Mobley Signs Point Toward Retirement

Cuttino Mobley appears to be leaning towards retiring due to a potentially fatal heart condition, the New York Daily News reports.

The Knick guard, acquired in a trade involving Zach Randolph, is believed to be making a decision about his future this week.

"It's his health," Knicks president Donnie Walsh said. "It's his call."


Marbury Resolution Next Week?

ESPN Radio's Jon Rothstein is reporting that a person close to Stephon Marbury told him that Marbury expects to reach a buyout settlement with the Knicks within a week.

Once released, Marbury is expected to sign on with the Heat, Celtics or Magic.

Given Jameer Nelson's somewhat disappointing season so far, Alan Hahn of Newsday thinks Marbury could wind up in Orlando. Hahn believes the Heat and Celtics are not likely destinations. The Mavericks may be in the mix as well.

Veteran Guard Averaged 16.0 Points Per Game During 11-Year NBA Career

NEW YORK, December 11, 2008 – New York Knicks guard Cuttino Mobley has informed the team that he will retire from professional basketball following extensive medical evaluations. It has been determined that Mobley has a heart condition known as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy that has progressed to the point where he can longer play.

“The specialists I have seen made it clear that my heart condition has gotten worse, and I cannot continue to play professional basketball without putting my health and life in serious danger,” Mobley said. “As much as I want to keep playing in the NBA, I have no choice but to follow the advice of my doctors and step away from the League. I have had the privilege of playing in the NBA for 10 years, but my health and family must come first, and it is time to move on to the next stage in my life.

“This has definitely been a shocking situation for me, but I want my fans, friends and loved ones to know that I will be fine. My career has been a blessing and I am grateful to have had this experience.”

Mobley was acquired by New York, along with Tim Thomas, from the Los Angeles Clippers on Nov. 21, 2008 in exchange for Mardy Collins and Zach Randolph. Mobley never appeared in a game with the Knicks while undergoing additional medical testing prior to his retirement.

Mobley, 6-4, 215-pounds, was selected by the Houston Rockets in the second round of the 1998 NBA Draft. The Philadelphia, PA-native ends his NBA career with averages of 16.0 points and 3.9 rebounds in 747 career games over 11 seasons with Houston, Orlando, Sacramento and L.A. Clippers.

The knicks will now look to strengthen there roster by the way of a trade or free agent pick up.

Duhon wrapped up a great home debut with 7 points 10 assists and 1 steal and fellow new comers Harrington and Thomas added 26 and 21 after playing a steady flowing game of lead change after lead change the knicks pulled away with a little help from Nate Robinson who had 10 in the 4th 29 in total, the heat were lead as usual by there star Wade who refused to let the game fade out of reach with 22 points.

Its a good point and something i didnt take into account when i waved Marbury and Mobley mainly due to 2k ripping me off but it wont let me sign any free agents at ALL for being over the cap which even in real life who allow me to sign players for the min so after seeing that i was now short of guards and hated using Roberson i wanted a guard i could work with.

Trade ideas for a big??

I was interested after reading in todays ny post that the knicks will make a run for Daiw and Bell and many believe that the Bobcats trade for them was not that they wanted them but more that they had better trade vaule and they could be looking a swap for David Lee and Eddy Curry.
