Official NLSC NBA Live 2010 Wishlist Thread

Talk about NBA Live 10 here.

Official NLSC NBA Live 2010 Wishlist Thread

Postby Andrew on Mon Nov 17, 2008 11:38 am

Since NBA Live 09 has been out for over a month and it's in our best interests to get a Wishlist in to the production team as soon as possible, here is the official NBA Live 2010 (or NBA Live '10, if EA decides to go that way) Wishlist Thread. Please note that any ideas posted here in the NBA Live Wishlist section will be considered for inclusion but this is the main thread for compiling wishes and suggestions.

We'll be following the same format as last year with three different sections: Essentials, Things We'd Also Like To See and Things to Fix & Avoid.

Essentials: Things you feel are absolutely vital to improve the game, whether it be fixing an existing feature, adding to an existing feature or a brand new feature you feel the game needs.

Things We'd Also Like To See: Stuff that isn't quite as important and the game could do without but you'd still like to see in the game.

Things to Fix & Avoid: Key bugs and annoying issues that must be stamped out and avoided in the next game.

In organising the wishes by this method, we'll try and go with the consensus. Even if you personally feel that your suggestion is the most pressing issue, it may not be the case. Please do not take it personally, our aim is to try and provide the development team with an accurate representation of the community's feelings towards the game and what needs to be improved. Feel free to suggest your ideas under a certain category but please note that in the final edit, it may be sorted as a higher or lower priority based on the general feedback of the community. Please also note that as usual, we're not including fights and unsportsmanlike technicals in the list. The NBA won't allow either in the game...period. You can post it but we don't include it in the Wishlist because there's no chance of it happening.

With that said, start posting your ideas, I'll be posting mine shortly. Remember you can keep posting ideas for inclusion right up until we compile the list, after which point you're still welcome to post in this section, the ideas just won't appear on our "official" Wishlist.

Some things from the other thread with some added.

Essentials:
- Smoother gameplay; better transitions from animation to animation.
- More animations.
- Realistic animations. i.e. no lay-ups from the freethrow line.
- Better height realisation. i.e. No Allen Iverson blocking Tracy McGrady (seriously sucks in online)
- Better passing animations. Players should be able to catch a pass on the run (if need be).
- 1 on 1, 2 on 2, 21, H-O-R-S-E, etc... in Acadamy mode.
- Better rim/net animations. Not every shot in the NBA went in as a swish.
- More collision animations/hard fouls that guarantee no shot will get off/basket will be made. Too easy for players to run up court and press the lay-up button at the three-point line and waltz right through for the easy score. Weight should also be a factor.
- Pull-up jumper animation. On a fast break or off a ankle-breaker or off a screen there SHOULD be an animation where the player has a pull-up jumper animation where the player takes two steps and shoots it using momentum to carry him up from the fast motion.
- Big block animations. For the Josh Smith's and the Tayshaun Prince's. On the fast-break if the player is in the right position they can come from behind for the huge rejection. If not done right can be a huge foul.
- Bring back the ability to change the shot in mid-air by pressing the dunk/lay-up button to avoid the block.
- Better atmosphere. The start of the season and the NBA Finals should sound different.
- More interesting commentary. Sometimes it can be such a bore or so annoying that I have to mute my TV to play better/concentrate.
- Crowd attendence based on how well the team is playing in Dynasty Mode. More wins, more crowd.
- Cutscenes like Live 2004.
- Create a play.

Things We'd Also Like To See:
- Career mode.
- Situation Dynasty? Maybe they could have a feature where, they randomly assign you to a team during the season because the GM/Coach was fired. The team is on a losing/winning record, unhappy players, rebuilding etc... Win by achieveing goals and you get a trophy (PS3) or a achievement thingy (Xbox). Better suited for players who want more interest in Dynasty mode and gives you something to work for.
- Crowd wearing home colours, Usually.
- More player chatter on the court.
- A button combination to throw a fancy pass. Maybe after burning a defender and another defender tries to help, throw a fancy pass that the defense doesn't see/anticipate such as a behind the head for an open shot.

Things to Fix/Avoid:
- Edit defense and offense stratagies in timeouts.
- Players shouldn't have to go to a specific spot to inbound after a basket. Let them inbound from anywhere.
- When pumpfakeing players inch forward.
- Still a lot of shots going behind/on the side of the backboard. NBA players should be smarter then that.
- Still animations where a player goes through another.
- Any shot that goes bounces off the backboard in a game is usually guaranteed NOT to go in. Fix it please.
- To many contested/shots after a collision go in. Fix it please.

