Seen Role Models and Religulous this week.

Role Models was alright: pretty standard fare: nothing to keel over or call genius but funny enough to keep me smiling or snickering. Only really one scene to get all out laughs but thats alright

Religulous I was actually disappointed in. I love Bill Maher usually and it was his standard fare so I didn't go in expecting "fair and balanced" views on religion. But he just seemed to miss his own point. He was trying to show how closedminded and absurd some things are and ended up showing just as much of his own intolerance as theirs. He usually at least ATTEMPTS to cover it up. His point in the movie also that religion will be the death of mankind doesnt really bother me all that much: i think he just is overgeneralizing the nuts and applying it to the everday people. Religious extremism will kill us....not religion

I guess that one went straight to DVD, which is usually not a good sign, but "Cleaner" was alright. It's with Samuel L. "you like my beer motherfucker??!!" Jackson, Eva Mendes and Ed Harris, and the plot was pretty clever, although the ending was a little obvious.

Just saw Garden State and Broken Flowers. I had actually seen the latter before.

I must say, they're both pretty depressing, as in not very exciting, but they're both really well thought and executed (you can't really expect otherwise from Bill Murray or Natalie Portman) and deal with issues I've actually dealt with (and am still dealing with) these past few years (I suffer from depersonalization and derealization so it's all kind of amplified too.)

Watched Get Smart and Pineapple Express. Get Smart was pretty funny, and Pineapple Express was just hilarious.

Watched Mirrors earlier to day. It was actually a good horror film. A nice mix of spooky atmosphere, jumpy scenes, and a good ending.

For the camera man not to have spasm attacks as soon as the action is about to begin.

What's the point of the action then? Just let the actors stand there and shake the camera tons. I'll feel the same effect, didn't get to see what the fuck was going on the first time around as it is.

Decided to watch Salaam Bombay! after my initial viewing back in 1993, at the time I didn't understand a lot of it and I do believe I fell asleep on the living room rug.

So rewatched it last night and really enjoyed it. I didn't like Mira Nair's Kama Sutra but didn't mind her Monsoon Wedding, but Salaam Bombay! is in a class of it's own. It's sad to say that the situation in India is still this way. Perhaps not as large scaled anymore, but it's still there. When you've got such a vast population and so much corruption, I suppose that's a fate that's hard to escape.

Also watched Pixote, similiar to SB (or vice versa actually) and also a very good watch. Was sad to read the protagonist died in 7 years later in a shootout with the police.

I think I liked Pixote more than Cidade De Deus, but they're both pretty high.

Just watched Gran Torino on JTV and it was pretty good, though "Toad's" acting sorta ruined Clint's mood of determination towards the end.
Anyone know the record for racist remarks ever made in a film? I think Clint's role alone could shatter that record.
And his son makes a short appearance as a "wigger" and ends with Clint calling him a pussy.

For som reason, my wife wanted to go see The Day The Earth Stood Still, so I saw it yesterday and I was underwhelmed to say the least...I kept waiting for some twist, something that'd make it a little bit more intruiguing, but really it's been done many times before and it all falls flat in the end. Somewhat entertaining I guess, but there's really not much to it...

I just watched Good Luck Chuck via cable tv this past evening. I searched the internet and found out that the feedback from the media was widely negative and the film was criticized heavily. I dont have personal comments to make about the film, but I guess I can say that I enjoyed it at some points throughout the film.

So with netflix i've been busy
1. Futurama-Bender's Game:
Please for the love of god Matt Groening, stop while you're ahead with a series...just once, all i ask. It just was not funny and not original and didnt feel like futurama. And there was odd things like Leela starts to get off from a shock collar that shocks her when she's violent...wth?
2. Wall-E
Finally saw this movie that everyone raved about. It was good but not like "Holy crap best thing i've ever seen good." it was cute, it was clever, but it was a little bit too slow to get going. Although some nice throwbacks to 2001...Pixar really doesnt put out bad flicks and this one keeps that trend alive, but as a kid: i would've had trouble getting through it.
3. The Incredible Hulk
So the Edward Norton version? What the first movie should've been. It was very nicely done, the characters felt real enough, and werent as terribly done as in the first one. Was very pleased by it.
4. The Fifth Element
Even though its on tv every week or so i've never actually watched this. Outside of Chris Tucker's character being annoying as all fuck, not a terrible scifi flick. Not the greatest thing ever made, but Bruce Willis fighting aliens for about 2 hours? I'm ok with that sometimes.
5. The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters
Funny little documentary flick benji has raved about. Not the greatest thing ever but entertaining enough.
6. Gonzo: The Life and Work of Hunter S Thompson
Not total coverage, but the good doctor never was one for the details of every assignment. Some nice footage of the doc, interviews with friends and family, and a good summation of his life/legacy. I really enjoyed the interviews with his son and ex-wife they had because i hadnt seen them talk about him before

Hot Fuzz.
You should not watch this movie while eating unless you want to choke from laughter.
Good action-comedy, has both action and comedy unlike some movies of the same genre which lacks one or the other or both.
I know it's wrong but I never laughed so hard at old people being kicked in the face.

I saw Quantam of Solace a few days ago. There's FAR LESS action then I expected, plus it seemed to go by rather fast. But overall, it wasn't too bad. The ending has an interesting twist to it. I saw Get Smart a few weeks ago as well. It was pretty funny. The story was pretty interesting too, surprisingly a bit unpredictable at some points.

1. Wall-E - As good as everyone has been raving. Possibly the best G-rated movie I have ever seen. (Y)
2. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - Not worth seeing in theaters. Not bad, but with a great cast, premise and director, I was expecting much, much more. Overlong and a bit dull. :|
3. The Incredible Hulk - Wasn't expecting much and still ended up disappointed. Very dull and predictable. Really no reason for this film to exist. I actually liked Hulk 03 better! (N)

Apparently, "The Wrestler" from Darren Oronovsky (who made "Requiem For A Dream" and "The Fountain") will really be worth seeing, so I'm waiting for that one.
I saw Hamlet 2, from the producers of Little Miss Sunshine, and it was pretty hilarious. Steve Coogan can be quite the funny fan.
Also, Traitor is a great movie, Don Cheadle is just amazing in any role.

The Day the Earth Stood Still was interesting, decent use of about almost 2 hours though, and at such cheap ticket prices (think it was $3 bucks or so), wasn't bad. Also been watching some of the other movies like Hot Fuzz, Ali G: Indahouse, Kung Fu Hustle, Hellboy II, and stuff.

Saw hamlet 2 and was pleasantly surprised. It's a nice little fuck you to the Dead Poets Society/Dangerous Minds esque movies
also so Pineapple Express-not the caliber of superbad, but me and my buddies were dying watching seth rogen and james franco frantically try not to get murdered: worth a view if you like their other stuff.
