Mayo wants out
It has been reported on ESPN that rookie guard OJ Mayo, does not wish to play for the small market Memphis Grizzles, who traded for him after drafting Kevin Love with the 5th pick in the 2008 NBA draft.
GM Chris Wallace said "we think OJ is over reacting, considering he hasn't even played 1 game for our ball club. If he has this kind of attitude, then we will look to move him for some better pieces. We already have a good young core of Rudy (Gay), Mike (Conley) and Marc (Gasol), and if Mayo doesn't want to be a part of it, then thats his loss."
Mayo has since commented "Sure, I want to play in a large market, such as Los Angeles, Chicago, New York or even Dallas. The way the Grizzles handle their organisation is up to them, but I don't agree with my role on this team, and I feel the organisation doesn't value me as well as they should being a top 3 pick. I guess you could say me and the coaching staff didn't get off on the right foot. If they want to trade me, then so be it."
Since this altercation, Mayo and Wallace have discussed their futures, both now in a mutual stage with one an other, for now.

Knicks trade for Mayo in 6 player deal.
Today the New York Knicks have announced they are making a pre season trade with the Memphis Grizzles. The Knicks will send: Jamaal Crawford, Zach Randolph & Mardy Collins, for OJ Mayo, Antoine Walker, Darko Milicic and a ’09 2nd round draft pick.
“We got a quality player” said Donnie Walsh in a press conference today “OJ has the ability and potential to do what ever he wants on the court. He brings scoring, outside shooting and defensive presence at the 2 spot that this franchise has not had in quite some time. Although we gave up three good players, we got three guys who fit in to what we are trying to achieve as a team. I would like to thank Jamaal, Zach and Mardy for their contribution to this club, and we hope they have a good future at their new home.”
“We got a good deal here” said Grizzles GM, Chris Wallace “Zach will fit great next to our rising Center Gasol and we also think that Jamaal will be able to provide a scoring spark for our team whenever he is on the floor. Mardy is also a serviceable player, who can play minutes at both the guard spots.”
This is an interesting move for both teams, with New York trading away proven players for potential, and Memphis filling in holes they had before, while adding some depth.
When journalists asked Mayo for comments, he replied “great, New York has their franchise player”. Cocky comments for a rookie, lets see if he can live up to them.

Wolves beat Knicks 103-95

Behinds Randy Foye's marvellous game, the Minnesota Timberwolves have won their first game in the 2008/09 season against the New York Knicks.
The Knicks were ahead at the half, with a 1 point lead, but the Wolves, lead by Miller and Jefferson started the 3rd quarter with a 13-2 run. New York fought back in the 4th with the help of Wilson Chandler, to cut it to a 6 point game, but it wasn't enough. Newly acquired rookie OJ Mayo had a poor first half, but played very well in the 3rd quarter, despite his team not doing so, he finished with 19 points. New York's other rookie Gallinari exploded in the 2nd quarter, scoring 13 points in only 6 minutes.

OJ Mayo had a good debut for you - apart from shooting 6-15 but wasn't that bad!

Knicks get smashed in home opener.

The Celtics came into MSG looking for an easy win, but they didn't think it would be this easy. Ray Allen was on fire the first half, scoring 31 points, while the Knicks where ice cold shooting 30% before the break. Although New York found some quality shots, none of them where falling, and Boston's D was just to overpowering. None of the Celtics starters played in the second half, and the C's bench was able to outplay the Knicks starters, lead by Pruitt who finished with 21 points. The lead was stretched to 37 points at one stage, but the Knicks close it by the end of the game to 'only' 26.

Key Stats
15-22-25-31-93
32-35-28-24-119

Stars:
Ray Allen - 31 points, 11-17 FG, 5-7 3pt (20 minutes)
Gabe Pruitt - 21 points, 7 assists, 6-19 FG (20 minutes)
OJ Mayo - 24 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 8-26 FG (32 minutes)
Wilson Chandler - 14 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 6-13 FG (29 minutes)

Busts:

The rest of the New York Knicks - 36-92 FG, shooting 39%, 4-20 3pt, and the worst defense seen this season.

Knicks complete another early season trade
The Knicks have announced a trade with the Golden State Warriors.
In the deal New York will acquire Al Harrington, Kelenna Azubuike and DeMarcus Nelson, while the Warriors will receive Eddy Curry, Nate Robinson and Jared Jefferies.
For the Knicks, Harrington will play great in Mike D'Antoni's system, being able to spread the floor and hit 3's. Azubuike is a great all around player and capable scorer, while Nelson is still a work in progress.
The Warriors have been looking to trade Harrington for some time now, and with him gone, Brandan Wright will get a large increase in minutes. Robinson lets the team go small, and play Ellis at the 2 spot for stretches. The other two players will see limited minutes but have potential to be solid players as the season progresses. Jefferies is fast for his size, and can shoot jumpers and will be a good backup, while Eddy Curry is hoping to turn his career around in some fresh scenery. Curry will play big minutes against the larger West teams.

