Sounds like an interesting alternative to their Smackdown series. It'd be great if they could include retro versions of Undertaker and Shawn Michaels amongst the other legends. If they're going to include Jake "The Snake" Roberts and "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka, then they can include vintage Undertaker to recreate their Wrestlemania matches of the early 90s.

The simplified controls is an interesting approach, seemingly apt for a game that is so retro and built on nostalgia but it could be a bit frustrating at times given what we're using to doing in today's wrestling games. Still, it's caught my interest so I'll at least give a demo a look if one is released.

Andrew,

I think that guys like the Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin should be in as well as Undertaker. Shawn Michaels might make it as well. I hope that there will be a career mode or something like that.

I find it cool that IGN stated that Hogan walked out to "Real American." Maybe with the simplified controls they were trying to appeal to fans of the "No Mercy" engine back in the N64 days?

I like wrestling games as long as there's a good single player mode. I wonder what the match types will be like in the WWE Legends game.

Maybe even include some obscure legends like Coco B. Ware and Junkyard Dog. I do think that Brett Hart is a lock for WWE Legends, maybe even Owen Hart. But probably not Ultimate Warrior or Randy "Macho Man" Savage.

I probably will end up getting this game when it comes out next year.

Jimmy Snuka and Jake Roberts are most likely in. (Y)

I saw mention of the first fifteen Wrestlemanias being represented so it sounds like we will see some Attitude era guys. Savage and Warrior are pretty much guaranteed not to be in the game seeing as though they have heat with the WWE. Martha Hart probably won't want Owen's likeness to be included.

So I take it guys like Austin and the Rock being included in as Legends, then?

Quite likely, which is fair enough since going up to Wrestlemania XV caters to fans of two eras, arguably three if you count 1993-1997 somewhat of a transitional era.

The website mentions over 40 WWE Legends from the 80s and 90s. Obviously Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant will be amongst them but that's a large enough roster to include the likes of Bret Hart, Undertaker, HBK, The Rock and Stone Cold and still have a fair share of wrestlers from the 80s. Ted Dibiase is a name I'd throw out there as well.

Andrew,

Do you think that there will be a career mode of some sort or will it be just random matches?

Yeah you can almost confirm Rock, Stone Cold, Mankind, Bret Hart. I hope they have young HBK, like when he had Sherri as his manager. Ted Dibiase and Slaughter should be in. Along with Perfect, Rick Rude, Piper, Jake the Snake, Bulldog...all those guys have been legends before, so no reason why they wouldnt be in the game now.

I'd say that's what this is:

WRESTLEMANIA TOUR MODE - Participate in key matches from multiple WrestleMania events. Vintage WWE footage will set up matches, explain feuds and detail the rivalries behind them, situating players in the heart of each contest.

I'm guessing it'll play out much like Hall of Fame Mode in SDvRAW 2008 though we might not have to unlock as many people first or we'll do by playing through the matches in sequence.

Andrew,

Thanks, that pretty much answers my question. Sounds cool, but I don't know about having to play the matches in sequence, but that's only because I'm impatient.

I'm just guessing there. I assume the mode would have some kind of structure to it.

wtf, no warrior or macho? cant they just use ultimate player #99 and macho 99 man? i mean seriously those were my fav 2 wrestlers ever gonna seriously suck without them in it.

anyway, the game looks like one i will love. i hope they stick to the "older" wrestlers, i dont really want them to get into characters like the rock or stone cold, undertaker being the most current i want to see in game.

i hope to see jake the snake, superfly, honkey tonk man, brutas the barber, rick rude, you know guys from that era. would not mind seeing tag teams like demolition in the game either.

It's not just the names, it's the likenesses. Hopefully there'll be suitable CAW parts to make missing wrestlers, though it's never really the same even with a quality create mode and CAW guide.

As far as them not being in the game, it all comes down to bad blood. Ultimate Warrior burned his bridges with the WWF/WWE and I don't see that changing anytime soon, especially in light of the DVD they released a few years back. Supposedly McMahon has vowed never to work with Savage again though no reason has ever been given. The theories range from McMahon simply feeling betrayed when Savage jumped to WCW to Savage having had sex with an underrage Stephanie McMahon, though I think the latter is a bit out there since I imagine McMahon would have done something about it. In any case, we're probably not going to see them anytime soon.

I think you'll be out of luck on the second part as well since they're supposedly going all the way up to Wrestlemania 15, though they'll probably limit the more recent wrestlers to people like Undertaker, HBK, The Rock, Stone Cold and probably someone like Mick Foley. I reckon they'll still be plenty of old timers.

That still leaves the likes of Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Jake the Snake, Jimmy Snuka, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Ted Dibiase, Mr Perfect, Sgt. Slaughter, Ravishing Rick Rude, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Ricky Steamboat, The British Bulldog, Jim Duggan, Brutus Beefcake, Dusty Rhodes, Yokozuna, Bam Bam Bigelow, Doink the Clown, King Kong Bundy, Bob Backlund and The Iron Sheik as possibilities from the first fifteen Wrestlemanias. That's only 25 wrestlers so even if they were all included I'd expect some more of the older guys as well as a few more recent faces as well.

Here is an update thats been found. IMDB has a list of "archive footage" for the game including yokozuna, taker, hbk, haku, and more.

My only worries is it has Jim Ross listed as himself "voice". I really didnt want Jim Ross to be the commentator for this game.

Who else would they get though? Gorilla Monsoon is no longer with us, Jesse Ventura would be expensive and Bobby Heenan isn't in any shape to do it. That pretty much leaves Gene Okerlund who certainly wouldn't be a bad choice but if you can't get the true originals, you might as well use the best play-by-play guy in the business.
