Jamaal Tinsley a Nugget

Postby Fizdale on Fri Oct 03, 2008 10:39 pm

Locked-out Pacers point Jamaal Tinsley was traded to the Nuggets for Chuckie Atkins and Stephen Hunter, The Post has learned.

The deal is contingent on Tinsley passing a physical. Chronically injured over the last four years (only once playing more than 42 games) and embroiled in violent encounters on three separate occasions (none of which he instigated), he spent all summer in Atlanta rehabbing his body and is said to be a great condition.

Denver assumes his $21M, 3-year debt. Atkins is due $3.24M and $3.48M while Hunter is guaranteed $3.86M and $3.69M. Less than half of their total salary remaining is guaranteed.

Denver finally has a decent PG!
But they don't have Marcus Camby anymore. Whoop.

Tinsley To Denver Deal Just A Rumor?

The New York Post has reported that the Pacers have traded Jamaal Tinsley to the Nuggets for Chucky Atkins and Steven Hunter, but Mike Wells of the Indianapolis Star says the report isn't true.

Wells spoke with representatives from both teams on Friday morning, who confirmed that no deal has been agreed upon.

Indiana has been in talks with Denver about Tinsley, but they have spoken to a majority of teams as they look to unload Tinsley.

It wouldn't be a bad deal for either team. The Pacers are obviously not interested in keeping Tinsley around and Atkins would still leave them with a veteran backup at point guard. Hunter wasn't seeing much time in Denver and if Tinlsey can stay healthy maybe the fresh start will work out in his favour. Since it's been denied the immediate thought is that something is actually in the works but then the Milicic for Randolph swap between the Grizzlies and Knicks turned out to be weeks old discussion that ultimately went nowhere.

getting tinsley would be a baaaaaad move. tinsley cost way too much for what denver actually need from getting rid of camby. i dont get why they would go ahead and sign jr.smith and yet sign another gaurd that puts a heavy toll on ur salary cap. this leaves iverson, j.r, and tinsley rotating in gaurd positions; most likely seeing j.r coming off the bench again this year unless he breaks out.

a lot of nonsense going on in denver that's diminishing their chances in advancing to the the playoffs next season against the tough western conference. was tinsley really THE guy they needed.

No, they needed another big guy, like half the rest of the league. They're too hard to come by. See: Chicago.

And i thought Tinsley had been waived by Indiana last month or something? I seriously thought i saw it on NBA.com, but now after double checking, i've come to the conclusion that i was either dreaming or high.

Chicago has had their share of quality big bigs. They just let them go before they begin to play well.

What about Anthony Carter? I know he is not more than mediocre but he is still on their roster, isnt he? With their current roster I dont think the Nuggets are a Playoff contender. Nene is too injury prone. Kleiza still needs to develope. Martin does not offer anything since he got only little of his athleticism left in his tanks and has never been a great baller. Melo and AI cannot handle it on their own.

Iverson has taken lesser teams to the playoffs before, albeit in the East when he was much younger.

But... Iverson is still a great player, and Carmelo has the ability to be a top 3 player in the league. Everyone points to Camby being traded and the Nuggets having no chance. This is probably true as Camby is a brilliant rebounder and defender. But that could be exactly why he was traded. When Camby was on the court, is it possible the rest of the Nuggets half arsed it on defense knowing they had a beast protecting the rim and cleaning the glass? If this is the case, maybe the Nuggets will now start to play better defense. If they do, they could easily be a top 4 team in the West.

That's far too true for my liking. Brand, Chandler, now LaMarcus Aldridge. Although strictly speaking, Brand was already playing well before he got traded. Which makes it harder to swallow in a way.

This would be good for Denver if Tinsley will be healthy for the duration of the season, I think he can really help at the PG position.. That is if this deal really pushes through...

as if offense was ever a problem in denver? everyone knows they could play offense... defense is what made them such a shitty team in the playoffs. they just got rid of the DPOY which makes them even shittier on defense and tinsley is supposed to help the team get better???

nuggets in playoffs? i don't think so unless melo steps up big time. AI is getting old now, and i dunno if his maturity outpays declining athletism for the team. imo, tinsley is another declining player. this move basically gets them nowhere. they should have got something better in return for camby.

Yeah but Brand took his game to mvp level when the Clippers made the second round.

Iverson is declining? 26 ppg, 7 apg and 2 spg is still very productive.

I don't think they view him as being the last piece of the puzzle, but rather he's just someone they're interested in (or were interested in, if the deal is actually nothing more than a rumour) seeing as he's been made available. It is odd that they'd make a move like trading Camby as a means of cutting costs only to bring in someone with a similar contract whose deal runs a year longer and makes trading Camby seem even more of a waste.

Is this trade official? Anyway, Tinsley has got to go now that Ford and Jack are on the Pacers roster and Diener as the 3rd string PG...

No, it's not official yet but despite the denials there are still reports that it could be done as soon as Monday.

Count me in as one of the non-believers in the past. Even though I'm an AI fan, I was then expecting the decline in his play because of the way he plays, which still hasn't happened yet.
It just proves that AI is one of the great players of his generation.

Agreed, Iverson would probably still be putting up around 30 ppg if he wasn't playing alongside another prolific scorer.

Nuggets Don't Like Tinsley's Contract
The Nuggets were very interested in trading for Pacers point guard Jamaal Tinsley, but one NBA executive says that his hefty contract kept the deal from happening on Friday.

Tinsley has three years and $21.45 million left on his contract.

Doesn't sound like the deal is happening...having thrown that out there, I guess we can expect it to happen now, just to spite me.
