The NBA Live game has not been remotely decent, since 2006. Since then, it has been the same thing every year. They might change the graphics a little, but the game-play is hot garbage. Take a look at Madden, the franchise mode is so complex and well developed. In Madden you can have multiple team franchises, online leages, and the off-season allows you to relocate teams, sign actually coaches, restructure players contracts, and even sign sponsorships. NBA live does none of this, the franchise mode has no depth to it at all and this game mode to me, is the most important. In the franchise mode you can resign your players, try to sign free agents, but cap room is always a problem, (option to restructure contracts) you can also purchase better coaches with "dynasty points" (huge waste of time) and after that the next season starts. The off-season in NBA live does little to help your team improve.
Also trading during the season or off-season is almost impossible without giving up too much, and draft picks don't help out much at all.
The gameplay is not bad, but I think blocks and dunks can be improved alot. First off I think players should actually dunk the ball when they are under or near the basket, but missing layups time after time is just inexcusable. I am not talking about average players, this is Dwight Howard, Shaq, and Amare Stoudamire. I also think players should actually get dunked on, this was a nice feature in NBA live 2006 (i think). The blocks in NBA Live are weak, they should be more forceful and should be pinned to the backboard. In my opinion, NBA live needs a full face lift. I get my hopes up every year for this game and I hit rock bottom every year. Im not saying I want NBA live to be like NBA Jam, but the game is plain out boring. Look at Madden's complexity and how well it has done over the years, that's all I'm saying.
