...or at least I would hope not. Jao, this might make you feel a little better about the situation you used to have.
Shitty Roommate
Worth reading to the end, proceed with caution if you have a weak stomach.

Eh, see if that shit happened I would have reported him or w/e and had it taken care of. I couldn't really do much officially with my douche bag.
But still, holy shit (literally), that is just fucked up...

Good point. And yes, if there's a moral to that story it's to take care of problems before they escalate; assuming nothing is embellished, it's amazing he let things go that far.

If i were having a roommate that is like that id definitely just left the building and find another place to rent ..
Thu Jul 24, 2008 11:16 pm
Kris, that's right!

It seems a lot to put up with, and a lot of hassle as far as keeping your belongings secure just to live somewhere essentially rent free. He may have come out of it ahead with the money he was awarded but if I were him, I'd be wishing I'd either moved out or called the landlord when things first started going downhill.

horrifying and hilarious at the same time.
I'd probably would have moved out right away

This guy is a complete pussy for dealing with this shit for that long.
Talk about a pushover.
Fri Jul 25, 2008 2:58 am
That is one fucked up roommate.. I would have gone nuts staying with him that long..
The worst part about it is the dead cat.. perhaps he's trying to cook a steak.

How so? From the sounds of it, for a long time he didn't deal with it. He shut the other guy out and continued living there rent free and largely undisturbed aside from the odd phone call which he calmly dismissed each time and went about his business.

I think you're both grasping at the same thing. The guy didn't deal with it, but he put up with it. He should've done something about it after the first feces in the corner crap instead of put up with it for so long.
Fri Jul 25, 2008 2:57 pm
Yeah... that.
I would have shot a mothafucka.
Purchased a damn gun just for the occasion, hell... even gotten a concealed carry permit.
Then I would have shat on his face.
Fri Jul 25, 2008 6:44 pm
^and the body?..
damn, what would make a man pick up a dead cat and put it in the oven?.. yummy..

I do get that, but is that really cowardice? I mean, you could argue that packing his bags and leaving would have been a cowardly thing to do (then again, you could also argue it would have been the sane thing to do) and kicking him out wasn't an option since the other guy was subletting the place and his rich parents were paying for it. From the sounds of it, he put up with it for a little while and then once he barricaded off his own area, didn't really have to put up with all that much until the final confrontation.

I'm not sure if that's cowardly to do. If I end up getting stuck with a roommate who shits all over the place and deals drugs, I'd keep searching for another cheap place just because I'm sure there's a better place out there with a better roommate. I think it's a choice, not something to brave out.
Sat Jul 26, 2008 12:59 am
I wouldn't go that far either, in fact I'd suggest it would be the sensible thing to do. But staying isn't cowardly either, it doesn't sound like he was afraid of the guy. If his point was to prove the other guy would live like a pig if he were allowed, he certainly succeeded.
Sat Jul 26, 2008 5:11 am
Well, the term "pussy" has many meanings.
One doesn't have to be a coward to be a pussy. You can be a push-over, a loser, or just a tool.
Anyhow who is willing to live in those conditions, and bitches about them instead of leaving is a pussy.
Anyone who takes that shit from someone just because they get free room and board is a pussy.
Sat Jul 26, 2008 8:39 pm
I see where you're coming from but I still don't see the guy as being a pushover. He wanted to keep living there so he shut himself off from the roommate. Also, he wasn't bitching about it instead of leaving; he was recounting a tale from 3-4 years ago on SomethingAwful, presumably in a thread about bad roommate stories.
Sat Jul 26, 2008 10:19 pm
Fuck to the disgusting roommate. That's all I can say
In my opinion, the dead cat in the oven is the best part of the whole story
Sat Jul 26, 2008 10:38 pm
I agree Andrew. He doesn't sound like a push over, just a college kid who was willing to put up with almost everything to save on the rent.
I think the most sane though would have been to leave. If his roommate was using and selling drugs, there is no telling how he could have been implicated in it as well. I think it was clear that this guy was going off the deep end and frankly anything could have happened. I would have been afraid for my life. He might have barricaded the doors, but bullets can travel through walls.
Sat Jul 26, 2008 11:57 pm
No question, it wasn't a particularly sensible approach and he even admitted as such through the course of his story. I'm guessing he wouldn't be as willing to prove a point and see how far a roommate would descend into living in squalor if he found himself in the same situation today.