Essentials: Superstar and Owner modes from Madden. I want another incentive to play the game besides winning the game / season.
Create a team, listen to the last 8 years of wishlists
New animations, maybe not all new, but I can't take 09 seriously after seeing dunk animations from Live 2004 and 06 in it.

Things We'd Also Like To See: Natural Motion or some innovative realistic animation system.
Street Mode to fill the void of no more NBA Street games
1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, Horse
Ability to shoot around in the academy with XBL/PSN friends
oh, and a PC version

Things to Fix & Avoid: Jerkiness between animations + enforce realistic momentum.
Avoid/take out any animation that uses 2 players (ie dunk ons, collisions, closely guarding) instead have single player animations that work with it or procedural (Natural Motion) animations.
Opinions are my own.

Well, I haven't played NBA Live 09, since it didn't come out on the PC, so there's wish.

Make the NBA Live 2010 for the PC! And give us the "ps3 & xbox360" version. There is no more market for the horrible previous gen game on the PC. At least I won't be buying it...

Add the NBDL! Especially for the "Be a pro" mode. So you can get sent down to the "minors" for some playing time, if you aren't getting any in the pros. The licenses shouldn't be too hard to gather, since it's basically the same organization as the NBA! Do you already have these?

To the "Be a pro" mode. Make it fuller... I've seen the NHL version of this, but it lacks depth. There should be some "situations" that rise up, be it with team mates, coaches, ownership, that aren't directly linked with the actual game. Also use a happiness or morale meter. So if you train hard, your happiness takes a dip and you aren't as effective since you are not happy. Off-days or partying etc. Buying a nice home or a car or something would then again raise it. So you need to balance these things on the schedule. Have team events and practices in there too, so that you cannot "optimize" as well. And you could really pump the iron during the fall and start concentrating on the game performance after the all-star break to make a push in the play-offs. Summer schedules, trades etc. do happen in real life and they should happen in this game as well. Maybe add "friends" to the players, so that if your friend gets traded, your morale gets a drop or if you get traded to another team with some of your friends, you get a morale boost (these "situations above" would define your relationships with other players, since this is a "clean" EA game, enemies will probably not make the game, but closer friends are a positive thing). And you should start as a NBD Leaguer and not as an NBA player, or as a rookie, and be drafted, but not with that high stats to start with. Just make it so that it's not just playing games and expending experience points to advance your ratings. This game mode has been wished for such a long time, just get it right and a complete experience!

And that's it... Since I haven't played NBA Live 09, I cannot comment on the improvements or fixes, but just no more PS2 version for the PC and give us a good Be a PRO mode...

I'm not asking much, I just want a good game to play with. I'm still trucking around with Live 06 for the PC, since it is the best version for the PC out there...

Ea please fix the simulation stats!!! Just because there's a lot of scoring doesn't mean there should be hardly any blocks or steals. And maybe even bring back the freestyle superstars. Ever since live got rid of the freestyle superstars, defense means almost nothing. In 08 when i went to create a player, you could choose from ever freestyle superstar ability except and inside stopper and outside stopper. When there were freestyle superstars, there was more defense. Teams got more than 4 steals and 4 blocks per game. In real basketball teams always gets steals and blocks per game but in the past 2 live series, for simulation stats sometimes teams won't get 1 block even when they had players who can block. Please bring back defense!!!

Simulation stats are at least decent on the Xbox 360/PS3 version though. I'm not sure they'll continue the PS2 version with 2010 but then that's what we said the last couple of years too.

