Stealth With Another High Scoring Night
Seattle Stealth at Memphis Grizzlies: 144-122
Preview | Boxscore | Recap | Highlights
January 26, MEMPHIS (AP) – Andrew Bogut pumped his right fist in the air as the small pocket of Seattle Stealth fans cheered just above the entry to the tunnel to the locker room. He walked past former Stealth coach Gary Payton and ignored him. Payton took offence and threw a towel at him.
Bogut turned around and shrugged before continuing on. He later told a reporter, “I don’t even know Gary.” Bogut wasn’t traded to Seattle until after Payton had famously quit for unknown reasons.
As the Grizzlies coach; Payton didn’t pay the Seattle team a visit. However, that should not be any surprise as everyone knows that he has bad blood and a few bones to pick with the organisation. And everyone knows that both sides will never agree to retire his jersey as the Sonics don’t exactly exist anymore. Payton’s hate of the current Seattle franchise was apparent as he said before he left the arena, “They’re stinking up this building. They’re all (expletive).”
Bogut nearly had another triple double as team captain Kevin Durant scored 38 points to lead the Stealth to a 20 point romp against Memphis. The Stealth did not break a sweat as they scored 144 points and won their 25th straight game. Durant had his own jab at his former coach, “Someone is just jealous of my success.”
“I meant our success,” Durant eventually added.
Notes: The Stealth visit the Rockets in Houston in their next game… Durant has made it clear that he is aiming to win another scoring title this season… It was revealed that Stealth coach George Karl had a bit of a health scare last week and was admitted into hospital. He was later released after undertaking some tests..
