Grizzlies Sign RFA Josh Smith To Offer Sheet

Postby Iceman_44 on Sat Aug 09, 2008 3:13 am

RealGm.com is reporting:
The Memphis Grizzlies have signed restricted Atlanta free agent Josh Smith to a $58 million offer sheet, the Memphis Commercial-Appeal is reporting.

The Hawks now have seven days to match or let Smith walk, but have said in the past they'll match any offer the high flyer may get from rival teams.

Should the Griz land Smith he is expected to play power forward alongside Rudy Gay at small forward, O.J. Mayo at shooting guard and Mike Conley at point guard.

No word yet on how many years are included in the contract.

$58 million for 5 years is a pretty good value. I can't see the Hawks not matching.

Hawks will match, no doubt. Josh Smith in Memphis would be interesting though.

The Hawks can't let him go. They already lost the other Josh... The Grizzlies will be a touch young team with Gay, Smith, Mayo leading the show..

Well I'm sure the Grizz have something in place to offer this to Smith knowing that the Hawks would probably match. The reason being is because if Smith would've just accepted the QO and become unrestricted next year, it'll be alot easier to get him. So, I'm thinking they have a sign and trade in place with Darko, Crittenton and the Lakers 10' Pick for Smith.

That's what I've been hearing mostly. Josh Smith doesn't want to be there, so I would think he would raise hell if the team matched it and he had to stay put. If Chris Wallace can pull this off, he can be a candidate for GM of the year.

And people thought the Gasol trade was bad. If we sign Smith straight up, we basically got Crittenton, 2010 1st round pick, Arthur, Josh Smith (from the cap space) for Gasol.

Getting Smith will only make the process shorter of becoming contenders. We would be on the same track as Portland and probably win close to 40 games next season if we sign or trade for him.

They should've offered the money to the other Josh.

As if they would ever NOT match it.

Memphis is stupid. If Smith didn't want to play in Atlanta, he is stupid too.

Cheap contract though, I would have paid more than that.

Even if the Grizzlies had been able to sign Josh Smith, the Gasol trade would have been a bad deal. They would have ultimately gotten something good out of it but in the context of the deal itself the Grizzlies were on the losing end.

They can try to get someone else for that money as well, so no worries. Grizzlies will come up with something, I'm pretty sure.

See? That's the way it is. He's thinking it. So it must be. I mean,  they must have a plan! DUH!!

No, no, you just don't understand...it's sealed. They have a plan you see. They got capspace so they will probably do a sign and trade somehow and get him anyways.

Can't you see?

It's so obvious Memphis is a genius for trading away Gasol, they totally came out the winners, I mean they offered Josh Smith a contract...THAT WAS MATCHED?!?!? OMG!!?!?! WTF?!!!BBQ!!! Can't you see how genius that is? Silly Kobe jocker, sheesh.

Nevermind, this is probably a decoy move to somehow get Lebron James. They just threw this offer out there to divert attention while the Grizzlies were fine dining Lebron for '10.

Yeah, it's so obvious, the money they saved by trading away a good powerforward who was cockrided all the while he was there, but when traded away he sucked major monkey nuts and his brother is suddenly the second coming of God which means they totally won. I dont understand how you guys don't see this. It's obvious they won. They won. Do you get it? Won. They. Won. Gasol bad trade = not bad trade = won.

Oh...   . Now do you see it? Won!

On a serious note: Be a fan, by all means, but keep it sane. Joejam is the only other person remotely as obnoxious as you. Indy's a big homer too, but he's still enjoyable from time to time.

I guess this is the way to deal with loss.

1. first, you mourn.
2. Then, you accept.
3. Finally, you forget and move on. As time goes on, names, birthday dates, etc, it all fades away.

That's human. On the other hand, you may get totally delusional...

I concede one thing, though: Marc Gasol isn't half-way as bad as you think he is. I hope that counts for something...

I don't think he's bad at all, I saw a glimpse of him via Eurosport and he's pretty solid. None the less, the way Mafia tends to portray anyone remotely linked to Memphis, it makes the person look like they are reincarnations of Jesus.

That's all I'm trying to say, there's a certain line you don't cross as a "fan". You're just going too far and you lose all credibility. Keep it realistic.

But what do I know? Memphis won!! They gave Josh Smith an offersheet. I mean damn. You know you've won then. Josh Smith. Offer sheet. W00t.
