Sydney's got the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and the Olympic stadium to name just a few. The Gold Coast has amusement parks and some amazing beaches, Surfer's Paradise is (as the name would imply) great if you like the beach as well. If it's nightlife you're after, I'd recommend one of the capitals (Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne etc).

All i know is do not go to Adelaide: there was nothing to do there at all but drink in the hotel when I was there...I hear Sydney and Brisbane both are fantastic though from the Americans i've known that've gone over there repeatedly

I've never been to Adelaide myself but I've heard similar things; I'd recommend Sydney and Brisbane over it was well if some nightlife is what you're after.

I'm already saving up money so that when I turn 21, I will travel different places in the world. I will start off in America, most likely Chicago and LA being my first two destinations. I want to go to Australia, Europe, Mexico, Hawaii. I want to live my youth traveling a lot.

I'd like to have a proper overseas vacation. Doing the community events the last few years has been fun and you can't complain about the price, but most of the time is taken up by the conference itself (and understandably so) so you don't get a whole lot of time to go sightseeing.

If you're coming to Australia, you'd consider the major cities like Melbourne and Sydney....

Then you've got your natural attractions, Great Barrier Reef (Queensland), Ayers Rock & Kakadu (Northern Territory), etc.

If you want beaches, it's not hard to find great beaches....a lot better than any beaches that I saw in Hawaii....

If you want sports, you'd go to Melbourne....

All depends on what you are after I suppose....if you can't see everything, I'd suggest Melbourne, Sydney, Great Barrier Reef/Whitsundays Islands, Kakadu & maybe something in the Outback, maybe Ayers Rock....IMHO, with these, you'll get a good mix of what Australia is about....

then head to New Zealand, check out Bay of Islands, Queenstown & Milford Sounds....lots more, but yep, good stuff (Y)

If you're looking for nightlife, avoid Canberra.

If you want to try and overthrow the government with a military coup however, go to Canberra.
