Feedback need for nba live 2k4.

Postby EddyMVP on Sat Nov 22, 2003 7:12 pm

I just receieved any email from Ea sports stating, I'm wonder if you guys can give me a help since I help you.

I'm trying to sum up the key positive and negative elements of this
year's game, and I wanted to see if I could find any consensus among
you, the community leaders. If you have the time, I would love to get a
list of what you think the top 5 best and the top 5 worst elements about
NBA Live 2004 are.

I don't need much detail, although I'd be happy to have it if you're
inclined to jot it down for me. Also, if you could specify if the issue
is for the PC or PS2 version of the game as you jot them down, that
would be helpful.

Top 5:
Game is slower, making it somewhat more realistic
the offbalence J
The My NBA menu, where you can get unlockables
Jumpstop
The seperation of the shoot and dunk buttons

Not top 5:
1)That stupid free agency bug
2)During the off-season, teams like to let their franchise players go
3)The player development-Its not realistic. I simmed through 3 years with the cavs, and checked the lakers roster. Kobe was down to an 82 and Shaq an 80. Players sometimes randomly drop in ratings.
4)Drop in stats for star players-After 2 years of simmed franchise, TMac was averaging 16 ppg.
5) Generated rookies. I had one who was an 84 in fg, and 80 in 3 pt, with a 12 ft rg.

PC of course

Good things:
1. Improved overall gameplay
2. Jump Stop
3. Shoot and Dunk are seperate
4. NBA Store + generic shoes that might as well be And 1's
5. Marv and the Czar

Bad things:
1. The freakin' jump pass that happens so often, and the protect the ball aotomatic animation is way overdone
2. Create-a-player, sure there are more faces, but they're more similar giving less variety
3. The jump stop being this years freestyle (unstoppable)
4. The FA bug
5. Training camps not really improving your players much, and making most worse.

Forgot to add
Bad:
Along with your player jumping to pass all of the time, your players also turn around to catch passes all the time. They dont catch them in stride often.

Also forgot to add, how the cpu automatically adjusts your shot for you most of the time. Disabling the ability to go up with the ball strong.

5 Pros

1. The rating system.
2. The commitment to defense
3. Gameplay Overall
4. The Online Play (IP to IP)
5. Graphix

5 Cons

1. The inability to face up when dribble (forced to protect the ball).
2. Using the point system for salaries in the Dyansty.
3. Player faces have been better in the past.
4. Animation after leaning shots taking away the abilty to good after a offenisve rebound.

Compared to the past there aren't alot of Cons on this game.

Pros

1. Rating system
2. Seperate dunk and shoot
3. Defense
4. Ratings
5. Nba Store and extras

Cons

1. Defense yea its a pro and a con...too much double teaming, always force players to adjust shots, guys like shaq cant score against double team or take it strong for the dunk and 1

2. The ball protection - protecting the ball doesnt mean turning your back to the defense which is what happens in the game...the player should be sideways not backwards and not always protect and jump stop is too effective

3. Passing is really bad and interior passing is even worse and offensive rebounds are really bad, players can't miss a shot/layup and go right back up for a tip and they dont fight for position on offensive glass even when crash boards is on they just go and try to dunk it....

4. AI play...it think its horrible if you dont let them penetrate or score in the post they jut launch 3's like crazy...to much pg scoring on some teams like indiana...kenny anderson was never a scorer, they also don't know how to break the presses, if u can do the press correctly they'll turn it over or if u jut pressure the inbounds they dont move

5. Dynasty - free agent bug, training camp, stat decline, crappy rookies and rookie/player development they should add a potential rating, rookie draft, we need team depth charts where u can edit things from rotations to who gets the ball and team style of play(passive d and agressive offense (dallas), aggressive d run offense through carter (toronto) etc)

Pro:
1) Two shot buttons
2) Sliders
3) overall gameplay is much better and more realistic
4) Freethrows finally work properly online
5) Pro Hop

Cons:
1) Online play is stripped-down version of offline play - too few sliders, settings don't stick (camera, profile, IP), no ingame settings (pressure, plays), no auto-subs online :x
2) Still no way to adjust passes - it would be better to allow the user to decide if he wants to play a straight or lob/bounce pass (maybe press+hold=normal pass, tap=lob pass)
3) Dynasty bugs - trade rules do not apply sometimes, superstars remain unsigned sometimes
4) CPU rarely takes midrange jumpers unless you adjust his style of play every game
5) Too much focus on "useless" stuff like the codes, or shoes you can unlock etc. instead of testing and fixing the above

Still, it's the best Live to date.

