After the demo of NBA Live, I was pumped, especially compared to the NBA 2k demo, I thought that Live had retaken the crown.
After playing the full version, i'm very disappointed, to me, it just didnt have the same 'feel' as the demo. it felt more arcadey.
The game is still just too arcadey, too easy to get inside for a dunk, the spacing of the court feels wrong and the AI just isnt as good as NBA 2k's AI.
There are just too many little gripes for me, the inability to block a shot from behind, the annoying 'contextual' systems which try to predict what you want to do but just it wrong, the lack of a post up button.
But I don't want to sound overly negative, this is what Live DID get right..
- passing, the passing in this game is probably the best i've ever used, the ability to control a teammate off the ball, or to use the right stick to direct your pass is awesome.
- Shooting, I feel the shooting is much better this year with having to time your release.
- Off the ball movement, the players move off the ball a lot more naturally and will free themselves up, sometimes though it feels as though there is some kind of modifier where a good shooter like Kobe or Allen willalways hit the shot because they are running off a screen.
I hope a patch comes out or something that will improve the game and hopefully add a postup button.
My review this year: 7.3/10
Final Line: "Close EA, but no cigar."