I'm actually surprised the Warriors agreed to this deal, but I'm guessing they like Curry's potential (A-) . Incase you want ratings, they are:

Robinson - (79)
Curry - (72)
Jefferies (74)

Harrington (77)
Azubuike (78)
Nelson (68)

I'm hoping Azubuike and Harrington can provide the scoring I've been desperately looking for. If I can't secure a good PG in next seasons draft, or Marbury gets waived before then, I might try starting Mayo & Kelenna in the backcourt together.

Knicks beat Clippers led by Mayo.
OJ Mayo put on a great performance by NBA history standards, let alone rookie standards. Looking at his stat line, and you think it would have to be a mistake, but it is not. He scored 45 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, while producing 15 dimes, not to mention 2 steals. The Clippers where in control the first half, but lead by their "big 4" the Knicks closed in, and took the lead, scoring an amazing, 82 point second half.
This will go as one of the great games in NBA history!

Key Stats
26-21-41-41-129
35-25-31-32-123

Stars:
OJ Mayo - 45 points, 8 rebounds, 15 assists, 2 steals, 17-32 FG
Al Harrington - 24 points, 6 rebounds, 12-17 FG
Wilson Chandler - 23 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 11-16 FG
Kelenna Azubuike - 17 points, 7-13 FG (13 minutes)
Baron Davis - 27 points, 4 rebounds, 12 assists, 10-28 FG
Chris Kaman - 22 points, 13 rebounds, 11-13 FG
Marcus Camby - 18 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 6 blocks, 9-12 FG

Busts:
Everyone compared to Mayo's performance.

Mayo almost had a triple double (can we say Rookie of the Year), what's Kelenna Azubuike's potential. I've always like him.

Mayo misses game winner against Pacers, lose by 1.
The Pacers have squeaked by the Knicks in a thrilling game. Brandon Rush and TJ Ford led the way, while Murphy did a lot of work inside.
The Knicks led at the half, but poor defense in the 3rd quarter let Indiana take over, and position themselves for the win. With 5 seconds left, Mayo took a drive into the lane, but missed the shot with 3 Pacers contesting the shot.

Key Stats
25-31-26-33-115
22-33-36-25-116

Stars:
Brandon Rush - 26 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists, 11-17 FG
Troy Murphy - 21 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 10-16 FG
TJ Ford - 19 points, 1 rebounds, 13 assists, 3 steals, 8-10 FG
Kelenna Azubuike - 23 points, 9-16 FG
OJ Mayo - 21 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists, 8-18 FG

Spurs big 3 blow by troubled Knicks
The Spurs hosted the Knicks, and did not disappoint their fans, winning by 22 points. The Knicks opened the game very well, leading by 10 at the end of the first quarter, but blew that lead in the 2nd, playing some of their worst defense. The Spurs scored an amazing 46 points in the 3rd quarter, and the Knicks could never compete after that. Parker, Manu & Duncan all looked like MVP candidates out there, while Mayo continues to impress, scoring 23 against the Spurs tough D.

Key Stats
32-28-27-21-108
22-38-46-24-130

Stars:
Tony Parker - 30 points, 11 assists, 10-15 FG, 10-11 FT
Manu Ginobili - 26 points, 8 assists, 8-15 FG, 9-10 FT
Tim Duncan - 20 points, 16 rebounds, 8-13 FG
OJ Mayo - 23 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, 10-22 FG
Kelenna Azubuike - 19 points, 5 rebounds, 8-15 FG

Busts:
Al Harrington - 3-8 FG, 5 Fouls, and terrible defense against Duncan

T-Mac leads Rockets over Knicks
The Rockets came out firing, scoring 34 points in the first, to New York's mere 14. With a big first half from Yao, and a complete game from T-Mac, the Rockets easily beat the Knicks. Yao was a ford inside, scoring 15 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and blocking 6 shots.
Mayo had another solid game, he is clearly front runner for ROTY so far.

Key Stats
14-24-29-19-86
34-33-25-21-113

Stars:
Tracy McGrady - 29 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists, 13-22 FG
Yao Ming - 15 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, 6 blocks, 7-11 FG
OJ Mayo - 22 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, 10-22 FG

Wilson Chandler - 1-9 FG (23 minutes)

Knicks choke in 2nd half, slip to Mavs
Dirk had 41 & 19, Kidd chipped in 24 & 20, and the Mavs cruised to a second half blow-out of the Knicks, winning by 14. Like many times this season, the Knicks had a very good first half, but played terrible in the second half. Mayo hit his first 10 shots of the game, including 3 first half 3pointers, he finished with 36. Harrington played great in the fourth, hitting 4-4 from down town in that quarter.

Key Stats
28-23-24-26-101
17-29-35-35-115

Stars:
Dirk Nowitzki - 41 points, 19 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks, 19-27 FG
Jason Kidd - 24 points, 3 rebounds, 10 assists, 4 steals, 8-16 FG
OJ Mayo - 36 points, 6 rebounds, 9 assists, 14-21 FG, 4-5 3PT
Al Harrington - 22 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, 9-18 FG, 4-6 3PT