1. Instead of using triangle (Y for xbox) for play calling, use it for a jump-stop, quick spin, or step-back move
2. The ability to pass after hitting the dunk/layup button
3. Run-outs on defense. A run-out is going for a shot block, but then running down the court for a easy dunk. the counter for this is the next wish.
4. The ability to follow your own shot, or fall back to avoid the run-out.
5. Tip jams, but make it realistic. If it's wide open, tip jam. If it's a bit of a stretch, tip in try. If it's crowded, rebound. If you are getting boxed out, you might be called for over the back. It should basically be the rebound button.
6. Better Defense. On the pick and roll, you should have the choice to go over or under the screen, trap the dribbler, have your big man pop and recover, or have your big man play off. And this can be done with the L2 button (LT for xbox), just like the pick and roll control. It's the ability to control 2 players on defense as well. Another way to defend the pick and roll is help defense.
7. Better fast breaks. I notice the wing players tend to go wide instead of going towards the hoop on fast breaks. If the ball is brought down the middle on a 3 on 2 break, the players should be able to make the correct correct cuts according to the defense. Then, there should be a trail-man for the last option.
8. Ally oops are better this year because it's not an automatic play or an instant turnover, but I think it's hard to determine when it is the right time for an ally oop. I think that the player who is able to receive the ally oop pass, should point to the sky as he cuts to the basket.
9. Quick shots. This can be a new feature. The ability to do a quick jump hook, or a quick, force-up shot to beat the clock. Sometimes I get the ball into the middle and I want a quick jump hook, but my guy does a slow shoulder fake and before I know it, it's 3 seconds in the key. The force-up shot animation should look like a force shot instead of the signature shot.
10. The ability to dive for loose balls and dive to save the ball from going out of bounds. If you push the dive button to save the ball, the animations should change depending on the situation. If the ball is about to bounce out, but you are in a position where you don't have to dive, the animation should show the player reaching over. If the ball is recovered by your guy, the animation should show your player off balance and about to fall out. Then you should have the option to call timeout before you step out, just try and save it by throwing it backwards, try and throw it off a player, or try and stay balanced

-Some parts i've seen in previous games is on dunks it is realistic when the dunk hits or goes through the rim.

-Features i would like to see as an individual be included is
expansion teams or move your team in a dynasty. Be able to put each individual on a specific workout plan. Such as for post players stronger and the game will automatically change their body through progression.
-Being able to talk players out of retirement. Possibly go back to previous retired players from a couple years before and ask to join team.
-Change the starting 5 to different types. Such as 4 guard with 1 post for example. This could also be included as scouting other teams and seeing other teams lineup. Put a bigger lineup. Don't always have the traditional PG, SG, SF, PF, and C. maybe change it up and have 2 PG's and a SG with 2 PF's or 2 C's. You can change this if you have 2 good PF's and a Bad C you can do this by having the other PF start.
-change the shooting styles. just don't have one style. Shawn Marion shots awkward. include this in create a player.
-Summer league
-Realistic injuries. Seeing the actual break of a bone. Such as a broken leg. Probably not going to happen because of the E rating but i think it would be cool.
-Have technicals called and control how made a coach gets.
-Refs call unbalanced game. or have bad calls
-before the tip show the starting line ups on the bottom of the screen like they do on tv. show their face animations
-change roles of players. having a scorer primary job to score or if you have a scorer or 2 scorers for ex. the denver nuggets with allen iverson and carmelo anthony and they aquire another scorer like amare stoudamire change his role to rebounding and defensive threat.
-change center court logo from season to season and make changes in jersey along with create jerseys in 09
-pregame and halftime interviews w/ coaches or players depending on their performance.
-when scouting players internationally be able to find a "gem" or a player that can be picked late who is 1st round material.
-determination or work ethic attribute. Like ron artest would have poor determination and work ethic as for someone who puts in a lot of effort like tyler hansbrough that would be included in scouting before drafting
-have players get sick with the flu
-in create a player be able to get facial features through ps3's eye toy
-change coaches suit from game to game
-have retired player available for assistant or head coaching
-team meetings and video sessions with suspensions if players do not show up
-create a team. create a whole roster or selecting how good the team will be from default. such as juggernaut or crappy.
-broken backboards on dunks
-full court lobs or bounce passes between defenders
-in dynasty mode have players go through hot or cold streaks over a couple days to a week
-change positions. Allen Iverson a SG change to PG if no point guard
-increase vertical through training
-change offensive schemes depending on who is playing.
-be able 2 turn salary cap on or off. depending on in dynasty you want to be a juggernaut team or actually want a challenge.
-hair grows as time passes by a long with facial hair. in career mode you can pick which facial hair you want. however realistically if you want a beard you can't go from just clean shaven to a beard time has to pass by.
-game changing dunks that change momentum
-have game highlights of every game at each days end like sportscenter
-have short players only be able to dunk barley with one or 2 hands and taller players can't do flashy 360 dunks. short players can do flashy dunks if vertical is like really high around 40-42.
-Tall players like yao or that kenny george dude can dunk on their tippy toes include that for tall players.
-be able 2 have players for nfl or mlb join the league or have scheduling issues because of multi sport players.

Ok these are just a few ideas i actually have a lot more but i couldn't think of them. Lets see what everyone else has in mind.

