How to add an alpha layer?

i ve seen some tuts about this one , but i can't seem to understand it , is there any video tut or any other tutorial that would help me make it . Also how does an alpha layer helps the cyberface? Thank You!

I don't think there's any video tutorials but if it's cyberfaces you're talking about, this is how Ryan explained it to me:

It's worked out fine when I've tried a few conversions.

you need copy your rgb channel on alpha channel(you must open your cf in dds format).

head doesn't shining, when cf got alpha layer.

alpha layer makes the cf's more shadow.

I realise that. What I meant was that the alpha layer tutorial I was linking to is suitable for cyberfaces.

I've never used that method in the conversions that I've done, maybe someone else can give you some advice there.
