Mixed Martial Arts

Just thought I'd start I've been getting into the sport for about a year now. As a spectator of course. Don't have the determination and probably the pain tolerance for that. The only mention of any events are usually in the WWE thread so I thought it deserved it's own thread.

To get the ball rolling and since I've mentioned WWE already, Brock Lesnar was impressive on his last fight and has really done a lot of polishing since his last fight. Discuss.

the best MMA show wasn't a UFC show or the horrible Elite XC CBS shows but one called WEC. this dude Urijah Faber is really fun to watch.

WEC's shows are always great for some reason. Not that fight quality is in any way predictable but their matchups just make for great fights. Brock was very impressive, as was Kenny Florian. I'm still shocked at how much damage Jon Fitch withstood.

If you ever get a chance to see some DREAM from Japan, that's pretty great as well - plenty of it on Youtube.

I've never ordered a PPV but ESPN Australia was showing some MMA recently so I've caught a bit of it here and there.

Yeah, I've been watching all that too. A dream match would be Faber vs Miguel Torres. Those two are kickass. Florian was great though I got bored with the fight. Nothing about the fight really stood out for me. I expected Huerta to lose the whole time.

DREAM from what I've read have been having problems lately with regards to their TV deal and finances. It was kinda questionable to have a alternate win a title tournament though.

You got bored with the Florian fight? I was enjoyed that fight the most just because Hureta (or however you spell his name) has a history of quick knockouts, so out of the 3 main events that was most likely to quickly change. Brock and GSP were dominant, but I never got the feeling either Herring or Fitch would be able to win after the first round for both fights.

Yeah. I was. I never believed Huerta was on Florian's level yet. And I knew Florian would have good control over the fight like he did. I found GSP to be a boring fight as well. Like the Florian-Huerta fight, Fitch isn't in GSP's level. Brock was rather interesting only because of the hype and my curiousity if Brock could hold his own in the UFC.Though Mark Coleman would've a more interesting fight since it would be a test for both since Coleman has been out of the loop for a while and he pretty much has the same background as Brock.

Kimbo Slice vs Ken Shamrock in the works

now this is going to suck but will be rather interesting to watch out of sheer novelty.

But what were they meant to do with Huerta? He was on a 7 win streak, they couldn't put him up against a chump. Also he didn't do too bad, Florian has never gone the distance before and he was forced to with Huerta. Florian should get a shot against Penn. I can't believe they're already moving Penn upto fight GSP. Penn has had one title defense and he's already moving up? Crazy.

I didn't say that uHuerta shouldn't have fought Kenflo. I just said that He wasn't on Florian's level yet in terms of skill and I had little doubt that Huerta would win. Still an imprressive performance though.

Penn-GSP is more of a money fight anyway. Still would be interesting even just so GSP can bash BJ's head in. LOL

Florian's gonna have to settle for Joe Stevenson for the meantime I guess. Do you watch MMA Live ? Kenny's in there as a host. Sometimes, Mr is in there as well.

MMA live? I wacth 95% of the pay per views and some TUF and fight nights. I've seen Kenny Florian do commentary before, as well as Coture, he's not bad. They should make Rogan the play by play guy and have an ex fighter do the colour commentary. Mike Goldberg is a joke, he's just a version of Cyanide, saying the painfully obvious.

MMA LIve is an ESPN internet show. I didn't mean an MMA Event being watched live. It's like sports center for MMA. I catch it sometimes. But i rarely go online outside work. Yeah, Goldberg is a joke. I didn't why WWE was running after him when they fired JR before.

Oh no I don't watch it. I don't really like rumours and spoilers. WWE went after Goldberg? Wow! I think he would of been perfect for them.. He's the typical mickey mouse, good guy vs bad guy announcer professional wrestling uses for their angles.Whats the next ppv? Chuck vs Rashard? Evans is one of my favourite fighters but I don't think he has a chance against Chuck... but then again, he's undefetaed still. If he wins this fight it's hard to not give him a title shot.

Mockery aside, that's his job...they're not trying to appeal to hardcore lifelong MMA fans, but to the uninitiated fans. Of course they're going to have someone making basic MMA observations, naming positions and techniques, etc.

Goldberg said that he wasn't interested in pro wrestling though. Don't why he's in MMA when he can't even call the moves right either. I remember the last fight night when he said that Anderson Silva's precision is so ...precise.

Anderson Silva's precision is so ...precise.

It's exaggeration through redundancy, he's simply highlighting Silva's excellent precision.
Or Mike Goldberg is just an idiot.

Feel free to pick one.

Randy vs Brock

Not really fond of Brock getting a shot this early but at least it's gonna be interesting plus the whole court debacle is settled.

So they're going to have two heavywieght champions? Wow smart idea. Maybe they can split the brands too, like the wwe.

And is there anyway they can not give Evans a title shot now?

r.i.p. to evan tanner

noguiera was only interim champion
interim champion becomes champ if the current champ doesn't return
since randy still had some contract stuff with ufc, he was still champ
but now they got it all settled and interim champ is supposed to fight the current
but they made some other matches so it'll be winner vs winner prolly
for the undisputed championship
