User Profiles Tendencies

Talk about NBA 2K9 here, as well as all previous games in the NBA 2K series.

User Profiles Tendencies

i will play a few more games then i will share my profile for everyone to use. Everyone should share theirs and post up their tendencies so we can know if they play simulation or arcade game or both. Doing this is kinda like playing against a human player.

Have you actually played against your user profile assigned to a cpu team to see how well it works?

2K9 has a feature called VIP playback. What the game does is record your tendencies and statistics and various areas to your user profile, which is also called your vip profile. Profiles can be shared between people and you can assign a vip playback profile to a cpu team that you are playing against, and that team will play the game based on the tendencies in the vip playback profile. It's sort of like offline multiplayer.

There is something horribly wrong with vip playback/recording. I've always noticed some odd things when looking at my profile through the VIP viewer. I use spin moves and crossovers all the time and it only seems to record the hop step. Maybe if I press the actual spin and crossover buttons they will register in the profile. I tried watching/playing against my profile. Major bugs. I saw them dribble out the shotclock, and just idly dribble during plays alot. They would take 5-6 seconds to inbound then make two quick passes to the SF who would get to the wing and just dribble.

I play on Pro so every time I get the ball I pump fake, just because I might get the defender up, and my VIP thing says I rarely pump fake even though my tenancies show that is basically the only thing I do in the triple thread position.

My VIP was evidently tied to the keyboard, so I had nothing to show for any of the games Ive played. I remade it so it ties to the controller and played two association games, here it is for those who wanna mess around with it.

That's exactly what I am talking about. It doesn't record hesitations, spins, or crossovers, but it shows that the hop step is the only thing I do. I think it does record the triple threat moves, because when I stopped pumpfaking after every pass, I noticed it showed that I was doing the other things. I wonder if it only keeps tendencies for your last game.

Yeah, I can only speak for my own profile. Maybe the way someone else plays will result in a very playable profile. Maybe mine has a bug in it, who knows.

played against JAO user profile >>>

48 mins, pro, default gameplay settings
CPU=JAO.usr(denver) versus USER=myself(minesota)

Image
weak defense  jefferson almost got a triple double

noticeable scenario>>>JAOSMING USER PROFILE
- on the start of the jumpball(possession goes to denver) , the player who got the ball(billups) didn't moved at all
- jao user profile played slow tempo style
- very rare subtitution>> only the center pos. and shooting guard pos. are substituted
- weak defense
- alot of silly turnovers
- players waiting for the shotclock to expire before taking a shot( probably 7 to 8 times)
- players walking out of bounds ( 1 time )
- one on one plays implemented by cpu on Dahntay JONES(shooting guard)  (probably 7 times)

I'm going to say that the VIP playabck/recording feature is officially broken. I got the same thing when I watch mine against the cpu. After winning the tip, they just hold the ball until the last moment then they pass it. Several times they dribble the shot clock out or shoot before the buzzer.

Bumpage.

So I tried playing a full game against Jao's profile again now that I'm better with 2K9.

HOF
10 min. quarters
Team and Player Tendencies: nogster
Sliders: BlueLightning v2, some modification

I'm posting this because it was one of the most fun games I had. I used the Hawks while I uploaded Jao's VIP to the Celtics. It was close game up until the final two minutes! It challenging in both offense and defense.
The Celtics played excellent defense, every time I think I was open to drive, Garnett would come swooping in or Rondo would steal the ball as I go up for a shot. Even Scalabrine and Perkins looked good on help D. Marbury played D! The D was so good that rarely got an open fastbreak, all shots inside were contested.
On offense, Ray Allen was killing me with mid-range and 3 shots, while Pierce penetrated and shot. KG was good in the post in either scoring or setting up his teammates for the jumpers. Eddie House also did well.
The CPU "Jaosming" moved actively in both ends, more than the "plain" CPU (no VIP loaded). And they always took an open shot or pass the ball to a teammate when contested, which made it harder to defend.

No noticeable silly turnovers, as posted by someone above.
Obviously no weak defense. I went "aaw shite" when Rondo, KG, and Perk clobbered Joe Johnson as he went to the basket. KG was also swatting down alley-oop attempts.
They attacked every opening and passed if you try to stop them (drive and dish).
One-on-one plays were mostly with either one of the big three.

Notable fails of the Jao VIP was when the Celtics inbounded the ball after I made a basket. Rondo just stayed in our halfcourt, until I went close to him then he started to move and pass the ball.
There was no instance of them doing nothing letting the shot clock expire, but there was some instances where they just do nothing and let the clock run and when it's close to expiring they would quickly pass the ball to the lightly guarded player and shoot (as mentioned by the others above). That happened about two times per quarter.
Pierce got out of bounds in the corner of the baseline and sideline, but hard to tell if it was the VIP's stupidity or just part of the game because Pierce was being double teamed (he was killing us with drive and dishes). Same with House having a backcourt violation, he was being trapped by two players. Those are the only instances of the VIP going out of bounds.
Rondo always going for the reach-in steal. He got into foul trouble for most of the game. May be it's because of Jao's tendency?

The one major fail - the game was close up until the final two minutes alright, but during the final two minutes, the CPU didn't run any plays and just waited then pass and shoot (as mentioned above) when the clock was about to run out. Instead of trying to score to take the lead or tie the game (Ray Allen was keeping them in the game). I was enjoying the whole challenging game and then suddenly the AI became stupid for the final two minutes. Damn it. They did try intentionally fouling only to do the same waiting game once they got the ball back on offense.

I played trying to practice alley-oops in-game, that's why Bibby had a lot of assists and turnovers. I tried alley-oop attempts everytime Garnett is out. That's also the reason of the my high FG%. Since the Celtics had punishing defense, they had more fouls.

As posted above by Pdub, the VIP only records the user tendency of the last game played.
The VIP feature could have been fun despite its inadequacies in recording tendencies if only the CPU AI didn't act stupid during the final minutes.

I'll just leave you with this alley-oop from "Jaosming".
phpBB [video]

(There were other good plays like Pierce getting an alley-oop pass from Rondo and dunking over three people, and Pierce again doing an acrobatic shot - over three defenders again. I recorded it at a bad angle that's why I deleted it.)

Even though it was only an exhibiton game, the crowd was chanting "MVP" when Paul Pierce was at the line nearing the final minutes of the game. I thought the chanting of that only happened during playoffs/Finals.

(And I think this thread belongs in 2K9 General, just posted in here after a search)

 please tell me you saved that alleyoop as a replay so you can send it to me so I may wack off to it with my computer's graphics

Rondo always going for the reach-in steal. He got into foul trouble for most of the game. May be it's because of Jao's tendency?

May ruin 2k for you
I play by the 2k6 rule, where you get two steal attempts, with anyone, against anyone, and you will most likely never get a foul. then the third attempt will 90% give you a foul. So if the PG has it at the top, I try to steal twice with Rondo, and if I fail, I switch to Paul and try stealing twice again, knowing I won't get called for a foul. Default Sliders

and yea, I'll move this. This was posted before there were actual patches for this game
