

Click on this picture to see the scores.
1st Half Story: The Suns and the Spurs went head to head and looked like a pretty enjoyable & exciting game, the score would not go far for each team on a very low scoring first 8 minutes of the game fans were still await for their home crowd to take charge. But unfortunately, Rafer Alston awesomely drained a buzzer beating 3 pointer to end the 1st, and to end the Spurs scoring run. Rafer Alston led the Suns in scoring with 9 Points and Richard Jefferson went for 7/7 on the floor with 14 Points to lead the Spurs. Tony Parker is the Spurs heart and soul this season averaging 19 PPG and 8 APG with 10 PPG after the 1st Half, but Parker just scored 6 points in the 1st Half along with 3 Turnovers. Not a good start for Parker.

2nd Half Story: Both teams looked to heat up in the 2nd Half, but it just seemed that the Spurs lost their composure early in the 3rd Quarter and the Suns still look really aggressive even with a outstanding lead against the top seeded (so far) Spurs. But the oldies seemed to have lost their game in this half, but notable players have tried to will their way back and it seemed that the Suns had more team effort within them, DaJuan Blair & Richard Jefferson were in a roll offensively and also Manu Ginobili had a good 2nd Half, but not until the game was out of reach.

"It was just not our night."

December Monthly Recap

Postby µTorrent on Fri Jun 24, 2011 12:00 am

Suns.com wrote:Image

After a great start towards the 2010-11 NBA season for the Phoenix Suns, last December wasn't so much a dominant month for the Suns as they were getting blown out lately but a solid win over the top seed San Antonio Spurs got the league's attention back to the Suns.

HOT: The Suns made a trade involving Jeff Green and Aaron Brooks, both players struggling on their teams. Then the Suns sign veteran Rafer "Skip-2-My-Lou" Alston to a 1 Yr. veteran's minimum. Both players showed how they were compatible with the Suns system and Jeff Green averaged a career low of 5.8 PPG with the Celtics but with the Suns Green averaged 17.3 PPG playing just for the Suns, but if you would average his PPG and combine it from his Celtics tenure and Suns tenure, Green averaged 8 PPG. Rafer Alston is known as Skip-to-my-Lou with AndOne, but he was a perfect fit for the Suns system and surprisingly averaging 5 APG and thats pretty impressive when your only playing 16 MPG, including a career high of 15 Assists in his 2nd Game with the Suns.

NOT: After a breakout month in November, 38 Year Old Veteran Grant Hill injured himself during a game in a win against the Jazz, but has now fully recovered from his ankle injury. Hill is just averaging 10 PPG last month (December) and has just not being himself on the court. But still his numbers are still outstanding despite the age his playing at and also at the level his playing at. Another player who has not been himself on the court is the "Polish Hammer" Marcin Gortat, also after having a breakout month in November, after recording double-double after another his number had dropped in December, just averaging 6 RPG in December but yet again, overall his having a breakout season so far.

LeBron James is yet again the Player of the Month for the Eastern Conference and yet his team is not moving neither upward or downward, they remain steady but the Miami Heat are still a force in the NBA. With James at his top form, the Heat would just continue to go on the road and smash 'em. But the Spurs,Celtics and the Magic are still on top of them, there's still a lot of time for the Heat to be called championship contenders.

West Player of The Month:

Like LeBron James, Durant made it two in a row winning the West Player of the Month, its no surprise really. A guys as young as Durant who is currently averaging 30 PPG and almost 10 RPG is really impressive, but one of his major weakness so far is his passing, Durant is just averaging a single assist per game and thats not a good sign. Meaning Durant is more capable on a team relying on a one man team, but i think Durant is forgetting he has company with him every game, Westbrook and Harden have evolved their game into a higher level and Durant got to be more like a team player.

East Rookie of The Month:

Number 1 overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, John Wall has got to be a great fit for Washington but needs more help offensively, and in that case Josh Howard hasn't delivered for them just yet. John Wall leads all Rookie Point Guards in Scoring and Assists this season and is no.1 in voting so far for the Rookie of the Year but trailing him is college buddy DeMarcus Cousins.

West Rookie of The Month:

Also a Number 1 Overall Pick, but in the year 2009 NBA Draft. Blake Griffin also making it two in a row many criticized Griffin for winning last month's Rookie of the Month award and it should had been DeMarcus Cousins. But Griffin has finally proved them wrong this time and is now worthy for the award, Griffin upped his numbers and maintained a 9.7 RPG and has been a consistent deliverer for the Clippers.

Rajon Rondo? Leading the race, not too shabby for the youngster but its true, young Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo is leading the right way for the Celtics to climb back to the NBA Finals and get the 18th for the Celtics Dynasty. He might not average flashy numbers, but like Steve Nash in his MVP seasons, his team play is what make the Celtics in the top of the league.

Defensive Player of the Year:

Still, i don't think there's a better defensive player in the league right now in the NBA, Dwight Howard is gonna leave a mark and make it three in a row if he wins it this season. Rebounding and his scoring presence inside and his shot blocking skills is what he's truly made of. Even though his not leading the league in blocks, his still noted as the NBA's great shot blockers in his generation.

Most Improved Player:

Filling in Raymond Felton's shoes for the Bobcats is what he's filling in for the Bobcats and he has not disappointed the Bobcats so far early this season. Augustin and Jackson has lead this young Bobcats squad to the 5th Seed so far in the eastern conference and is trying to win its 2nd straight playoff appearance. Also Suns Center Marcin Gortat has been in line for the award.

Sixth Man of The Year:

Playing behind Antawn Jamison might be a bit hard to fill in but not for JJ Hickson, despite a losing record early this season for the LeBron-less/King-less Cleveland Cavaliers. Hickson has been playing at his best.

Rookie of The Year:

The showdown between Griffin and Wall? What about former Kentucky stars? Wall and Cousins, before they were teammates but now they are in a very different situation now, its every rookies dream to win the rookie of the year award because you can only win it once and no one wants to miss it. Griffin has missed last season and was taken over by Tyreke Evans, but can DeMarcus Cousins make it two in a row for the Kings. But with Wall doing the John Wall, Griffin and Cousin's chances might be fading away this early.
