Shooting touch...

Postby ausar72 on Thu Nov 13, 2003 5:29 pm

Realy well done this year... I was trying to figure out why the shooting form was off. My player was doing that weird littler off balance lean on every shot. Turns out i was releasing the ball too early. If you haold it a little longer in the animation you will get the textbook jump shot.

NICE!!! :D

hmm, compared to last years version i find the players release the ball too late i.e. the shooting animation takes too long. i sometimes find that frustrating as the cpu always gets a chance to close out at a shooter and block or challenge the shot no matter how open your palyer was in the first place.

Good point! I hadn't tried what i learnewd in an actual game situation, but I can see that being an issue.

My troubles are close in. The layups, never go in. They are blocked or I get knocked around. It's going to be hard but I guess I can get used to it. Lot of playing to go.

On jump shots, I noticed that every player has a different timing for a perfect release. Try going to practice mode and shoot three's with Dirk Nowitzki for a couple of minutes. Once you get the hang of his release point & timing, select a different player. Say....... Ray Allen. You will notice a big difference on the release time of their jump shots.

Very true. I did the same thing for the kings.
I practiced with Peja and Bibi. I think it might have somethig to do with their heights and animation.

Pirate - try turning up the layup/dunk ratings for the user and cpu sliders to around "75" each, this fixed the problem for me with unguarded layup/dunks always missing.

Is it player specific? Like for example, Van Horn and McKie would both have very slow releases.

I'm not quite sure yet as I have not played w/ a lot of players yet but it looks like height seems to be a factor.

yea i know with guards u realease a little quicker than with forwards...when u are using a guy like dirk or lafrentz etc u gotta hold a little longer than with carter, allen, bryant etc

i think it also has sumthing to do with the jumping
i'm a pierce fan.. and when i play with him.. hes jumpers don't look very good compared to playin with 90''s all-star jordan where he gest up high and u can release it at max point .. and it feels smooth
pierce jumpers .. i tend to release it too late but with same timing

If you do the CPU shot control instead of user shot control you don't have to worry about this timing stuff do ya?

LOL alrite, well i always use CPU cos i want the players ratings to have the biggest impact. But das cool, depends on whether you want your ability or the players ability to be the main deal.

I could swear that different players have very different animations. Like J Kidd's release is as odd looking at is it is in real-life (well, I always thought it looked odd).
