Back up and running on a new server

Postby Andrew on Sat Oct 11, 2008 5:28 pm

For those who might be wondering where we've been...

We're pleased to say that we are now fully operation again! The reason for the downtime is that we have moved to a new server hosted by A Game Network. A huge thank you to Matt and our new hosts for helping us make the move and for providing us with our new hosting solution. We're looking forward to bringing you bigger and better content in the near future, with one of the immediate improvements being that we can once again host our own files, so no more dealing with Filefront!

Everything should be working as normal but if you do come across anything that doesn't look right, please let me know ASAP. One thing to note however, for the meantime the Forum can be accessed through forums.nba-live.com; we will let you know the status of the nbaliveforums.com domain shortly.

Finally, I would like to thank James from the Sports Gaming Network for providing us with hosting for the past four years. While we are looking forward to bigger and better things with our new host, we certainly appreciate his help and support over the years.

Thanks to James indeed, the forum got a lot more "stable" once it was under the SGN hosting.

Was hosting own files the biggest reason for the move or was it something else too? If I may be as nosey to ask that is.

Edit: Oh yeah, thanks to the new folks for hosting the NLSC as well.

Okay, which one of you forgot to bring along the porn archives during the move?
I can't access it, damnit, now I'm mad.

One of the main reasons but not the only reason. Basically, we'd outgrown our old hosting and needed to upgrade and A Game Network put forth a very attractive solution for us so we decided it was time.

Andrew,
Why is there an image limit now to 600 pixels width? Is there any way to change that requirement to the old one? How do center stuff now, the align command doesn't work. Thanks.

The image limit is a setting in phpBB3, I can remove it. I forgot about the align command, I'll need to look for a phpBB3 mod for that (unfortunately phpBB2 mods aren't compatible with phpBB3 so I can't just use the old one).

No problem. As I said in the other post, I've added a centre alignment BBCode (forgot all about custom BBCodes when I made that last post) and I'll fix up the image restrictions.

Wow. Pretty big adjustment. It will take a while to get used to poster info on the right and new BBCode, but I think I will grow to like the changes.

Sorry about that, I meant to jump back on last night after the game finished and fix up a bunch of stuff but I was feeling pretty rundown so ended up getting an early night. It's fixed now. :)

People, for Christ's sake, just resize your pics to 600 pixels. It's not a big deal. As Andrew said, the restriction helps make the forum less "stuffed" and easier to browse.

EDIT: Nevermind, Andrew's fixed it...

Pdub found a mod similar to the resize fix we were using on phpBB2, which is a better solution since it'll just shrink images that are bigger than a set size while still allowing you to post them. I'll be installing that ASAP.

Oh yeah, let me resize all thos fucking pics I've used for my dyansty.C'mon man--this didn't even concern you. But you felt the need to reply. We were considerate and polite in our ask. You don't post any dynasties or anything so why would you even have a problem with us asking for this back? Besides to be an asshole.

BTW,Thanks Andrew.

Thanks for the color change in the quotes. Quotes in quotes still seem to have that green though.

I'd appreciate if you also bring back the tables! (Y)

Same deal with Lamrock. Will be a while to get used to it and not get the feeling of being in the dotorg forum.

I'll check out the nested quotes in the css. I'll probably need to find a mod for tables, unless I can whip something up using custom BBCodes.

Yes it concerns me. The fact that I don't post any dynasties doesn't mean I don't read them. In fact I do read them, and it annoys the hell out of me when a dynasty is filled with huge pictures and screenshots that stretch the forum's width, not to mention it takes decades to load, even on a high speed connection...

Don't resize all the pics you've already posted, just resize those you're about to post, it's not a big deal...

The argument is irrelevant now that the issue's been fixed. Call me an asshole, but I don't think it was too much to ask, resizing the pics you post to 600 pixels that is. And I think, as I've already stated, that it improves the overall smoothness of the forums.

Joe's an asshole.

 Thanks for spelling that out for me, I couldn't figure it out by myself...

On a side note, I have a question for you, Andrew. I noticed the YouTube tags are gone, but now we have [ flash] tags. Do they work with YouTube links? How do they work, exactly?

The YouTube tags will still work. You can also use the Video tag to post videos from YouTube and other websites.