Pros

1. Amazing overall gameplay improvements. EA has finally provided a realistic and exciting basketball sim. Thumbs up!
2. 10-man mo-cap is just brilliant, makes you feel like you're in a real game with all the players being active waving their hands for the rock, battling in the post, and the list goes on and on.
3. Love the contact play.

Cons

1. Dynasty Mode still isn't any better than Franchise mode from 2000. What happened to player progress? Bring back create custom team feature. Also things like hiring and firing coaches, scouts
2.Training camp makes your players worse, otherwise it's a good idea that can be fixed if you have the PC version. However why not also include weight rooms where you can take players like Chris Bosh and put a little muscle on him during the off season.
3. Less options in creating a players looks and no headshapes creates a lack of creativity. Especially noticeable during drafts. Bringing back headshapes, doubling if not tripling the amount of hairstyles should fix that.
4. Player graphics compared to ESPN they are too cartoonish and flat out just don't look as good.
5 Introduce potential rating, I hate how players are developed randomly. You could have Carl English one day leading the league in scoring while LEbron is no where to be found. There should be a potential rating that says this player will develop no questions asked.
6. Bring female bodies and faces into the game. I know it's a man's game, but there are female gamers out there that would love to create themselves and then go dunking over Shaq.
7. Give more nicknames for created players, like 10 times more. (Ahem I recommend Driveshaft be one of them ) Why not even allow gamers to use just the first names, I'm sure almost everybody has a first name in common with one of the players in the game.
8. Also same thing with generated rookies... if you have a list of generated names why not make Marv and the Czar be able to say the name.

Closing comments: The gameplay is awesome, I don't mean to give so many negatives, it's only constructive criticism there has to be improvements otherwise EA wouldn't need to make a 2005, 2006, just roster patches. I believe EA needs to provide the gamers with a product that allows us to unleash our creativity. For example, wacky hairstyles (dreads, mohawk, long hair tied back in a ponytail different Rodmanesk hair colours... in fact allow us to change the hair colour). Bring in Create a Team feature and then implement it into Dynasty as an expansion team so we have to pick the players from around the league.

Overall I think the game is beautiful, all it needs is a little polishing.
Sorry for being long winded

ctually the player development isn't random there's a career package in the dbf's somewhere. Rated from around e to a, a being the best.
I think they should have something like an NHL game I played at my friends house where they have a bunch of names in create-a-player you can choose to be called by. Or call them by their last name, or by a similar last name. Eg. in Madden I'm called by a name that's my last name + er.

Top pros:
1. Sliders (Great for changing the game to suit you! Awesome, EA.)
2. Gameplay (Really, much better than last year.)
3. Atmosphere (Sound)
4. Rating system (More of a gap between stars and non-stars.)
5. New controls (two seperate shooting buttons, jumpstop)
6. Trading for draft picks

Top 5 cons:
1. Dynasty FA bug
2. Dynasty training camp decreasing ratings
3. Lack of Dynasty features
4. Mostly unrealistic faces
5. RELEASING IT AFTER NBA SEASON TIP OFF. :P

Top 5

1. Blocks out of bounds is no longer a turnover
2. Overall gameplay is more realistic due to Sliders
3. Ability to trade Draft Picks
4. Soundtrack and Overall game atmosphere due to great sound
5. Ability to Tip-Dunk and the Tear Drop shot

Worst 5

1. Free Agency Bug in Dynasty
2. Court is kinda small
3. Player lock is unusable due to the fact that the cpu teammates just stand around and don't play
4. Inability to Offensive rebound because of after the shot animations for close in shots
5. CPU is able to fast break way too often and have no midrange game, only layups and 3 pointers

Now that I've played more, my own top & bottom five:

Pros:
1. Hop-step button
2. Layup button
3. Marv and The Czar
4. Defense is so much better this year
5. Sliders!!!

Cons:
1. Lame bugs (see the bug thread)
2. Player and team ratings (as usual, I'm never happy with them)
3. Default slider settings aren't as good as they could be
4. CPU gets too many transition oppurtunities off of missed layups
5. CPU either jacks up threes or hits layups surrounded by opponents (hehe)
