NBA Live 09 for PSP - Impressions

Postby Valor on Mon Oct 06, 2008 7:58 am

I got the psp copy early from a contact in a local video game store.

The game isnt much more impressive then last year's version.....
rosters are not correct, alot of trades, fas not done. many overrated players (Sean Williams and Alondo Tucker in high 80s...) and some very underrated...
some missing players, such as Heat's rookie Mario Chambers, Japan National Team's Yuta Tabuse (best player in japan not in the national team?) wrong player's positions...like beasley at sf, Steve Francis listed at sg but default rotation set him as sf, iverson as sg while rotation he was set as sf, anthony at pf...

only good thing is that the profile and roster files are separate this year, so hopefully some pro dude can patch the game, or EA would give us psp users some updates...

cyberfaces sucks also, pau gasol looks asian and has short hair like yao...

Thanks for the impressions. Sounds quite disappointing, though I don't think the PSP version will ever be the most impressive.

On the site you see new crossover controls... What actually changed?
And is there a pro mode? And the dynasty mode can you still play 29 games season?
Thanks and sorry for so many questions

Well, the PSP version is subject to the roster cutoff date the same as every other version, though it's strange that Rose isn't in the game as I'm sure he signed with the Bulls by the date.

Sportsgamer: the "new" crossover controls basically means same moves, different buttons, now u hold down the Lbutton and hit either x, o, square, triangle for the same old crossovers, spin moves... and no there isnt a pro mode, they just added a FIBA mode, and yes, you can change the schedule type to random and choose between 29 games, 58 games, and 82 games instead of the fixed NBA Schedule with 82, and its ok :D

Andrew: yeah i have no idea why Rose isnt in it....

Note: i got NBA 09 by SCE, and what i gotta say is, even if gameplay isnt all that special, teh graphics and rosters are certainly better then EA's Live 09

OMG I cant believe it... This is so crap.. EA didn't even put any efforts at all on PSP version!! the graphics are still the same.. the rosters are not right even on the "july 15 cut off date" .. the schedule on dynasty mode is the schedule last year.. and the worst part is it has the same ratings last year!!! andrew bynum on the lakers is only 61 and hes one of the best centers on the league.. I can't believe its $39 and its not even worth it..

Andrew please i beg you make a request on the EA people to make a patch on the rosters update.. I didn't save $39 for this crap!!! :-(

Peeps, derrick rose IS IN THE GAME :)

he is in the free agent pool. starting from the first player i think he's about 6-7 clicks down.

sucks because FAs should be alphabetically arranged at least (or by position)

here's my previous post about the PSP version. i hope it will be helpful :)
just scroll all the way down (the longest post in the page  )

EDIT: here's a screenshot that Derrick Rose is in the game (i've already placed him in the bulls roster)

Which is strange because he was signed by the cutoff date and given his status as the first overall pick, you'd think he'd be on the Bulls roster over Demetris Nichols. In any case, good that he's in the game for the platforms that aren't getting the 365 updates.

true... i still can't believe that bynum is a 61, yet alando tucker is an 86

BTW for those experiencing laggy gameplay in the PSP version, i tried playing Live 09 again. the lag seems to have disappeared (so it seems it's an arena issue???). :?:

darn EA... so focused on next-gen games yet they can't even perfect the current gen ones :?