Never going to happen. EA Sports cannot include those technical calls because the NBA allow won't allow it. It's a part of the game as we all know, but it's not a part of the game the image conscious NBA wants represented. It's unlikely they'll relax their attitude on that one anytime soon.

and to add it up... can we have this option in nba live 2010?
- online: there should be a rule that if you play online you must at least use 8-9 players. meaning you are required to make substitutions not just using the first five players on which for me is not realistic ballin' and if the user didn't make any substitutions, the game will automatically do it for him.
-online: and yeah, this will happened only (to make it more realistic) if the fatigue bar cannot be turned-off during online games) to avoid using turbo too much hehehe

1.Make players with unplayable injuries appear on the bench or on the crowd and they must wear suites.
2.Make bench players wear their team jacket and jogging pants(whatever that is called).
3.Give players their signature winnnig styles.
4.Outside the court cutscenes in dyansty mode.
5.Show players at their locker room during halftime.

Before worrying about interactive head bands, better fan animations, or realistic shoes could we have a game that doesn't crash and doesn't have IR roster bugs?

fix the arenas they need some work done
player bodies,skin color, and legs
add some emotion to the game like when kevin garnet does a dunk make him yell even when he goes for a block
add in some real exercise equipment to train your player when he is injured in dynasty mode

Just a note as we continue to compile wishes, it's probably a good idea if we go into as much detail as possible. It's all well and good to say fix this and that, but we should also be specific about what needs to be fixed and what we do and don't like, so that the Development Team knows where we're coming from and what we specifically want to see.

Random thoughts. . .

-use of the backboard of layups
-better block timings
-Smoother animations transitions
-More Jumpshots rather than Set Shots
-Re do the post moves
-The game is too "scripted" You know when your shot is going in and going to miss
-Better transition Defense
-Improve the help defense, computer still lacks this knowledge, you have to do it yourself
-Improve the swishes. Make jumpshots snap the mesh
-Improve the post moves
-Smoothen out the dribble controls so you can put in better pull up jump shots
- Improve the D, so that when dunks happen they will feel more rewarding
- Improve the on-the fly playcalling, it's too slow and unreliable
-Should be able to substitute during free throws
-We should be able to allocate our own minutes for auto substitution, also player rotations to see who get the most minutes off the bench
- Better crowd reactions to BIG plays, Sometimes the sound don't reflect what's on the court
- Out of bound magnet has to go.
-Some "tight-Rope" animations would be nice
- Some pushing fouls animations
- Rebound dunking, but realistic ones
- More simple but flashy dunks. Take out Windmills, they are unecessary
- Some players have big heads and skinny bodies, Roy Hibbert and Maceo Baston for example
- When you pump fake you move around, that has to be fixed
- Please improve the passing. there's tons of T.O. because of this
- Try to reduce the warping
- Better crowd animations, similar to March Madness where they look real
-Improved Half time and Pre-game stuff
- Allow us to import our own music to the soundtrack
- Better collision animations
-You have the player momentum in the game, but you have to do it properly
-The more momentum the players have, the bigger the play should be, on both offense and defense
-More realistic net/rim animations . . .Awkward shots should rattle in, ball doesn't always go over the shotclock

That's all I got for now. . .More to come

EDIT:

Here's some more. ..

-Quick pg's can switch speeds.
-Get rid of the lob passing and the slow passing
-Bring Back Gasol's jump shot from 08 lol
-Improve overall player movements
-Improve rim grabbing
-Back Iron brick for longer rebounds (especially for close shot
- Use of the backboard - Mainly for close shots to take out the HIGH arc layups (c'mon EA lol)
-Dive for loose balls
-More hustle animations, players sometimes stand around and watch the other team chase the ball down and get breakaways
-More responsive dribble controls
-

-Variety of animation packages for dribbling, passing, post moves, and dunks/layups, and celebrations. All selectable and editable for all players.
-Get rid of scripted cutscenes and have them play out in real time during the game, utilizing camera angles for presentation effect.
-Improve defense along the baseline, as it is easily exploited.
-Change the turbo button to an intensity modifier. It can be used with all aspects of the game like it is used for quickstrike anklebreakers.
-It can be used on defense to attempt a lunging steal, or a swat block, while without it a player would contest a shot with an outstretched arm.
-It could be used as a method to push back at a post player to make it harder for them to back you down.
-Holding the intensity modifier could be used to attempt a dunk or a tipin dunk during an offensive rebound attempt.
-The system would have to be risk/reward, with a penalty of fatigue if it is used too much, and more possibilities of fouls
-Extend the differences in the bodytypes. Currently, everyone looks like they have detailed muscles. Some NBA players have barely any definition in real life. Add options for wingspan length.
