-Atlanta Hawks Dynasty-

Sun Oct 26, 2008 12:18 pm

I got bored with my first major dynasty (Seattle Supersonics), so I decided to create a dynasty with the Atlanta Hawks without the fantasy draft. After a few trades I made (all in which I'll specify in a later post), here's what my team looks like:

C: Kenyon Martin
PF: Josh Smith
SF: Kenny Young (myself)
SG: Josh Childress
PG: Gary Payton

BENCH
--------
Nene
Horford
Law IV
Pachulia
Lorenzen Wright
Sheldon Williams
---------

There's a couple of players playing out of position, but with the rotation I have planned, I don't think it'll be a major issue. I kind of have a few too many centres, so I might need to make a couple more trades yet.

My player's physical characteristics are true to life (hair, height and weight)... a few of his stats are a bit exaggerated (namely his dunking ability), but apart from that, I think his overall is pretty fair... he has his flaws.

The quarters are 5 minutes, default sliders used on superstar mode and the playoff system is 3 games a series.

Here are my trades so far:

Joe Johnson for Kenyon Martin

Marvin Williams and Tyronn Lue for Nene

Speedy Claxton for Charlotte Bobcats 2nd Round Pick

Signed Gary Payton

and after my first three games (all of which recapped when I get home from work)

Sheldon Williams and Zaza Pachulia for Adam Morrison

To some it might seem like I made a few dud trades, but I believe the players I got from them suit my style of play. I was always going to trade away Joe Johnson for a forward so I could start Josh Childress.

Interesting lineup. I imagine it's pretty well suited to an uptempo style.

That's my style... I tend to get a lot of turnovers, but it's the only way I really know how to play. What I like about my lineup is the versatility. You have a few players in there who can play more than one key position. Makes for interesting rotations.

Absolutely, if you can make an unorthadox lineup work for you then so be it. Does your style change much when you go to the bench given the players you have?

Here are my first 3 games... I think I might have to change the sliders around, because I don't want to be winning by 10+ all the time :?

Game 1 Vs Dallas

Score:
DAL 50
Points:
J Stackhouse 11
M Ager 10
D Harris 10

Rebounds:
Nowitzki 5

Assists:
4 Players 1

ATL 92
Points:
K Young 23
Nene 18
K Martin 15

Rebounds:
K Martin 11

Assists:
A Law IV 5

MVP: K Martin

Summary: With Josh Howard out injured with a sprained thumb, it was always going to be difficult for the Mavericks, but early in the first quarter, signs looked good for them, as they started the game with a 10-0 run. Maurice Ager looked to be an adequate replacement for Josh Howard, getting his share in the run and causing foul trouble for the Hawks.

The first basket the Hawks scored was a 3 pointer from the oldest man in the team, Gary Payton. After that, an avalanche of points by the home team Atlanta gave them a respectable lead at half time. Rookie Kenny Young and new recruit Kenyon Martin led the way, ending the match with 23 (which happens to be his jersey number) and 15 respectively.

Nene exploded in the 3rd quarter, scoring 14 of his 18 points, ensuring an emphatic win to Atlanta. Other noteworthy contributers to the Hawks were Josh Childress (14) and Josh Smith (11). But the night belonged to Kenyon Martin, who registered his first double-double for his new side.

Game 2 Vs Detroit

Score:
ATL 78
Points:
J Childress 17
Nene 15
K Martin 14

Rebounds:
K Martin 7
Nene

Assists:
G Payton 6

DET 58
Points:
R Hamilton 24
C Billups 11
A McDyess 6

Rebounds:
R Wallace 7

Assists:
R Hamilton 2

MVP: Nene

Summary: The first half was a struggle, as the score was tied at 17 all. Kenny Young picked up 3 fouls in the first quarter, leading to a lengthy breather on the bench, whilst Chauncy Billups had problems of his own, with 2. Childress and Hamilton helped steady the ship for their respective teams, while Rasheed Wallace and Kenyon Martin provided solid defensive foundations in the paint. But once again, the difference in the second half proved to be the Brazillian Nene. He provided 15 second half points, along with Josh Childress' 17 and Kenyon Martin's 14.

Rip Hamilton did everything he could, being the leading scorer of the match with 24 points, but without their regular point guard calling the shots for most of the game, the Pistons weren't able to force much of a resistance.

Game 3 Vs New Jersey

Score:
ATL 83
Points:
K Young 26
J Smith 11
Nene 11

Rebounds:
J Smith 6

Assists:
J Smith 5

NJ 67
Points:
V Carter 22
J Kidd 20
Marcus Williams 12

Rebounds:
J Magloire 6

Assists:
J Kidd 3

MVP: K Young

Summary: The New Jersey Nets came out firing in the first half. Jason Kidd was drawing fouls and Vince Carter was providing those eye popping highlight reel plays that he is renowned for. Going to the half time break up by 5 and leading by as much as 10 in the 3rd quarter, Atlanta faced the possibility of crashing back down to Earth after two emphatic wins.

However, after a poor game against Detroit, Kenny Young provided the spark, scoring 13 points in the 3rd quarter and with help from a list of double figure scorers (Josh Smith 11, Nene 11, Kenyon Martin 10, Josh Childress 10), Atlanta was able to run over New Jersey in the final quarter.

Nice wins though I know what you mean about winning in blowouts. Every now and then it's satisfying but if you're not being challenged it does get boring, especially when you're playing through a season.
