Dynasty Six operates differently than the NBA. Without the need to protect the financial interests of wealthy team owners we have restructured the league to make it as competitive as possible.
Every Game Matters - Season StructureKeeping it Fair - Player Movement Structure
- In D6 we treat the regular season as a race to the championship where every game matters. There's no reward for losing, infact if you finish at the bottom of Division 1 you get punished by being relegated to Division 2 (eliminating tanking). Every game is competitive until the season's end, with teams trying to win the championship at the top and teams trying not to get relegated at the bottom.
- Teams in Division 2 fight for promotion to Division 1. The top two teams at the end of the season are automatically promoted and the third, fourth, fifth and sixth place teams playoff for the third promotion spot.
- Teams in Division 1 and Division 2 never play against each other. They compete only against teams in their own divisions. Each season is 50 games in length, due to there being 18 teams in each Division, which is perfect timing for the start of Dynasty Five's regular season!
- Alongside the regular season we have the 'Dynasty Six Cup' competition which operates like the playoffs but includes all 36 teams in Division 1 and Division 2 selectively placed (according to each teams win/loss record) in groups which compete in between regular season games all season long.
- Just like in the real NBA, teams can rebuild through the rookie draft. The highest picks go to the teams that finish bottom of Division 2.
- Tanking will not necessarily help a Division 2 team however, because Free Agency is structured to benefit higher placed teams. If you're the GM of a Division 2 team and trying to re-sign one of your players, other teams may make bids on your expiring players contract and lure them away to their better team and for less pay!
However, it's not that simple for a better team either. A salary cap of $65,000,000 exists. Exceeding the salary cap means Free Agents cannot be signed for anything other than the league minimum $500,000.- A combination of talent spotting, shrewd trading and cap management will be required to build your dynasty.
