(3-3) Bringing The Thunder - Hiatus (RROD)

Postby buzzy on Mon Jan 18, 2010 7:20 am

Helly everybody.
I got really inspired by all the stories around here, so I'm going to start one myself.
Even though I started this basketball game year with NBA Live 10, I returned to 2k because of all the patching on Live's part, which completely messed up the game.

So yeah, I'm back with another association/dynasty, and if you remember any of my previous stories, you'll know that I'm not really the person that does long-lasting dynasties. Chances are, you don't even remember them. So I'm really, really poised to make this one work.

The recap format is going to be a little different this time. I am going to tell you what games I'm going to play the following (in-game) week, and depending on votes, I'm going to do an in-depth coverage on one particular game. The other ones, no matter if I play or simulate them, are only going to get a short coverage. (I believe Mark. does it the same way.)

Lastly, my team choice.
As the title probably gave it away, I've settled for the Thunder. They're fun to play with with all the young eyplosive guys. Plus it seems to be in at the moment taking teams with projected losing records. :P

Oh right, a very important note at the end: I will post some stuff right away, but there are two factors that keep will keep me from starting the actual association for now. One is school, I've got some upcoming exams. Secondly I want this thing with the patches settled before starting this. So don't expect too many updates within the next 7 to 10 days (Don't ask me why I'm even posting this already, I just felt like doing it now ;) ).

If it wasn't for Kevin Ollie, I think that would be the youngest team ever :P

Nice team selection buzzy (Y)

Thanks guys. It was really hard to decide on a team with such a bad logo and the fact that I have no alternative jerseys to choose from made it even harder, but I just couldn't resist thier roster. :P

Season preview should be up tomorrow, or by Tuesday at the latest.

I'm looking forward to this. And I too am in the same dilemma as you were with LIVE. I am thinking of picking up 2k10 this week at gamestop. They went down on price it's under 40. http://www.gamestop.com/Browse/Search.aspx?N=141+169

General manager: Sam Presti
Head coach: Scott Brooks

The Oklahoma City Thunder finished last season at the bottom of the Northwest Division and thirteenth in the Western Conference. It was the first season they played in Oklahoma City, after moving roughly 2000 miles from Seattle to Oklahoma City in the off-season before, being renamed from Sonics to Thunder in the process.
A year, a new coach and some new players later, the Thunder is looking to make an impact in the Western Conference, continuing their quest to reach the Playoffs for the first time in their short history. Whether or not they’re going to be able to mix it at the top we obviously don’t know yet, but we ought to take a closer look at your Oklahoma City Thunder for the 2009/10 season.

The heart and indisputably the Thunder’s franchise player is third year Small Forward Kevin Durant. The former second round draft pick is only 21 years of age, but already one of the league’s best scorers. Durant was 6th in the league in scoring last season, averaging just over 25 points per game. We can only suggest that this number is only going to increase in the upcoming season. While trying to get far with his team next season, without a doubt a personal goal for Durant has to be to get selected for his first ever All-Star Game, which will be held next February in Arlington, Texas.

On the Point Guard position we have Russell Westbrook. This exciting sophomore has already won the fans’ hearts over with his mind blowing athleticism. Even though the former UCLA Bruin is 6 foot 3 inches tall, he is a very good all-rounder. Last season, he was the first rookie since Chris Paul in the 2005/06 season to record a triple-double. He scored 17 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out 10 assists in victory over Dallas, on March 2nd 2009.

At Shooting Guard there is Swiss national player Thabo Sefolosha, who is going to battle over the starting spot with rookie James Harden. Harden, from Arizona State, was drafted third overall in this year’s draft and is perhaps the most complete player of all the draftees. We are excited how his arrival will work out for the Thunder.

Projected Starters on Power Forward and Center are Jeff Green and Serbian native Nenad Kristic, respectively. Green, same as Durant, a three year player who was drafted just three picks behind the former in the 2007 draft. He increased his PPG average by 7 points from his rookie season to his sophomore one.
To see what other players are on this year’s Thunder squad, scroll up to the Roster section.

Various analysts predict and comment on how the Thunder are going to finish the upcoming season:

David ThorpeIt's easy to drool over the expected growth of Durant. But I'm also excited about Westbrook. We saw what Rondo's freakish athleticism did in Year 2, so expecting something amazing from Westbrook is fair. Management and coaching are stressing defense -- will we see it?
Northwest: 4th
Western: 11th

Jalen RoseThey have a young exciting core in Durant, Westbook and Green. Rookie Harden will slash to the basket and perform like a top rookie in this year's class
Northwest: 5th
Western: 13th

John HollingerThe young Thunder are likely a year away from breaking into the West's top 8, but they're pretty close already after adding yet another strong component (James Harden) to the emerging Durant-Green-Westbrook nucleus
Northwest: 4th
Western: 10th

DENVER, Ocotober 26th
The Oklahoma City Thunder is travelling to Denver, Colorado for its only preseason game to take on its Northwest division rivals, the Nuggets.
The Nuggets started as hot as if they were still in last season’s playoffs, largely because of the stellar play of swingman JR Smith. JR made 8 of the Nuggets’ first 10 points, including two three pointers, while the Thunder was struggling to get anything to go. That was not the way they sought to start their season.

Coach Brooks had to talk things over early, but with success. Not only were they able to catch up with the Nuggets, but thanks to some terrific defense in the second quarter, Nuggets guard Chauncey was held to just 2 points in the first half, and finally some working offense, the Thunder was able to take the lead late in the second. Kevin Durant and rookie James Harden, who had a solid NBA debut, combined for 16 points in the second period. The score at the half was 44-41 in favor of Oklahoma City.

Russell Westbrook goes in for the ridiculous up and under layup in traffic. His Thunder lost though.

So far, so good.

In the third though, the Nuggets started to take over. Led by JR Smith, the Nuggets’ offense was simply too much to handle for the Thunder, as they scored 60 points over the last two quarters, evenly distributed at 30 each.

Main reason for this was sloppy passing on the part of the Thunder. 15 Turnovers as opposed to 6 Nuggets giveaways, ultimately lead to many Nuggets buckets

“Not taking care of the basketball will give you that”, Nuggets coach Scoot Brooks said after the game.

Russell Westbrook was going nuts in the third, scoring 10 straight Thunder points, but those flashes of brilliance weren’t enough against a well balanced Nuggets team, which routed the Thunder for their first preseason victory.
